Wave of Destruction, Ch. 4-7 (webstory)

Saraine watched over the Angel’s Lair’s security cameras as the Pirate “ambassador” came aboard.
“The man’s a smelly, unprincipled barbarian fanatic from a whole sewer full of barbarian fanatics.” he grumbled. “Why, oh why , did the Azdgari send him to us? We may have helped the Azdgari in the past, and the rewards are truly awesome, but that does not give them the right to send the scum of the galaxy onto my Lair any time they choose!”
Turning to his new XO, he snapped, “Grab a free ship -one of the ore haulers here from our refineries in Azdgari should do- shove the Pirate filth onto it, and send him off to wherever the Azdgari call their headquarters now.”
“But, sir-”
“Do it!” Saraine yelled, thinking, someday I will have to get myself a competent XO.
”Yessir!”
“While you’re at it, get a connection to Rasael and Raven. I have an idea.”
“Yessir!”
While Rasael was quick to come online, a connection to Raven ended in her secretary repeating the phrase “Raven is currently unavailiable at present.”
Seizing the comm, he yelled, “Well, find her! Tell her if she doesn’t turn up I will personally take away her cherished Archangel!”
“Yessir.”
I am really getting sick of that phrase, Saraine thought.
Raven appeared onscreen, eyes red with tears.
“You know something about that House of Jama merc, don’t you?” Rasael asked curiously.
She shook her head. “It’s nothing, just old memories.”
Saraine cut in; “Sometimes old memories are potent motivators. Tell me.”
Raven shook her head again. “No. My nightmares are my own.”
Saraine shook his own head in frustration. “Well, so long as it doesn’t impact on your command ”
“It won’t, I promise.”
“Good. Now, what I called you to ask is, the Dark Angels need an ally. I know the blasted Miranu, they can’t be trusted-”
“I know.” Raven muttered, almost below earshot.
“The Azdgari are getting entirely too comfortable with us. They sent a pirate fanatic to my Lair, for goodness sake! That rules them out. But at the same time, we don’t want to upset them which rules out the Coalition.”
“That leaves the Zidagar.” Rasael concluded.
“Pre-cisely!” Saraine answered. “I’m hoping we can get their hyperspace inhibitors, myself.”
“Now that’s a grand idea!” Rasael’s eyes twinkled.
“We are agreed, then? We send a message to the Zidagar?”
“Yes.” Rasael answered.
“Yes.” echoed Raven.
“Then let it be done. I’ll get down to writing it right away.”
“Write well, friend. Rasael out.”
“Raven out.”
Saraine called up his message systems, and began to dictate.

(message re: alliance)
(Zidagar, we come to you in the name of peace between our peoples. Relationships between our factions have been tense ever since the Battle of The Rock, but now is the time to put that behind us. A new Wave of Destruction is dawning, and we must ride the crest.
So I ask, Zidagar friends; do you require the military aid of the Dark Angels? For adequate payment, of course, we will be happy to help.

As the 5 crescent warships and 2 gunships pull back after their initial wave, the renegades immediately pursue them, not wanting them to recharge. Heavy skad turret fire (from the azdgari) battered the retreating wave, finishing off a few warships. As a salvoe of 5 Neuk rockets from renegade laziras hits an already damaged gunship, it explodes, and that triggers the second wave of mamajama's fleet. As the crescent warships storm forward, 12 Renegade aradas move to meet them, and a wave of nuek rockets beats them back, with the CW's taking out a few aradas, nothing more. The Renegade ships move back, and the ships stare at each other. There is only about 25 renegade ships, and 8 are fighters. There are 10 aradas, 5 laziras, and 2 crescent warships in the system, ready to fight to the death.
**

Mamajama, with no time to mourn the exploded Gunship's captain, orders the third wave in:
"Take out the Warships and Laziras! Use the repulsors, two of ours on one ship!" Quickly she indicates targets to the captains. The first wave has regenerated shields, and she orders them against the remaining Aradas and Laziras.A young, new captain, fresh off the farm, has decided to be a hero, and go up against a Lazira by herself. "L'mida! What are you doing?"MJ screams on the com, but it is too late. Although the Lazira has taken a Repulsor hit and is knocked off its intended course, its neuk rockets slam into L'mida's Warship, and it drifts, crippled, for a few moments before another neuk finishes it off. A farm girl sees her last sunrise, as her ship disintegrates around her.

