In EV, it was decidedly the Alien string... but what about EVO???

There are three major objectives (push back the Voinian empire, explore the nebulae, and destablise the Strand War.) You are told every time you complete a major objective, and when your pilot has completed all three then you have, in effect, 'beaten' EVO.

That's always the problem I had with EVO. It should have been a "Destabilize the UE-Voinian war" objective, not just a "Push back the Voinian Empire" one. It really annoys me to just have it sort of end, with no real conclusion.
On the other hand, that's what ROTV is for.
