On the mission to return to earth station to restore your democratic status (the one where you get chased by democratic ships) how do you do it in the time limit? All the routes seem to take at least one to many jumps.

Hm, I don't remember this mission...all I remember is always failing that Emile mission.
So all I can suggest is making sure your ship is one that takes only one day per jump, but if you already have the Tachyonic fighter, I guess there isn't much you can do. Martin Turner could probably help you on this one though.

You need a reasonable legal status to accomplish most of the missions in FH.
If you've somehow become a criminal (through no fault of your own, perhaps, or more likely by piracy, planetary domination and other foul means) the 'restore democrat status' mission kicks in. This mission can occur in a large number of places -- but you should only accept it very close to Earth, otherwise you won't be able to accomplish it in time.
Fortunately for you, you get more than one shot at redemption. However, the consequences of each failure are serious.

How do the flares work? I bought them and expected them to show up as a Secondary Weapon. WRONG! Is there a special Flare Launcher?
How do you benefit from purchasing Local Knowledge from the Outfit Ship section? I've purchased it and gone to the bar in hopes on learning something. Again, WRONG! I know I'm overlooking something very obvious but...
Oh, and I agree with the esteemed author. FH is a VERY tough game.

Flares are like flares in EV; you need to buy the launcher as well. Personally I feel that the Dust Sprayer is better. As for Local Knowledge, it's a short-range map.
