Hey, it was just an idea that I would have done if I had made a plug-in concerning the Voinians vs. the Crescent. I don't even think it's a very good idea, Bomb's idea was better. However , I did not intend for the idea to be some kind of EVN ripoff. I wasn't even thinking about EVN when I wrote that. I simply thought it would be interesting if the Azdgari managed to sort of "mind-control" what was left of the other strands to use against the Voinians.
And anyway, the Vell-Os were enslaved because of something having to do with their nanoprobes which protected them. My idea used a device which directly tapped into the synaptic functions of the brain, telling it to do whatever the "master" wanted it to do. So there.

Wow.. I'm not sure how a topic's subject went from Martin Turner to zombies eating brains and why.

Because you mentioned ROTVIII, and others wanted to make a discssion of its politics. Then Captain Carnatour mentioned Azdgari could make Igazra and Adzgari zombies, their slaves, like Vell-os in Nova. Yes, sometimes this message board is not better than others in staying on topic.

You said special device, so thats little like Nova. But if it isnt, whatever.

Thanks. I'm up to speed.
Anybody tracked down Martin Turner yet..?

No. I dont even know ways to find him online. And no need to thank, with they making things as messy as this, you need a explanation

I'm still curious as to whether or not he's ever going to make Flight of the Eagle for EVN.. Or convert FH and FF..
I would rather see a threequel than a conversion of the 2... After all, the way the plugs are is perfect.. Converting them would be too much work + all the graphics had to be enhanced to make it look cool in EVN.. Wait a sec.. if the threequel is based on the old universe then all the graphics need to be imported anyway... DOH! Nevermind! I confuse myself sometimes.

Whats Flight of the Eagle? Never heard of it.

Flight of the Eagle was the third planned plug-in in Martin's series. Last I'd heard he was planning to make it for EVN- but real life matters (something to with politics, if I recall) have kept him busy for the past year or two.

Haha.. join the club.
I agree with you on the issue of conversion versus something new.. I'd tossed around the idea of converting some of my plug-ins to EVN- but I decided they were better as they were, and that my time would be better spent working on something entirely new- and from the early looks of it- totally kickass.
Okay, about ROTVIII, no one seems to be taking race personalities at all seriously.
Why would the Strands ally? After what, 5000 years of war? Can you imagine, after centuries of blood rivalry, Israel and Palestine allying if they were both threatened by, say, the Soviets? I don't think so. They'd fight it out as well as fighting eachother.
Also, the Voinians... they don't seem very crafty to me. Cunning doesn't seem to be a big Voinian trait, they seem to just send as many big ships as they can to a system then crush it with sheer weight in numbers. Okay, so Bomb did make them different in the first two, but for realism you have to consider these points, and justify their radical changes.
The Azdgari. Why does no one understand them? They're more like a pirate empire than a race. I remember a topic years ago, about who was the best race in the EVO galaxy, and it came out that Azdgari were the best and would take it all over. But really, they have no interest in conquest. They enjoy raids and minor skirmishes, constant mini battles. They don't want to take over any planets because they are a nomad race. Battle fleet? To me, the entire Azdgari 'navy' if that's what you can call it, seems to consist of little regiments of Azdara fighters or Azdgari warships. They don't really have a 'fleet' to speak of.
And if there had to be a Strand alliance, I think the Igadzra are the least likely of all to make an alliance with anyone , let alone one of their most hated enemies. Think traits, right? They're hostile and paranoid, just for you to join them you have to do all crazy things like transporting eels ect.

I agree, but I'd think that facing an unstoppable enemy they might reconsider..

Peter Cartwright once said he saw the Voinians as stuffy bureaucrats more than anything else. I wish I had read that before I wrote the ROTV series because it's an interesting trait and certainly would have been cool to explore. Still, it's unfortunate that I had to humanize the Voinians a bit, but I originally wrote the plug-ins very coldly- along the vein of the game's missions, then realized it was really very alienating for the player and it didn't make the missions very fun. So I had to make the Voinians trust the human a bit more than in the game, and therefore, allow the player a bit more into their world.

That's an interesting assessment, and it certainly goes against everything the Voinians seem to be about (lining up and socking away with rockets)- which is primarily why I thought it'd be interesting to explore an alliance between them. The battlefleet references are certainly right- there doesn't seem to be very much of a chain of command among the Adzgari. But then again, galactic war changes things. Perhaps a call to arms..

Another excellent point. Everyone tends to glump the Igadzra and the Voinians into one "hostile weirdos" category. While they undoubtedly share similarities- it is this very fact that makes it virtually impossible for them to ever ally with one another. But then again, the Zidagar are pretty much the choir boys of the group, so they wouldn't ally with the Voinians. And because the Voinians can't go it alone in the Crescent, for the sake of discussion, someone's got to help them.
** Bloody hell, I'm a proper party pooper aren't I? It's ONLY A GAME, GAVIN, JUST A GAME. (I said)
Nothing wrong with a little healthy logic in a discussion of illogical races..
I wish I had the time to do ROTV III- it'd be one damn fascinating plug-in. Up until now the Voinians have been conquering their neighborhood (and a bit beyond), but what happens when they get into the depths of the Crescent and it's long history of war..? Man, would they ever be in over their heads..

Bomb; if you want to, I would be quite willing to help you create ROTV III. I have a bit of plug-in making experience myself, and I enjoy writing quite a bit. And anyway, I would find it quite gratifying to work with such a great plug-in developer as you. : ) (and yes, I was serious about that)
To Captain, that is good news, because the missions has been written down, but no graphics or programming has been done. F-25 V2.1 is being beta tested right now as we speak.

Hey, thanks bro, much appreciated. As much as I'd like to make ROTV III- I just don't have the time to. I've already committed myself to a project for EVN- something I just can't pass up. I finished F-25 v.2.0.1 with the intention of it being my last EVO work. I'd very much like to work on ROTV III, but I don't want to do it half assed, or rushed, or anything like that. I'm pretty content actually to have ROTV II be the last one in the series done by me. And as for the missions being written up- it is true. But I don't know where they are back home, and quite frankly, they're pretty well out of date and obsolete. Thinking back on it, I don't think I would write it now the way I did then.
That said, I appreciate your offer, and anyone elses, but it isn't something I can take on right now. However, if one or two of you would like to give it a go- feel free. I give my full permission for the use of the name and my ideas. I'd be more than happy to give my insight, advice, etc throughout the process, but in terms of programming/development, I just wouldn't have the time to commit to make it fair to you guys. If you want to do it- go for it. The credit would be entirely yours- not mine. I love the EVO universe, and I want to see these boards continue to thrive for years to come. I wish I could contribute more, but I've only got so much time. But there's no reason other people can't carry on the traditions. For as long as people continue to do so, I'll be here.