Another Gunship is disabled by the same renegade tactic. Mamajama pilots the Poch's Pride in herself to keep off neuk fire from the disabled Gunship, and demolishes the last Lazira in a barrage of lysew fire. The Pride takes heavy armor damage, though, and Mamajama hears the ominous whine of engines venting antimatter. With seconds left, she orders "To the escape pods!" and runs to one herself. Her last command before leaving the Pride is to order her remaining ships to protect the disabled ships and take out the few Aradas and fighters remaining on the Renegade side.

Then she climbs into the escape pod and ejects, getting an up close and personal view of the last of the battle. One Crescent fighter, aware that this escape pod contains the author of Hrekka's current misery, aims straight for her vulnerable pod.

"Fool...."

"What? What is this?" Yakuza asked, looking around. He had gone to sleep onboard the Valhalla , but he now found himself in the middle of a blasted wasteland, all covered with black soot and dust and ash. The sky was black and purple, with clouds letting no light in from the sun. There were no mountains or hills; just fields, endless fields of blasted and rocky black dirt.

"Fool...." the voice said again, seemingly from nowhere.

"Who are you? What do you want?" he said, scrambling to grab his phase pistol, which to his dismay was not there.

"Fool..." The voice was alien, dark, and evil, but Yakuza had heard it before, somewhere....

"You should have left us alone... Now we will get you..."

"But-"

"Skra'daeth!!"

Suddenly, a black shape zoomed past Yakuza to his left. He turned to see what it was, but it had already disappeared. Suddenly another blurred, black thing ran directly in front of him.

Yakuza back off, terrified. "Who the heck are you people??"

"Die... You will die... You have seen us... Die!!!!"

And with that the sky was filled with flying, black shapes, with murdurous glowing red eyes. One of them suddenly flew down, screeching, towards Yakuza. He screamed...

------------------

Yakuza awoke with a start, still on the Valhalla. He collapsed back on his bed, sweaty and frightened. "So, it was all a dream..." he said, panting.

Suddenly, a word came to his mind, one which he had tried to ignore... Acarra...

Jeynek Coral examined the eyes of the man who was speaking to him, to sense any traces of madness. Unfortunately, he saw none - only fear.

"Sir, we must tell the President immediately! We're being invaded!" the man near screamed. The man had been sent out to look for the 23rd patrol, and had somehow come to a strange conclusion involving aliens.

"No we're not," Coral replied smoothly. "I'd suggest that you spend some time in a psychiatric unit. People with your mental problems can be restored."

The man blinked. He had not, obviously, been expecting that. "But Sir Coral, we lost an entire scout fleet! We can't just ignore that."

"Yes we can," came Coral's answer, equally calm. Coral's war was with the Azdgari, and he didn't want to start panic. As far as he was concerned, the Coalition was simply a stepping stone for him. He didn't care how many died.

"I'm going to tell the-" the other man began, but his word were cut off abruptly as a huge hand took him by the neck, crushing his spine effortlessly. The man rose into the air, and then was allowed to fall into a crumpled wreck on the ground. Behind him, the hulking Voinian figure of Thćr grinned.

"Did I do good, Master?" Thćr asked, with feigned respect.

"You did just perfect, Thćr. Send out Nightmare. I want anyone who might suspect aliens killed within two days. We'll say the scout fleet was destroyed by Confeds."

"But what about our suggested alliance with them? Thćr asked with a frown.

"Screw it. We don't need them," Coral shrugged. Thćr's grin quickly returned.

"This is how I like my wars," Thćr laughed.

Z'tar's ship, Spirit, lands smoothly on the ground on Tumni, and he gets ready to leave. "Computer?"

"Yes, Z'tar, Sir?"

"Have you completed that prototype blueprint that I asked you for?"

"Why yes Sir."

"Why wasn't I notified as I had asked?"

