Features needed in EVO

I know EVO 1.0.2 is coming out someday, but there is one desperately needed feature that I think has been overlooked: Backwards target cycling. The tab key only cycles targets foward, and it's really annoying if you accidentally press it while your on target and have to press it 30 times to get back to your original target.

I'm waiting for the day when "this side up" arrows appear on grocery bags.

Good point. I find this a very annoying fact when I'm in a big battle such trying to destroy the Dreadnought and I reach over to pause and think or change my second weapon and hit the change target. Really annoying. This is something to be considered.

I agree. I would also like to see a more interactive heads up display. You now the part were it shows the enemy ship in the green with a simple diagram. I also think that the diagram of the enemy ship should be like a targeting computer allowing you to hit the engines to disable it or something, or hit the cockpit to take out navigation. And maybe a axillary auxiliary power screen were you can cut and divert power to diferent rigions of the ship.

------------------

That's getting a little two complicated. One of EV and EVO's best characteristics is their simplicity of play.

If you say so, but I like the realistic since of it.......

Heh - you CAN do that. Read the docs. I'm SURE it was in EV, almost positive it was in EVO..

As for 1.0.2 ; dont hold your breath. According to A.W. on IRC, he hasn't heard from Matt in over 3 months.

Is it possible that he has a life like CS does ?

It should be option (or alt) (whatever your target cycling key is).

I agree. It gets frustrating when you're cycling through, trying to get one ship out of 32, and you pass it. You cycle through again, and - there it is - you passed it by. By about this time I'm usually dead. 😛

Oh, oh, I thought he meant with targeting ships. At the time I was racing ideas through my mind of haveing to ships act like one, etc..

Another thing evo needs is a way to rescue disabled ships or their crew. also, the white flash (when you jump) gets to me after a while.

------------------

You can rescue disabled ships by boarding them in the same way that you would board any disabled ship. This includes picking up Carried Ships.

If you're a developer, you can write missions which enable you to rescue crew by making 'crew' the item that you retrieve from a rescued ship.

The possibilities are endless once you start thinking about them.

By the way, I'm all in favour of new features that enable plug writers to make things more difficult for the player. Kind of like the new features in Tomb Raider IV -- they all look like they make things easier. In fact they are there to give the player more difficult moves and choices.

That's the way we like 'em.

Omega X, hey man, there is nothing realistic about EVO, let me throw out a few things that are wrong... the stars actually move, the game is 2D, the ships don't collide, weapons make sounds, uh yea well you get the picture, i doubt there would be barely any changes in a 0.0.1 change anyway...

------------------

Matt said he was adding "Marines" as an outfit, and making better AI fighting... thus the better the combat rating, the smarter your foes get....

Also, it fixes that beam bug as well as a few other things....

Unix for business
Linux for development
BeOS for media
Mac OS for productivity
Windows for solitaire

Hypah,
Yes, you are sorta right, but I still would like it to be a little more realistic. The stars do actually move in space, just really, really slowly. And you can hear things in space that are directly conected to your supply of oxigen, like the explosion of a retro rocket as it leaves the hanger bay doors, it send vibrations wihch then result in the sound of an explossion. Anyway the rest is true, but I like the technical stuff a lot. Do you watch the Sci-Fi chanel???..........

------------------

I would definately agree about backword targeting..
couple more things I would love to have:
-more quicktime capabilties..I wanna use em in more places than just mission boxes
-the ability to go back in time..

-IE

------------------

What I want to see is some sort of quantitative measurement so that I can compare weapons. Some sort of common unit of destructivness would allow you to determine which weapons are better than others. Eg. Is a phase cannon more or less powerful than a vonian canon? I don't know and I don't know how to find out.

There is a fantasic resource along these lines for EV Nova at:
(url="http://"http://www.evula.com/survival_guide/")http://www.evula.com/survival_guide/(/url)

...but it only covers EV Nova (and to a lesser extent EV). There is no info on EVO.

BTW, if anyone knows how/where I can find out the relative powrs of different weapons (I guess it must be possible) please post and let me know.
