Government Personalities.

Ok, guess I wasn't gone forever.
Im doing research to create graphical images for all of the races. Now, Im trying to get information. Only in game info, please.. no theories or speculation.
I would do this myself but my mac is broken, I can't read all the mission desc's (aww poor me)

So, with your help and facts of the ships, I will produce a series of images. Not just Face shots, but Images of homes, social groups, and other items of interest. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, but I really need facts directly out of the game. Got it? Good.

Thanks, and the images will be posted to the galleries as soon as they are prepared.
I need informations on Voinians first.. but any is highly appreciated.

Metal, metal, metal. And red lines, I guess. Just don't overdo it I guess.

Baddies like the Voinians tend to be ugly, but you can make that choice.

Um, oh, and their world is heavily polluted. I'd think heavy industry is very prevalent, and since it's an empire there's probably an emperor running the show.

Not sure. In the When the Voinians came... webstory (september 2001) they constantly talk about Voinian Emperor, and Reign of the UE mentions it when McPherson assasinates Voinian Emperor.

Neither are officially EVO.

Due to the ridiculous post count, new name (or revival of old) is being considered.

You won't have much info you go strictly "official EVO". EV games have always left enough room for the player's own imagination and therefore lacked detailed description. The only info you'd have if you go "official EVO" is that the Vionians are an aggressive alien specie.

I know I wont get much, but it seems I already know more than most.
1a. Voinians have slaves
1b.Voinians mistreat their slaves, and have public executions.

2. Voinians are arrogant.

3. probably slow, and somewhat strong... naturally armoured perhaps

Well, not necessarily. In some cases a race's ships will reflect their personalities and characteristics, but in other cases they may represent what they aspire to be. So if they're these soft, squishy bugs, maybe they feel better protected with lots of armor.

Of course, you could probably easily prove that wrong by checking some descriptions of Voinians (there's gotta be some out there, right?)...Ah well.

Well, whatever the case maybe, the officials never say anything about the ruling government of the Voinians. This is to allow the developers to come up with their own ideas like what kulong said along the lines.

The ruling head for the Voinian Empire could be an emperor, or a war council, or perhaps a triumvirent. Lists like these could go endless.

Like in ROTUE, it was an emperor, though I highly doubt that Admiral McPherson would be in a situation to kill the emperor himself.
I know for a fact that the the government of the UE is run by a UE president, this is only because the oops resources mentions the state of the address given by the UE president after Adml. McPherson makes his statements.

Anyways, I better not digress from the topic. I am also considering drawing EVO characters, but not all of them. Only the ones pertaining to an expansion scenario I'm working on right now.

I once tried creating a Voinian solder and a Miranu woman in 3D, but I was never able to get anything that looked sufficiently non-human, but still looked like a person.

This would show the existence of a president, but is not inherent proof that said president "runs" the government.

I do believe David is right.. for some reason I visualized a senate ruling the UE, with the president having little power... kinda like the Queen of England..

Good point about the ships being what the race aspires to be, I kinda thought about it a bit already.. I dont know. I would think they would have slow reflexes, and thats whats holding them back from having fast fighters... but still...
gets headache

If anyone was to draw an Azdgari, at least they could get what tiny little bit of information they could get based on the initial desc offering string dialog of the starting Azdgari mission string.

The Azdgari's sharp teeth are revealed as he hisses with amusement. He lolls back in his seat, looking calculatedly off-guard as he waves for a drink. "My Arada had one side blown off in a little difference of opinion with a few renegades in the Racet system and I ejected. However I was carrying some rather valuable items on board and I am not now in a position to get them back. Do we understand each other?" Considering, you nod yes. "I will meet you, then, at <RST> by <DL>. With 150,000 credits. Watch out for those renegades." He strides off, bouncing a little with each step.

Basically, he sounds like a reptilian snake like creature of some kind. Wouldn't be surprised if he was green just like the Azdgari vessels.