"I notified you, Sir."

"Hmm... I must have dosed off then. Print them out for me in my quarters."

"Yes Sir."

He goes back to his quarters to find the printouts freshly printed and dropped from the printer on the wall awaiting him on his desk. Lifting the papers up, he places them flat in his carrying case and adds a few more odd things on top. He closes the case and walks back into the control room. "Computer?"

"Yes, Z'tar Sir?"

"Can you check and see if my messages were checked yet by Espilot and Kenel?"

"Checking, Sir... ... ... Yes, Sir, they have already been read and both file attatchments have been accessed."

"Good, good."

With that, he walks to the hatch of his ship and unlocks it. "Oh, Computer, notify Espilot that I've arrived."

"Yes, Si--" he closes and locks the hatch on the other side and climbs down where his escort awaits him.

"Where to Z'tar, Sir?"

"The Naval High Command." he replies. He sits down in the escourt's ship and, being that the ship ahd been left running, immediately lifts off and starts moving.

The trip wasn't very long, and soon, they had landed again. Z'tar gets out onto the ground and walks towards the main doors of the Naval High Command. He pucnhes in the code and places his hand on the scan pad. The waiting light blinks for a few seconds, and then turns green as the door slides open with a whisp. He walks in and the door closes behind him, again with the same whisp. Going to his own office first to recieve the information in his mail from Kenel about phasing technologies.

He passes some familiar faces in the halls, but no one seems to being getting the same affect as he, so no greetings are said. Finding his old familiar door, he opens it and walks inside. After turning the lights on, he sees that his office is still the way he left it. He walks to his computer on the far side of the room and accesses the his mail account. A few beeps later, and he's printing out the information he'd asked for from his ship. "Good ole' Kenel." He smiles and packages the papers into his case and leaves his office, lights automatically turning off as the door closes.

Quickly, he travels in the direction of Espilot's office ready to discuss future plans.

Now, a mercenary group called the Dark Angels has contacted us, wishing to make an alliance. They are a large group, and are excellent at their profession. What do you think about making an alliance, Vice Admiral?"

The crippled hulk of the Coalition Warcruiser Excalibur drifted in space, its crew dead or unconscious. About it moved four large, dark shapes, and one its hull sat the fith dark form, slowly feeding on the artificial source of energy.

The slug-like forms moved in circles around the warcruiser as a layer of slime stretched out from the slug attatched to it, until finally it was fully encased. Then the slime turned from clear to a sort of yellowish-green, and it began thick, and bumpy, but still felt like a slug.

The ship was being consumed, while its crew was eaten alive to breed more of these 'things'. Then the small group of lifeforms moved off, and suddenly zipped out of the system, using a form of transportation unknown...

-----------------

Captain Thelan, the voinian commander of the ore frieghter Tilandul , looked around at the dark bridge. "Korin! Wake up!" he said, shaking his lieutenant awake.

"Sorry captain... Didn't get much sleep yesterday..." Korin replied, looking at his console.

"Remember to stay awake! No telling when a Confederate ship might pop out of nowhere and open fire, even so near to Pax..." he said, when suddenly the ship shook slightly.

Warning lights immediately went on, including a large blue one which signified that shields had been annihilated, almost instantly. "What the heck is happening?" Thelan demanded.

"I-I don't know sir!" Korin replied nervously. "Sensors are off line!"

Thelan grabbed a neutron rifle. "Captain to all hands; report?"

"AHHHHH!!!!" The voice of a crewmember in pain came over the comlink instantly, but suddenly went dead.

"What the heck?" Thelan yelled.

"Captain! Help.... Aliens...." came another voice, but this one was nearer to the bridge.

"Cut off the comlink! Are internal sensors working?"

"Just barely..."

"Are there any other lifesigns onboard?"

"None that I can see, but I am detecting increased EMP signatures."

Suddenly, the door to the bridge shook and Thelan turned around, his neutron rifle ready. Korin also got up and readied his pistol. The door suddenly sparked and fell to the ground.

"Die!!" Thelan yelled and fired a bolt of neutron energy. There was a shriek as it hit something, and Korin walked forward to see what it was.

