Has anyone ever thought that the computer AI in the EV series (Nova excepted) is a bit suicidal at times? The standard attack pattern for a warship or interceptor is to move towards you, firing its guided weapons (if any) and engaging at close range with turrets or guns and rockets. In the case of fighters this is okay, they can get out of there quickly. But slow capital ships with weak protection such as Turncoats become sitting ducks when they attack. Also, to stop people using Monty Python, I think attacking ships should break off if they realise that they are not gaining much distance on their enemy and try something else - this would have presented a whole new challenge and increase the game's longevity, although I don't think the game has decreased in popularity one bit

That's true, the AI in most combat games are really stupid. For example, the AI in Wargames for PlayStation will just sit there shooting you at its lowest rate of primary weaponfire until it dies!

That's why they took so much time to improve the AI for Nova.

Well, before Nova, I found Ares's AI gave a bit more of a challenge, until someone pointed out that the AI just likes to fly ships in loops.

That's not suicide. The computer doesn't judge how weak or strong you are, and thats a somewhat effective strategy for at least doing some damage. Sometime they would kill me when I flew non-capital ships.
