Plug-in Proposal

So I didnt get any texts because I only offered to spot typos, not improve text?

No, it was issues with my e-mail.

I'll send them to you again right away.

------------------

I have approximately 60 mission texts finished- about 1/7 of the planned mission texts. The two files should have been correctly sent to the four people. If there are problems or questions, feel free to ask.

So there will be 420 mission texts? Insane, this is going to be one large plug! I just started to wonder what I got myself into volunteering...

Lots of missions? Yes. However, only about 70-80 of the main string missions can be played with one pilot (unless someone wants to cheat and mess around with mission bits). Each seperate string tells (or hopefully will tell) an integral part of the whole story.

If I have resources and time left over, I'll also put in some independent missions and side-strings to add to the general atmosphere.

Hopefully my volunteers won't get tired of reading. I've only begun to fully develop some of the sub-stories. I appreciate your feedback! (And if you have any problems w/this project, feel free to tell me.)

This plug sounds like it will be a blockbuster...I volunteer to beta-test. I could possibly review texts, as well.

If my plug-in turns out to tell a story that is even one-one hundredth as good as Martin Turner's Frozen Heart and Femme Fatale plug-ins, I will be overjoyed, ecstatic, and extremely happy. His mastery of prose and plot is matched by few, and his novel isn't bad either.

I need some help. (Normally, I'd look for this myself, but the search function is down.) I remember that there was some thread discussing what the EVO aliens looked like (physical description). If someone could provide me w/link to that thread, it would be greatly appreciated. If you could comment on this subject (your own opinions), it would be appreciated as well.

All the interest has been noted. I will post back soon.

------------------

Im going to camp until Saturday. Dont send me any more texts. 3 parts are already enormous, and it doesnt help that the mission order is confusing, because there seems to be so many ways to do a mission. 9AI (Choice), 7B (Fail)... ugh.

I have a hard time seeing such a Voinian/Igazdra alliance. One possible way to achieve your goal is to have a Voinian raiding party try and circumvent the UEdefenses by heading to the galactic north and then galactic east (wasn't there a mission in EVO in which something similar happened?) The battle between the Voinians and UE could be on the edge of Igazdra space. The premise would then be that the Igazdra recovered a damaged Voinian craft and reverse engineered it. In this way, the Igazdra get their hand on the Voinian weaponry/ship tech without trying to make an alliance seem plausible.

Just a thought.

General Cade Smart:

Don't worry about it- I'll cease sending the files to you. If you change your mind, feel free to tell me. (And you're right, I forgot to put in some explanations. I'm planning on taking out much of the branching in later missions anyways, so it shouldn't be as much of an issue as before).

seant:

I'm sorry, but I already have much of the story written out. The conditions and situation behind the alliance will be explained in the story. Your idea would have been a good one, though- maybe I can work it in somehow.

(You were talking about the 'board the disabled shuttle in Chorca and rescue the Voinian defector mission', right?)

I still need appearances data...please?

------------------

Work progresses rapidly. I have decided to give up 'branching' as a major feature, although there may still be some 'take this or that' mission type events.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know the exact number of systems, ships, outfits, or weapons used by the stock EVO scenario?

I don't want to disappoint anyone who doesn't have NOVA, but) if the engine isn't strong enough to handle what I want to put in, I may just develop it for Nova (of course, if there are interested people on this board who don't have Nova, I'll probably still first develop it for EVO).

Thanks for the complement, double_zero 😄

UE R&D;: You can continue sending files to me, I just need time to find all the typos/ other small errors (such as saying Mission BBS instead of Mission Computer). Because all the three files together are 48 pages printed according to Word, I need massive amount of time. Dont send me any files before I have announced finishing the previous. I looked at the first 6 missions because I was bored last day at camp, but no branches. Another question: do I E-Mail you the errors and announcements?

your idea for a plug-in sound great, ill be sure to get it, i would offer to beta test it but i have to be at my grandmas house to use it cause she's the only one in my family w/ a mac :frown:

anyway think about makeing the space mines legal again, as another weapon against well everyone. also think about making a defence pod launcher instead of rocket launcher cause those suckers are powerful (at least in my oppinion) and make sure a few UE worlds are captured

papanachos: I have the North Tip Renegades string in part for 'amoral' and 'immoral' but effective toys like the Space Mine. Hopefully people won't be disappointed...

General Cade Smart: You can e-mail the changes to me if you want. My address should be in profile, or somewhere in this topic. I'm working right now, so I probably won't be sending out another file for at least four or five days.

Thats OK. Probably we then can have personal conversation instead of just the typos. ;). Atleast I did this with Bomb. In addition to finding bugs in F-25, I had general chatter about it and even asked real life things- such as college. N.B: im going to my father again. This time for a week, because its summer. Send any files you have or replies to mails to: mercury@welho.com.

General Cade Smart:

That's good to know. Tell me what you think of my plugin so far when you send in what you have.

I just finished another set of 20 or so mission descriptions today, but I want to keep it longer in order to do revision and polishing (and to correct stupid mistakes). If you want to discuss, go ahead and try my e-mail when you've got time on your hands.

Will do. But that will be next week because I forgot to take the files I printed to my father. Unless you resend them, if they are that important to you. I will, but first when I mail you the typos. Like to mix the task with random questions about the plug. I have a the whole week (well, except Sunday), so times not the concern.

A quick update:

- While no coding has been done yet, I have officially decided to write this plugin with the focus on the capabilities of the EVN engine rather than the EVO engine. I trust that everyone interested at this point has EVN, am I right? If I am wrong, I may reconsider.

- It is still far too early to think about graphics, but I did anyways. After seeing Cold Fusion, I drool at the prospect of asking Captain Skyblade to make me graphics. However, it seems that he is quite busy at this time, and I will have no need of graphics for another two or three months at the very least, so I will hold off until the final stages.

- Feedback on the storyline would be greatly appreciated, for those reviewing mission texts. I don't want to write grammatically correct, descriptive, pretty briefings that have no plot value to them or are just plain stupid, so if you have any questions or discrepancy reports, please tell me before it is too late. If you would be so interested, I can procure for the editors a rough outline of the complete story. (From what I have heard so far, they're doing a fine job with their revisions, etc.)

- I have finished another block of 22 mission texts. After extensive revision and rewriting, I finally feel confident enough in those to send them out. I will do so in a day or two.

- And yes, I do fully plan on working on this until the end ;).

Please reply with any questions or comments.

Good to hear you're going to make it for EVN. I'm going to work on proofing the files you've sent me, now that I've got a bit of free time and my computer back. Expect them late tonight or tomorrow.

I got Karma-slapped for this: "Laughs Maniacally" in reference to a peecee problem...

I've sent more files to the people who volunteered for me a long time ago. I'm also working on ship, planet, and outfit descriptions, in addition to missions texts. Expect more on this subject soon.