"Slugs!" he yelled in surprise. "About six of them; all burnt to a sizzling crisp."

"Any more of them?"

"Whoa...." Korin said. "There's more of them! About a dozen more, and they're trying to come in fast!"

"Shoot them!!" Thelan yelled.

"AAAAAAHHHH!" Korin suddenly yelled. "Back!! Back you.... Ulgh...." he suddenly fell to the flour, blood pouring from his ears as one of the slugs slowly chewed its way into his brain, where it would lay its eggs, which would hatch and grow into more of its kind. The brain was the perfect place for the eggs to grow and hatch, especially when it was impossible to remove them without killing the victims.

"You won't take this thing alive!!" Thelan yelled, firing at the slugs, but they were now crawling in from every opening.

Thelan began to reach for the self destruct, when suddenly a very large and very mean-looking slug leapt out from a air vent. It stood there and looked at Thelan, who was shaking with fear, trying to push the button.

He never made it.

The slug growled and lept at him, knocking him across the room. When the Voinian tried to get up, the monsterous slug lept on him, and began eating him alive. Soon, the whole crew was dead, eaten, or unconscious with eggs being laid in their heads. The slugs onboard disappeared, chewing their way out of the hull, attaching to another larger slug outside, then disappearing, leaving their eggs and dead and comatose crewmen behind...

And at that moment, the computer voice spoke.... "(i)Entering the Dogover system, capitol of the Coalition...."

OV walked into a room in Mavs Station where a man was standing for him.

"Hello, I am Thero" the man said.

"I am OV, leader of the Strand Renegades. What do you want?" OV replied

"I'm here to sell you some technology. I have wide arrays of missles and rockets."

"What's your price?"

"I want full escort of 25 of your ships where ever I go."

"and why would I give you that?"

"because I told you to" the man said as he whipped out a blaster and fired.

OV dove out of the way reaching for his blaster when another shot came and hit the blaster, which turned into a twisted hunk of hot metal. OV got up and dove at Thero, knocking him backward. As Thero got up OV kicked him in the chest, sending him flying out the windo iinto the hallway. OV reached for a spare blaster and fired but Thero sprang up running. OV went to the comm link, "Security. Man posing as Thero, running down hallway ZD-19. Arrest immediatly."

"Sir, We had him tracked. He's already gone"

({snip} message edited to reflect Grundy's edited post and reprimand from Carno about premature slug research.)

Mamajama, waking from a pleasant dream of growing drought-resistant opium and squishing slugs on Poch, realizes that she is still head down over Hrekka in an escape pod, and that a battle is raging around her. Regretfully, she says good bye to the vision of Raven smiling understandingly and telling her that it was OK, Mamajama was only following orders. Now, how to survive and complete the mission?

Virtually all of the renegade ships are destroyed, but salvos of missiles are shooting up from the planet itself. One of MJ's warships is broadsided and explodes in a rain of debris.
Gritting her teeth in rage, MJ watches helplessly as her friend and one-time lover Foster is obliterated. MJ wrenches at the primitive controls of the escape pod and puts out a distress call.

"SOS!!Dammit! I'm hanging here in an escape pod with _____ing SADs all around, would you mind tractoring me out of here?"

The salvo of 20 SADS is wreaking havoc among the ships of MJ's fleet; however, one relatively unscathed Miranu Gunship manages to evade the SADS and tractor MJ's escape pod into the hangar bay. After a medic gives her a quick once over, she is ready to finish the job.

On the bridge of her rescuer's ship, she gets a situation report. It is grim. 10 of the 30 ships she came in with are space debris. 10 good captains and crews, too. But no time to mourn, yet. The disabled vehicles have been towed to the outlying area of the system.

"All available ships...get your coordinates of the planet's surface from Amano here. Sterilize, and I mean, to the microbial level, Hrekka. If anything even remotely alive is there when we're done, I want you to remember Foster and all our friends who died today, and go back and DO IT AGAIN!"

Signing off, Mamajama reflects that it was just this kind of vengeful battle rage that filled her the day she sent Crescent Warships on a suicide raid, killing billions of Azdgari. Unoriginally, she observed, "War is hell."