The "Why Azdgari Love Their Pornographic Azdaras So Much" Problem

What colour are the majority of our technological constructs? Grey. Any major colours are likely to be red, blue, green, sometimes yellow, etc. and not pink (or brown in case of coloured folk.) Why? Well, if you saw a spaceship that was pink coloured and had two pods on the bottom with a red dot in the middle of each pod, you'd say "breasts." If you saw a long, darker pink cannon...you get the picture. Generally, the colour of skin is not the colour of the ship.

Prove Myself Wrong: Azdgari may be entirely different in their mentality, and they may actually quite enjoy having pornographic Azdaras.

Unwanted Theorising on Voinian Anatomy
The Voinians are xenophobic, the game appears to show, and make slaves of other species. What does this suggest about their mentality? Does this mean they are arrogant, strong, greedy, "evil"? Greed may come into it, but the Voinians have settled planets that they had no reason to settle. Pride - pride was what took us to the Moon, pride is what makes us want to go into the stars, and pride is what fuels the Voinians. But what fuels pride? What makes a species decide that its proud of itself? Why, failure, of course. Wasn't much of the American populace incredibly proud of its government after lack of security at airports got thousands killed? It seems odd, but a certain pride did hypocritically rise from that.

The Voinians, I'm suggesting, are at the deepest level unimpressed by their own existance. They lack confidence, and surety, for them to believe that everyone is an enemy and must be conquered.

Now look at their vessels. What to note positively? They are large , they are well defended , and they are strong (think of how they'd view neutron weaponry - it's powerful per shot.) They aspire to be large, and they seem to aspire to be physically well protected (perhaps they were prey to a heavily armoured species in their pre-industrialisation times?), and finally, they aspire to be strong. So I would suggest, the Voinians are physically unimpressive.

Mankind has had a certain link with projectiles, starting thousands of years ago. Slingshots, bows, throwing spears, and the like. When we get angry, we don't decide to eat angrily, we don't decide to leap up and down, and we don't always decide to hit things. A lot of the time, we throw things. We have a certain link with projectiles, which is likely why we build aircraft and missiles. The Voinians have rockets, but they have no guided projectile - even though it would be relatively simple to make. And they certainly don't seem to have the same love for speed that we do. It might also be reasonable to assume their arms are built slightly more like an ape, curved inwards, and not at all suitable for throwing. They are likely higher with endurance than they are with speed, and can take quite a beating (but not as much as they wish they could take.)

In other words, a small grey gorilla. Yep, that's right, we're at war with a species of small grey gorillas...

You have entirely too much time on your hands, SD.

Really, I imagined Azdgari as tall, thin green dudes with dark hair-like structures and their sharp pointed teeth.

I thought of the miranu of vaguely human-like, and definately humanoid. Just kinda of thin small people with pale skin. Don't ask me where I get that from I just always imagined them like that.

I always thought the UE looked like giant purple flying monkies.

If you check around carefully enough in the game, you will get plenty of hints sugesting that the Azdgari, Igadzra, and Zidagar are in fact the same species, only they broke up into several competing governments, or strands. (Their names are composed of the same letters, etc.) It seems likely that their original home planet was Gadzair (planet orbited by Council Station, composed of same letters as strand names.) Major differences are probably uniforms and body modifications (the Azdgari sharpen their teeth to appear fiercer, etc.)

The Voinians always vaguely reminded me of Douglas Adams' Vogons (ugly, sluglike, bad poetry,) except that they would be grey.

I know this is mostly speculation...

The game says that many Igadzra are farmers, and that the Zidagar enjoy overexcessive drama.

More than just hints - here's what the 'Override Civilisations' chapter of the documentation says:

Quote

This area of space is inhabited by an alien race whose name has been lost with time, if it ever had one. It is split into several factions: the three Strands (Azdgari, Zidagar and Igadzra), and the Strandless.

Yes, I've always seen the Voinians as looking like something somewhere between the Vogons and the Jem'Hadar.

The Zidagar are also described as the most humanlike in behaviour, and the Igadzra are incredibly paranoid - there's also the suggestion that they're fairly bureaucratic.
