Okay everyone, tell me about your closest brush with death and describe your ship or post it from the pilotlog if you still have it available.
I just got the Observe Voinian Research Base Mission, jumped into the system in my Cresant Warship with five Turncoat escorts, turned around and afterburned away. Once I had some elbow room, I turned again and destroyed the Voinian Interceptors and Heavy Fighters. I headed off into space to let my shields recharge then went after the four Frigates and two Cruisers one at a time, pausing occasionally to let my shields recharge, trying to disable rather than destroy them so that there wouldn't be any other ships entering the system. So now it was just me and my escorts against the Dreadnaught. I straifed a couple times until it was out of Missles, got just out of range and matched it's speed. I used up all my Needle Missles on it's shields then gave the order to attack and charged. The battle was furious and seemed to take forever... Then suddenly My escorts' fighters were gone and my escorts were all disabled, but amazingly had survived. I was out of shields except for the tiniest sliver of green in the status bar. My main concern was keeping my escorts alive, so I took one last run past the Dreadnaught and headed away from them. It followed me to a safe distance and by this time my shields were up just enough to take one or two hits, so I straifed by again. I waited a few seconds to let my shields charge up enough to take another hit and did it again. I started to wonder how long this would take. I knew I should just let my shields charge fully, but what if it's shields start to recharge also? It took most of my Needle Missles to get through to it's armor. I decided to press the attack, but slow enough to keep my shields up. Three passes... four passes... What? It's disabled? Already? That was weak! I repaired my escorts, destroyed the Dreadnaught (out of curiousity I stayed in the screen as it blew up to watch and almost died for it) destroyed the other ships in the system and headed home. Now I know what it takes and I'm ready to destroy it again for the next mission, but I think I might want some more ammo this time...

I did it all alone in an unupgraded UE destroyer, fresh out of the shipyard. Nothing to brag about at all. The Dreadnought sucks in comparison to the EVC Alien Cruiser.
Probably my closest brush with death was when I was trying to become a Renegade and I was flying a Krait in the Hatuli system. The only problem being that Renegades still attack you. I was enjoying myself plundering Helians when thos pirates arrived. I tried to fight them, took three needle missiles and decided that descretion was the the better part of valor. I monty pythoned three Kraits and my ship took about as much fire as a Krait can take. I was then forced to use all my piloting skills to evade the needle missiles coming toward me from the turncoats and helians. Evenually a UE fleet jumped in and saved me. only as I was flying towards Thehir to land did I notice that the status bar read Armor and it was blank. I gave up flying Kraits after that. I think I sold it for a shuttlecraft at the nearest shipyard.

I think Captain Phillips has me beat here, but I once destroyed that Dreadnought during the crew of one challenge. I was flying around in my brand new Krait, and went ahead to do the mission. I didn't drop to Armor or anything, but I remember that on one of my quick attacks against the Dreadnought, it fired it's Salvo Rockets. I was lucky enough to see the rockets pass my ship without a scratch.
------------------ Insanity has its advantages "I- I Swear Officer.. The Dwarf was on fire when I got here!" Sorry -REDCHIGH-, It just fit so well.
Hmm, I remember one time when I was using a UE carrier with upgraded engines, I was going in a suicidal run with the dreadnaught, after fighting off all the interceptor, I match the speed with the Voinian mines I was deploying so they would detonate simultaneously when it hit its target, however that was when I didn't know that certain weapons could hurt the players using it.
BOOOMMM, my shields and almost all of my armor got blown away, and if that wasn't enough, the dreadnaught being disabled made the destroyers continue to fire missiles at it, and being that my ship was super slow in acceleration, I practically dodged one of the strayed rockets that could of finished me off.

Yeah I remember when I tried to use those mines myself. I remember blowing up. So I guess it wasn't a close call...Although defense pods are really nice, all the benefits of a mine without accidentally destroying yourself. Just out of curiosity, has anyone gotten those mines to work well for them. I seem to remember them exploding at irregular intervals.
------------------ Why are there no maroon ships?
Flying backwards, releasing, and hitting the afterburner usually did the trick it for me. By the way, long time no see
The Dreadnought isn't hard, it's 15000 damage until disabled (I did the math). You can get that from 18 Vonian Mines, 200 or so Heavy Rockets, or a whole lotta luck. A good tactic is to get the "Destroy Vonian Arms Convoy" and 'Destroy Vonian Supply Convoy" missions at the same time. This gives you 7 extra Cruisers. Add those to the 4 Cruisers you get for the Dreadnought alone, and 11 Cruisers is a really strong force. Let the Cruisers engage the Dreadnought and go after the Convoys. Once it's just you and it, Monty Python it or do attack runs with guns blazin'.
This actually does work; I killed it on my first (serious) try :D.

Flying backwards is the trick, but they get you in trouble with the UE later on...
------------------ Sorry, I don't do Windows.
Really? I mean, they're only illegal, but... How do they get you in trouble, anyways?

Buy some, and later you find out. It's temporary, unless...

A slick mission bit trick. Next time you visit a UE bar you will be fined a ton of money. After that I believe that you can use them without trouble though. But you've already lost a few hundred k.

I love Frigates, as is easily seen:(url="http://"http://www.dabie.k-ow.net/~glasskids/EV_Frigates_page.html")EV Frigates(/url).
Firstly, it has only been implemented in the 1.0.2 update, beforehand buying outfits could not set mission bits; therefore, if you havn't updated yet (which I advise you to do so), you won't see that.
Second, if you happen to buy mines again (not use them, buy them) after the fine mission, it will appear again.

It doesn't necessarily fine you a lot, just a percentage. So, if you have 2 credits, they probbly wont fine you anything. (but if you have 100 million, you are in a world of hurt)

I destroyed it in a souped up Arada. With phase weapons. Took me a good two hours...
Phase weapons are teh suck against armor.

It says that you are fined 50% of your liquid assets. So if you had 2 credits, you would be left with one. Or 100m, -> 50m .
I always thought that reducing your mon by a percentage was impossible with the engine. Maybe I need to check again.
I got you all beat. I took on the dreadnaught as well as the half a dozen frigates and cruisers in my Azdara on the mission where you're just supposed to observe it, and I didn't have any escorts.
By the way Captain Philips, unless you managed to squeeze some Dospect Armor into your krait, your story can't possible be true because kraits have no armor. You'd be dead if you ever saw your status bar say armor.

Many people consider the Azdara to be one of the best ships, and uses it throughout the EVO universe. I'm quite confident that loads of people have pulled that one of,f as well as you.
That Guy, maybe my memory has failed me once again, but Dospect Armor is 40 tons or so. Even though I don't know the exact stats, A Krait probably can't carry 40 tons.
I'm horribly wrong, aren't I?
Originally posted by That Guy: By the way Captain Philips, unless you managed to squeeze some Dospect Armor into your krait, your story can't possible be true because kraits have no armor. You'd be dead if you ever saw your status bar say armor.
you'd be wrong. I was using a normal krait and no armor. When a ships shields go down it automaticly move to armor. Since the krait has none of that it goes boom. However in the player ship if you take the exact number of hits to down shields you move to a full bar of armor, or in the krait's case, an empty bar of armor, it is fully possible, I've seen the empty armor bar twice. That time, and once more where I was destroyed instantly after it appeared. Belive me, unlike some I'm not one to lie about what I've done.
Killer squirrel:it is not at all hard to take on a ton of heavy voinian ships in an azdara, it's speed and shield recharge are unmatched and you can easily take down everybody before they can even touch you. I think that using an azdara is cheating, I'd much rather be able to use the Adzgari Warship.