MOD: Hmmmmm.... I hate to say this, but that looks like it was purposefully developed to combat the alien slugs (which have recently been sighted), when there is no way anybody outside the Coalition would know anything about them. 😛 I may be wrong, but that's what it looks like, and it's an awful coincidence you're researching it around now when the slugs are starting to appear (even though your character should not know).

And yes, I am a mod know. Red temporarily appointed me because he's going to be very busy for a week or two.

OOC: The disruptor armour weapon is revoked, it's too strong for four posts. Make it a special weapon, around 250 tons for the launcher, and 20 posts research, and it'll be strong. It'll freeze a shielded ship in flight, and tear holes theough armor, and tear holes through planets after about 5 hours...

OOC: Carno, you're still a mod, but I'll be controlling my races.. 😄 .
(Except Yakuza, I said you can use him however you want)

the Pirate fleet arrives in huan.. and is quite shocked at what they find.
Miranu, Confed, Coalition, even Azdgari ships are infused with the fleet of heavily upgraded helians and turncoats. Turncoats with strand weapons... Helians armed like strong aradas... shield upgrades, maneuverability.
The dreadnought and fleet? It's met it's match.
The dreadnought is confident of it's power, however, and it storms forward, and both fleets launch long-range weaponry, and both sides take heavy damagae, and the fighter sweeps take out each other's medium vessels. Suddenly, the large warships charge each other, with the dreadnought in the middle, deadling heavy damage to the enemy fleet. Shrapnel and debri are everywhere.
The shields are down for both fleets, the dreadnought has taken severe damage in several quadrants, however it destroyed several large ships on it's own. The dreadnought jumps out, to prevent it's destruction. The defence fleet is outnumbered, just barely. The attacking fleet moves to the planet, and sends a broadcast.
In-system
To all ships nearby
Attention. We have our bombardment bombs readied. Give us the planet, and we will maintain the planet as our base, and the civilians will live. Fire one more shot, and half the population will die in an instant. Do you want to kill your own people? You're decision.
End
The pirates tense up, not knowing the decision, but knowing that no commander would willingly kill his family and friends.
Suddenly, the defenders hyperspace out, and the pirates land, forced to keep their word, or have the independant navy as a whole breathing down their necks.

---------------------------- Hrekka
ooc: Grundulator, MAmajama, you need to edit your post, one of you. Talk on aim to settle it. I dont see why confeds would be in Hrekka either, so you have to give a reason.

The renegade fleet is demolished, however the planet launches a large amount of upgraded SAD's.. Extremely upgraded SAD's...
A salvo of twenty fans throughout the fleet, and when the first one impacts, the shockwave is immense. five hit a large warship, and it's disabled.. the other 14 hit their respective targets while the planet is slowly sterilized by mamajama's fleet.

After the Security breach by Thero OV had some of his top hunters hunt him down but none could find him. Security precautions had become tighter at Mavs Station. Groups of ships hung out around the system making sure everyone's buisness was known and the ship quickly combed through.

Question time, who exactly are the renegades fighting?

Background Development

In the Kade system, all was still. Not even an Azdgari patrol or merchant frieghter moved through it. All was silent, disturbed only by the occassional floating asteroids.

But there was something about this system that set it appart from others. It was Crescent Station; though it looked like an ordinary Crescent-style station, no one could ever get in past the outer docking ring; the inside was a secret, and a secret that had kept the strands from exploring beyond the crescent for decades.

Suddenly, the station vibrated slightly. The inner docking ring began to glow, and suddenly a bay opened, exposing a massive crystal. The crystal was glowing bright white, and the station began to rotate.

Finally, it began to spin, and the crystal began to glow cyan as well. Finally, out lanced a beam of pure energy, striking an area of sub-space, and setting the area aglow with cyan light.

Finally, there was a flash. The beam stopped, the station returned to its normal position, and the bay was closed.

Peace was restored, but it was not so, at least not for long.

The station had been signalled to open the hyperspace link to beyond the crescent. The station had served its purpose, and now it had been commanded by its makers; not the Azdgari or the Council, but someone else, someone who had ordered it done in the first place, and just done it through the Gadzair.

