Attacking Pirates @ Troub

Okay, I've played this game half a million times and completed the objective and whatnot. I decided, however, that I wanted to do the ROTUE plug-in, which looked cool (I've always liked plug-in's that give you tons of new missions). Unfortunately I've lost or destroyed the pilot(s) that I beat the game with (yes, I know you can't really 'beat' the game, I mean the UE central objective), so I figured I'd just start a new one. Well, I've done several of the UE missions; got the cloaking device, and I'm now allowed to purchase UE warships, etc. I've been flying a UE Destroyer with some nice phase turrets in place of the blaze cannons, and the afterburner and IFF decoder all that other stuff (I personally like rockets instead of hunter missiles, you can stuff an extra five on, and it's worth it if you use them well).

Well, in order to continue on with the Voinians, which is what I really want to do, I have to deal with this Free Huron and save them from the Renegades nonesense. I didn't remember it being this difficult, but when I jump into Troub (this is after making the alliance with the Free Huron faction to destroy the pirate fleet), I'm ripped to pieces by at least 25 of these damn Krait's! I've tried it half a dozen times, and I'm only able to destroy a small number of them before the little bastards finish me off! I've tried punching the afterburner to try and get away from the whole mess and destroy them one at a time, or in smaller numbers at least..but there's just too many of them.

I finally broke down and tried upgrading to the UE Carrier (I haven't done the cruiser mission yet, anyway), thinking that perhaps the extra weapon and more shielding will keep me alive longer. But no, I get killed twice as fast now; the UE Carrier kind of sucks, and four blaze turrets doesn't even begin to compare to the three phase turrets I had on my destroyer.

Then I had the bright idea of trying a UE Fighter; figured the speed would be able to get me away from the mess and take them down one at a time. No dice, those stupid Krait's are still too fast and too many (this is with the five escort fighters I left in space when I sold the Carrier, but they don't help enough).

I've still got a good three million credits or something, so I can buy back my destroyer and give it another shot. But I'm thoroughly frustrated and don't know what I can do about these friggin' Krait's! My one last salvation would be the cloaking device (it's a mean trick, cloaking and moving away to let everyone else kill each other), but unfortunately it was in my Frontier Express ship, which I sold for the Destroyer. I'm considering cheating to get the cloaking device back, but I'm hoping it won't come to that. Does anyone else have any bright ideas as to how I can kill 25+ Krait's before they kill me?

Frustrated (and sorry about the rambling, it's 3am),

That mission took me quite a while as well...if I remember correctly...you just take them out one by one by turning caps lock on and outrunning them, or i think by using the monty python maneuver to shoot them in a straight line while running away so that they die quickly one by one.

Go Red Sox! Down with the Yankees! 😛

Krait's are quite a bit faster then a UE Destroyer, unfortunately - they catch up and swarm all around very quickly with those mean little blaze cannons.

I'm making a quick plug to give myself back the cloaking device, and if it comes to it make the stupid Destroyer a lot faster.

The most simple solution to the Krait problem is your UE Destroyer and leave 45 in space for 3 needle launchers with 250 needles. Run away and select closest and fire 7-10 needles. Continue... till they are dead. I did this mission easily using human only outfits and ships. This works well. I had neutron cannons and rocket lauchers for the rest of my weapons outfits. I didn't even have speed upgrades although these would not hurt you at all.

Why are there no maroon ships?

Dunno what to tell you. My fav tactic is always to slam on the 'burners as soon as I jump in, giving me an easy Monty Python score of kills while running away. I use a beefed up Igazra, with jacked up shields and Dospect and Bronev slapped on. Only thing that took me a while in that was attacking The Rock. Crescent Fighters are a heckuva lot tougher than Kraits.

But you've already tried that tactic, so I don't know. That approach has never failed me, ever since I discovered it. It's cheap, but it works!

And BTW, you can use a program called (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=evo&category;=utilities&display;=date&file;=PFEv3.0.sit.hqx")PFE 3.0(/url) to give yourself back the cloaking device.

If you dont mind wasting a bit of money, get a UE carrier, and a voinian space mine launcher, and one mine. Right when the 25 kraits are around you, lay the mine. It will wipe out most of your shields, but will kill all of the kraits. Whatever's left, you can use the turrets on.

I say make some money, buy a Lazira or Crescent Warship, get four sheild enchancers and as many phase turrets as you can, get SAD module launchers and then go back and kick some tail. To make money just repeatedly haul tourists from Earth to New Rome using UE Freighter escorts. Haul food back to earth. There is a 250,000 credit turnaround from this. You can earn enough for a Crescent Warship in about three hours.

The mission is simple:

Krait speed = 350.

Buy an Arada. Equip it with swivel phase cannons and turrets, and an engine upgrade. You have enough money.

Your Arada's speed now = 450. Much faster than the kraits. You can then run away and zap them one by one, then move in on the larger vessels.

skip the damn arada and get a Azdara! speed=550 the 18 shields regenerates like mad so your virtualy invinceable. 3sw phase to comp. for speed. only 1.5 million. I have destroyed the voinian drednought head on with one. very good buy!
(I'm a 2 year veteran and fanatic.) the tactic is hold autopilot spacebar up and hit R rapidly to change targets. you'll be done in 5 minutes flat! 😉

I'm stuck here too... I took out the fleet on my 3rd try, but the thing is, everytime i land on Troub, nothing happens. I can't find Tzu. The fleet is totally history, i've tried flying back to Huron and then back to Troub only to find a few (maybe 2) renegades. Any help here? I mean, the objective is to destroy the fleet and land on troub, but when i do, nothing.... i'm getting frustrated and i'm scared i'll have to abort the mission and start over.

here's what i did (although you've gotten plenty better advice) i bought a UE Destroyer and sold all its weapons, and bought a cresent bay and 3 cresent fighters, then i left them in space and sold it for a UE Carrier and brought out my 5 UE Fighters, and hired 5 escorts. I just went in, with hunter missles on and rapidly hit R then F (to shoot nearest and send my ue fighter after it) and held in space bar while occasionally tapping the control key to shoot off some missles. it worked pretty darn well actually since the cresent fighters didn't need any direction they just attacked on their own.

I'd go with the needle missiles if I were you. It takes 5-6 to kill a krait, as long as you are in range.

Y'know I've never had a problem with this mission. Could be because I rigged my Freighter/Crescent Warship/Cruiser with a Repulser. Mixing Phase turrets with Nuetron turrets thins out the ranks as the repulser pushes them back a little; hold down the fire buttons for both primary and secondary weapons and rapidly pressing the closest target select button does wonders.

That one was a bitch to me the first time i tried it, but that was because i had a freight-courier. Personally, I get a Crescent Warship with 4 phase turrets, 4 shield gen., and dospect. There's more stuff on it but the stuff i said was the bare esentials. Oh wait theres more. I got all the engine upgrades, an afterburner, and fuel tanks for fuel. I only hit the burners for a sec to get away from the area where the Turncoats jumped in. The money thing wasent an issue cuz i used this route. Sol(Equipment) to Dogovor(Crassworms) to Omm(Meds) to Ariane(Metal or Food) to Sol. Get 6 frieghter escorts, and you'll have enough money to buy almost any ship in the game within 5-15 minutes of starting the route. There is a longer variation of the route, but i found this route to be the most time/money efficient. Anyway sell off the crescent bay, fighters, SAD launcher and modules and right there you get a good 2 mil to work with immediately.
