I seem to be getting nowhere with this mission. I have killed the attacking fleet (with voinian help) twice now (aborting once and trying again), and still the mission doesn't seem to be completed. Interestingly, the ships were Miranu ships not Zachit ships...
A note said it was ok to fail this mission...is that what I have to do? How do I do that? I tried landing again before killing all the ships one time. Nothing happened.

Sometimes what happens is that if you have a bunch of escorts and those escorts have fighters and they launch into battle the system fills up and not all of the mission ships come in the first time, and after that EVO tends to get a bit screwy.
What I meant by it was ok to fail the mission is probably one of two things- either the failbit sets the same as the complete bit or you don't have to destroy the ships at all- just observe them. This way, it gives the impression of the player "giving his best shot" and moving forward even if you didn't destroy every last vessel. Of course, the system only works when the player doesn't know about it, which you now do.