However, the hyperlink was only accessible to one race, and that one race did not want to share its secret link, and it would fight to the death to protect it.

Suddenly, there was a bright flash as a massive ship entered the system. Dwarfing even the Coalition Warcruiser, the huge ship moved slowly through the system, scanning it and the surrounding area for any alien vessels. It was sleek and black, with huge engines, and a shield grid three times the power of the largest ship around. It suddenly released what looked like a swarm of smaller, scoutship-like ships, all with glowing blue engines and black frames. They were extrordinarily nimble, outmaneuvering even the fastest Azdara. Then, the command ship hyperspaced out, heading back for its home, and leaving behind the scouts which cloaked and quickly dispersed into the depths of space...

---------------

We have come...

The dark voice starlted Yakuza, awaking him in a terrible fright. He looked around, breathing heavily. "Just... just a dream..." he told himself, but it wasn't like a dream or in real life where you heard somebody. The words came into his head, as if someone.... or something.... had said something to him telepathically.

Shaking off the dark thoughts, Yakuza went back to bed, but it was restless, and one filled with darkness...

---------------

Out of the depths of space, they came. Swarms of them, though they did not look like swarms at first, their intentions unknown, their motives obscure.

In Gadzair, suddenly, a strange black shape entered the system in a flash of blue. It was alien in origin, using a kind of shield grid and armor never before seen, and it was giving off highly unusual energy readings. It zoomed about the system, making passes at the ships in the system, every once and a while zooming around near the planet. It didn't fire, it didn't stop, it didn't hail anyone, and scanners couldn't detect whether or not it had any weapons, or what kind of propulsion it used. It zoomed about in circles, spinning, twisting, and astounding the Dark Angel ships with its incredible speed and maneuverability.

It just continued to zoom about the system, endlessly, like a mindless zombie...

---------------

In the Iothe system, another of the alien scouts appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, and behaved as it had done in Gadzair; zipping around the system endlessly, sometimes as if it was just mad. Maybe it was taking scans, maybe it was just curious; nobody knew.

In the Thoso system, a third alien scout appeared, and it was followed shortly by a fourth, and then a fith. The three scouts zoomed about the system, flying between ships and around the moons and planet. One of them actually accidentally collided with a small asteroid, but it didn't slow one bit; whatever these small ships were, they were extremely durable, and could take large amounts of punishment.

At the same time in Blaga, Igadzra, Mark, Chak, and Apert five more scouts appeared. Then ships appeared in Toi, Molar, Valos, Himgro, Nemnel, Xix, and Funit. All behaved the same way, and all did not respond to any sort of hails.

Whatever these scouts were, and what their intentions were, nobody knew...

OOC: Not much to say, I just wanted to specify a few things.
1. Always refer the north and south tip renegades as "Renegades". The Coalition Pirates are the only pirates in thie story.
2. If I go more than two days, and there's something I need to post, Carno has control to do it, but only to reply to actions, no starting war, just defense and replies. Carno? You can help strngthen my alliance with the Pirates, you know how.

OOC: Great news people! Well, partial great news anyway. The Wave of Destruction website is UP! Well, not completely up, but you can look at it and get a little bit of info out of it.

It's link is: (url="http://"http://www.carnotaurhq.com/webstories/wod/")http://www.carnotaur...webstories/wod/(/url)

Only a small portion of it has been completed, but I will continue work over the next few days until I have everything uploaded.

Thanks for your patience.

the Pirate fleet arrives in huan.. and is quite shocked at what they find.

The fleet of 4 Dreadnoughts and 20 escorts each jump into the system and befor the pirate fleet knows what hit them nearly 1/4 of their ships (mostly capitals)are gone. the pirates now partly gleefull to detonate the bombs killing off much of the planets population."They will be missed."U.E. Admiral says onboard his dreadnought after seeing the explosions. "Let us mourn later and get revenge now!!the rest of the pirate fleet move in to engage the Coalition vessels.
space debris is now the dominate power in the system as the Coalition ships go medieval on the Pirates.
