The classic EV plug-in Empire: War Without End has been converted to run in EVO as a stand alone plug-in. I uploaded it two or three days ago and it should be available from the add-ons area soon.
This plug-in is almost identical to the original except for a few bug fixes. The original was written by Tim Isles back in 1997 and spawned a sequnce of plugs loosley called "The Empire Trilogy". This plug-in is closely based on the original EV plot but with a little bit more planet domination along the way :).
At any rate, for those of you who haven't gone over to Nova yet this should provide some entertainment until you decide to get Nova.
------------------ Its amazing how "tsk, tsik, nik" can mean anything from "There's a bomb in the bus, get help!" to "I'm hungry, feed me" In case of ambiguity about anything I say - choose the nicest interpretation.
What bugs does it fix? I didnt know any bugs in the EV one except the patch listed on Tims website. As for planet domination... does this mean more planets change government, by doing kill defending ships then land with marines missions? And also, this is great news. I can now play War Without End (also called E1) with the added capablities of the EVO engine. The only bad thing is I guess Voinians will now be Terrans and Weave is UE. This means nigh impossible fights when taking down just one Voinian Frigate takes 40 SADs. Or Neutrons. And that instead of Rebels being almost equal to Confeds with less shields but more speed and still good armament, both now have severe weaknesses. The same ones UE and Voinians had.

The bugs were, in some cases, subtle - there were no fatal bugs that were fixed. For example, in some cases when you complete a mission it changes the system you are in. This leads to strange effects when you take off from the planet. I made changes to ensure this didn't happen. Also, there is a string of Mafia missions that it was impossible to get in the original plug-in because a certain mission bit was never set. I've changed it so that the "Mafia string" is now available. There were other assorted changes that I can't remember at the moment because I'm away from my home computer - I can let you know what they were if you are really interested.
There is no more domination than in the original plug-in - it's just that the original has a lot of domination compared to the base EV storyline. That comment was a little summary of how the E1 story compares with the EV base scenario.
(Edited to clarify the point about domination)

The plug-in is now available from the EVO plug-ins download page.
Let me know what you think.

I am actually playing Empire now, and am enjoying the plug and revisiting EV. I have only found one bug...when I accept a Bounty mission to eliminate a Large Pirate Fleet, the mission never ends and I never get paid. This only happens from Levo and Tabletop. The same mission from other planets are ok. PS, I have already played Nova, love the game, but once you chose an alliance, the trading is limited because everyone else hates you.

I keep trying to download it, but it gets to 4,384 KB, then quits. No matter what I do, I have an incomplete download. What can I do?

Maybe you just don't have enough space on your hard drive. Try turning off any active applications you have running, or just empty your trash. This will free up some space. Do you need more RAM? Do you have a time-out lmit on your internet provider? Hope this works for you....
------------------ Sorry, I don't do Windows.
If it still doesn't work, get a friend, or somebody from the board, to download it, and send it to you. I've had similar problems with downloads, and that helped me.
I got it downloaded, but when I put it in (with new pilot), I find all the system names are just long strings of ascii characters (I think they're ascii characters). The only other plugin is lightning jump.
Which kind of ASCII strings? Could you post exerpts? Technically, it's probably that the end of the file has been corrupted.

It's just my guess that the characters are ASCII. The strings are made up of boxes, lines, etc. I wish I could take a pic/copy-paste, but as I'm on an emulated PC, I have no way (or no way that I know of). I've only seen this one other time, and that was when I was trying to play a particular EV plugin (forget which one), but it was exactly the same.
Just tried to look at the plugs using Res-Edit. Everything in "Empire 2.2" (descs, spobs, systs...) are made up of those long strings of characters. The other plug is fine. I dunno what I can do, but if someone can somehow send me a correct copy of the plug, I would be most grateful.
My theory is that the part of the resource map that stores the resource names, which is at the end of the file, has been corrupted, but this part is not necessary for the plug to be considered valid, so it loads just fine. Try redownloading.
I've been on holidays so didn't see this thread until now.
Is the file on the download board OK or do I need to upload a new one?

Skippy, I havn't had any problems except for the few missions mentioned above. I emailed CaptAceHarddrive an original DL'd Plug from the Addons page, but he still had problems. Note: I am using a Mac and OSX, and I believe Capt was using an emulator. Maybe you could directly send him an original. His email is on the other post concerning Empire.
Jill
PS...I LOVE the plug.
