Well it seems I need your opinion on this one.
When the Dreadnought is made availible, you can't buy it straight away. It's priced at 30 million credits
When you do buy it though, not only can no ship in the game beat you, the crap weaponary in the Crescent makes it doubly impossible to die. The game is waaaay too easy. So, what would you prefer to remedy matters:
- Buff up the price to 40 or 50 million - Make the Dreadnought weaker - Put something in the read me to warn that the game is piss easy when you fly a dreadnought
And if nobody answers this question I really will just chuck the thing in the bin

Perhaps there are too many bigoted Voinians for acceptance of a human general to ever be complete. Even after the end of your storyline, the League of Voinian Purity (or something) keeps attacking the player. The continuing successes of the player keep goading jealous Voinian captains (including dreadnaught captains) to switch allegiance to the League.... The game effect is one or more eternally repeating "ambush" missions that launch very strong fleets against the player with a pretty high frequency.
Another option is to let Crescent engineers (Emalgha exiles?) come up with ship or weapon variants that can handle the dreadnaught. If their hard-to-target fast fighters had a way to get through armor quickly, and attacked in large numbers....

It wasn't that it disrupted or inconvenienced anyone, it's just rather poor board ettiquite in my opinion.
My comment about how it wasn't on the bottom for everyone was only to let you know that what you may see as an out-of-sight topic isn't quite the same for everyone. This is the second time in a short period of time that you've had something happen that had to do with this (the other was on the Just Games board, where you thought there were hardly any posts, even though there were plenty).
Originally posted by pistgavin: Questions, comments, enthusiasm, ackknowledgement? I was well put off by the lack of anyhing in this post and I've actually stopped work for a while because of it. Sheesh, you shouldn't be willing to give up just because of an (apparent) lack of interest. As the rest of this thread has shown, there is indeed some interest in your plug. To cancel it just because people aren't rushing to your topic (that isn't named about your plugin at all; to the average passerby, it's about a logo) would suck.
Originally posted by pistgavin: As for 'detracting my progress', it takes, what, 5 minutes or so to post a topic? Since I'm in the internet cafe anyway I might as well, no?
I was talking about in general, not this specific instance. I've seen plenty of plugins that had more work done on their promotion than their creation, and as a result, died.
Originally posted by pistgavin: You are disregarding a universe which is three times the size of EV, with a radically different storyline and (in my opinion) a far more open layout because of one annoying detail? If it matters so much just make a fixer plug-in, or I can incorperate one in my plug if it bothers you so much. In EV, the only possibility for mission-only packs is Confed-Rebel, UGE, ConEx, Pirate or Mercenary (yawn). In EVO there are hundreds of untried opportunities and a flexible layout, whereas everything that can be done in EV has been done.
I still stand by my opinion that the EVO plugin development community isn't nearly what it is for EVN or EV.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound bitchy, but "pistgavin" isn't familiar to me at all.

I didn't say it hurt the board, I was just asking you not to do it in the future since it doesn't make any sense to do so. There had been a whole 1 day since your last post; since it's a semi-dead board, you don't need to bump it. Case closed, as far as I'm concerned.
As far as the second comment, there's absolutely no way I can respond to that without sounding like a jerk. Oh well.

No. Raising the price to 40 or 50 million is quite enough. I dont want any repeating fleet attacks that happen often too, or any super-ship or weapon that can destroy it quickly. Look, Reign of the UE had a Dreadnought too. It was also so strong plying become no challenge. It was called almost a cheat by somebody. Yet there was no attacks by UE Cruiser fleets. The Voinians never used the Neutron Beam against the player. It was a superweapon that the player got halfway in the plug. It was only used by the Invincinaught, but that was a special ship for a special mission. Like the Dreadnought itself is in EVO. There was a weaker version of the UE Dreadnought, but it was a separate plug.
Yet no one else's, you notice. You were the only one to object, and if it's a semi-dead board anyway what does it matter?
I never change the type of topic-viewing options, it stays at default the whole time. Maybe I'm paranoid that the topic will be lost - either way I don't think it was your business to tell me, even as moderator. I know how to behave here, thank-you-very-much , and I'd rather if you saved the lectures in future.
Lack of interest is a perfectly good reason to give up. If no one wants to play the plugs I put so much effort into, then they won't. I was proved wrong, and in fact the interest has surged me onto making a new string of missions. But if no one had replied the plug would be for my amusement only. As it is, I could release the plug-in at any time: 73 missions is enough for any scenario, but I want to do it until I totally burn out so you all get the best I can give.
Why talk about in general? This thread is about my creations, stick to the subject at hand if you talk to me - I don't care about what other people failed to do. I know I will not fail this, because, like I said, it's releasable now. If I get fed up and can't go on I'll just stick it in the add-ons page as it is - it's already a confirmed release.
Perhaps, but this could be for many reasons - graphics, style, scenario - people never liked EVO for some reason, but to me it has the most scope and potential of all three.
As anyone who's been on the EV B&B; for more than two years can tell you that I've joined with several names, which I have stuck with more months then dumped. Starting with Bad Temper (unregistered) to Gav to Gavin to Gavin-Hardy ect ect.... pitgavin is my latest and final name.
Yes, case closed. Since you've said practically nothing about the plug-in itself, just plug making 'in general', I would rather if you didn't reply because, like you said, I could be spending the time on my plug rather then replying to this (quite frankly) pointless debate.
Very true.
Well I have come up with a way to remedy matters. Once the player becomes a Voinian Officer, they are paid gross amounts of money for whatever they do. I like the player to feel what it would be like being in the higher classes of the Voinian military - valued. They are showered with money and so buffing up the price would do little, although I may do it by about 5mil.
Instead I will put a note in the read me, and even though about 15-20 missions pass that are piss-easy in the dreadnought, I will start to harden the Crescent defences. The Zidagar Warship, for instance, as well as more powerful anti-shield weaponary, new weapons even, less speed and more firepower ect.
This will also give the feeling of things getting harder as they go along.
Is this a decent comprimise?
Yep!
Originally posted by pistgavin: Yet no one else's, you notice. You were the only one to object, and if it's a semi-dead board anyway what does it matter?
I'm the only one to object because I'm the only one that has posted who is in a position to say "please don't do that." I could get the two other moderators on this board to weigh in with their opinions, if you would like.
And "if it's a semi-dead board anyway," why bother bumping it?
Originally posted by pistgavin: I never change the type of topic-viewing options, it stays at default the whole time. Maybe I'm paranoid that the topic will be lost
I'm not saying you have to change your default, I'm just saying don't post if you have nothing to say. If you'll notice, you're not the only person that I've told that to, so don't think that it was anything personal.
Originally posted by pistgavin: either way I don't think it was your business to tell me, even as moderator.
If you have a problem with my moderating, I suggest you bring it up with me via email. However, regardless of whether you think it is my business or not to tell you, it is. End of story.

I, likewise, don't care about your opinion on it; I was merely stating a truth. Take it or leave it, it makes no difference to me.

shrug I'll just have to take your word that you've been around for a while.

I make off-topic posts when I see the need to do so as a moderator. I did, and I will continue to do so again if the need arises. This behavior is the same for all of the moderators; if you don't like it, sorry, but those are the rules.

Ditto again.
Been here since late 1998 and still going.
End of discussion.
Now, onto things that actually matter. The Voinians have thus far crushed the Miranu, taken over Pozdag-3 and so begin the long, slow onslaught through Strand space all the way to galactic domination.
I will probably stop Part I of the plug when they reach Zidagar. So, a few more days or so of production and then we only have the problemette of uploading. But, going well, so get those trigger fingers tuned up.
