I've just purchased a shiny-new freight courier and I'm wondering how to outfit it best. I'm usually more suited to ships like the Azdara and aradas, and am not that used to the freight courier (and I'm keeping it, so don't tell me to get a better ship :p). Right now I'm doing the UE string, so crecent weapons aren't all too useful.

Well, neutron weaponry is the best on armor, but if you don't want that, get phase weaponry. According to Hellfire's Outfit Guide, blaze weaponry and phase weaponry actually do the same amount of damage to armor, and phase weaponry is a LOT more accurate.
I also find Pursuit missiles helpful against voinians. One will go through all those asteroids (whereas hunter missiles won't) and take a pesky heavy fighter to within a centimeter of its life (a few shots with a phase cannon will then disable it) and a freight-courier is a slow ship..which also means you should get the engine upgrades from Mira (they are other places, too, but not many I think).

An afterburner helps avoiding the turreted rockets, but if you are to use one, buy a ramscoop too. If you don't fear of losing them after each battle, you might be interested by a Krait bay and Kraits, they do not perform that bad against Voinians (spelling? checked)... that is, before they get blasted by a rocket...

Hrm, I can only say, that out of personal experience, an Arada for example, kills any Voinian unit , way faster with blaze cannons/turrets than anything else, and I believe that most people will agree with me on that
