If you have about 130,000 credits, head north into Miranu space, and buy an Arada. They're good ships for beginners.
------------------ Maniak hacks like crazy!
Shuttle-Scoutship-Helian-Miranu Courier-Arada-Lazira. The arada is one of the best mid-level ships. Then theres a bunch of cresent ships that are really good but its been years since i played EVO. hope that helps
Edit: heh, all the ship names are coming back now. ------------------ " Life is full of surprises, but never when you need one. "

You start in a Shuttle, so it's a no brainer. Get the Steller Corp missions if you can. They're on the far east side of UE space. The system and planet name evades me, but it's in the same system as Crocket. You then get a bunch of Credits doing those(they pay pretty well) and buy a Transporter. You find one of the several trade routes around UE space. You can look around to get them spelled out, but it's more fun if you find them. Beyond that, you have 2 choices. Stock Freighter or Freight-Courier. If you're trading a lot, get the normal freighter, it has the largest Human cargo hold. If you're venturing into dangerous space though, you want a Freight Courier. They cost about a million though, so you may have to save for a while. Though if you can get a trading fleet going, it's easy. After that, get roughly 12 Million Credits and head up to Miranu space and get a Crecent Warship with ALL the Miranu speed and defense upgrades. Get them now, because if you follow the rest of this, you annoy whatever of the galaxy you don't help take over. You then get a Deadly Combat rating, go to the bar on Pax in the Dogover system, and take any missions offered to you. Just follow the story line, and after you destroy a planet, download the most recent version of ROTV on the plug ins page and play through it.
Have fun!

Eh, Arada costs 1000000, not 100000.

That is for Crescent Warship, not an Arada.

No, Arada's are definitely 1,000,000. Crescent Warships are 9,000,000.

I usually go Shuttle-Scoutship-Arada-Crescent Warship and then finish up with whatever ship I am aiming for, like an Igazra, Voinian Cruiser, Zidara, etc. The Stellar Corp missions Lonevoininan mentioned are at New Chicago (fires up EVO, double checks, yup, it's) in the Thoso system. The UE missions start with a fairly low combat rating, and I usually do a few in my scoutship, but don't do any if you want to join the Voinians. (Pax in the Dogover system, like Lonevoinian said)
As soon as I get the scoutship, I usually put a fuel scoop on it (yes I am paranoid) and head north and land on Mira in the Mirava system, and do the diplomatic missions there, which eventually lead to getting better, higher paying missions throughout the Crescent. I get my Arada as soon as possible.
Once you have a Noteworthy combat rating you can pick sides in the strand war. If you want to join the Adzgari(my favorite) go to South Tip Station in the Hrekka system. The Zidagar missions begin at Pozdag-5 in the Pozdag system, and the Igadzra missions at Kitrack in the Kitrack system.
Those are pretty well the main strings, though there are several others.
On Mira there are always good outfits and pretty well every Crescent ship, save those used by the Strands. You will be able to buy special ships and tech from each government, but only after you complete their missions strings. Unless you are extremely meticulous and know exactly which order to do your missions in, or you use a plug, you won't be able to do all the strand missions with the same pilot.
Wow that was a lot. Hope it's not too much.

Ayup. If an Arada went for 130,000, it'd easily be labeled a cheat craft. It's already a good bargain for the 1.00mil+ you put into it.

Definitely. It wouldnt cost much more than a Scoutship, and why get a Scoutship at all if you could just get a Arada after you found Miranu? I know Aradas good sides: its fast and expandable. The expandablity makes it useful for multiple purposes. But I havent flown it too much. I dont like how its light shields and weapons force me to use it as a fighter, needing to do tactics, instead of just sitting there and killing from standoff like warships.
------------------ I am eager to try to answer mission questions
Personally, I CAN do tactics, I just think it's more fun to get rid of the Rockets and Rocket turrets on a Voinian Cruiser, replace them with Neutron Turrets, and get all the protection upgrades I can, and just sit next to 2 UE Cruisers, and kill them both.

Hey! I have done the same too. But I havent killed UE Cruisers, I am afraid they are too powerful. I have killed only UE Carriers. Does sit next mean that you fire your turrets from maximum range? Or that you literally are at short range? And you need to run for killing the fighters, they are a pain.
Hmm... You two ever try making a Voinian Zidara?
Zidara + Bronev + Weapons = Best Ship in the Crescent that can chase down most fighters. If it only had more space for expansion...

Interesting side note- at one time I was throwing around the idea of having a silver pimped out Zidara be a secret weapon the Voinians were developing in secret.. They were going to need awesome Crescent worthy warships for their invasion, so they turned to the most practical ship they could find.. There is actually a hint about it in ROTV 2 but I doubt anyone picked up on it..
And yeah, the Zidagar were gonna be the bad guys in ROTV 3.
