he is really getting to be a pain in the ass. I think he has about stolen two million from me now and Iv'e only had the damn game for six days!!!!!!! I have a alron or whatever and would have had a lazaria for a long time now if not for that bastard. I believe I am entitled to my thirty days without bull **** like this...sooo does anyone know of a plugin/crack that will remove him and his dam money stealing ways?

Anyway, since you seem to be so addicted to the game, I don't know what the problem is with paying the $25 registration code... it's well worth it.
And, the 30-day thing is how long you're entitled to play without registering, I believe... not how long you are entitled to play without having Hector be a pain in the arse.

There is/was some plug called "Credit Sticks" or somewhere along those lines that allowed you to "invest" in a credit stick; basically, you bought it, then could sell it back, so that it was money that Hector couldn't steal.
As for the whole Hector-stealing-money thing, I agree, it sucked. I think it is one of the most horrible aspects of the game, as it punishes the player for not registering the game when they download it, not punishing them for not registering it AFTER the 30-day period. I, too, got bugged by Hector when I first played it. End result: I stopped playing. To this day, I've logged maybe 4 to 5 hours, total, in the EVO captain's chair, mainly due to the extremely negative first encounters with Hector.

Until the day I registered EVO, which was a while after I got it due to the fact that I was a poor kid, I never had an issue with Hector stealing money... And I played a LOT.
I can't understand why Hector is being quite so troublesome. It sounds to me as if Kermit, or somebody else, has previously installed EV:O on the machine. Or...?

Anyway, if he's being really annoying, here's my counter-Hector advice:
Don't leave credits in your bank account, if you're playing unregistered. Always buy as many carried fighters (UE, Crescent, even Krait) as possible. You don't need the bay to buy the fighters, and they weigh nothing. This is a good way to tie up a few hundred thousand credits in a theft-proof manner. Buy shield capacitors (and perhaps engine upgrades) for the same reason, and you can hide a few million.
Try to land as seldom as possible. Get fuel from enemy ships, hail friendly ones, or use fuel scoops. Land only where required to by missions. Hector only steals money on takeoff. Try to avoid landing particularly when you have large amounts of cash on board, such as when you have completed the Huron missions. Fly straight to the place that can sell you your new ship, and don't talk to any strange parrots on the way.
Of course, ultimately, the best answer is to register the game. It will have cost you less than $1 an hour to play, and if you're an addict like me, less than ten cents an hour. Rather better value than the arcades. Register.

a crack? you mean how can you steal the game? i was in your shoes and was going to buy the game, just hadnt gotten around to it at the time. i had 8 million credits and was going to buy a crescent warship, and cpt. f'in hector took 4 million of my credits. needless to say i had some kind words with the computer at that point. but, it also pushed me to go ahead and register. i didnt play it anymore until i got my code, but it was all the better when i did. no, there are no cracks for this game, after the first one matt and the crew fixed it so no one could steal it, trust me, i tried

I installed EVO on my Performa quite a long time ago, and recently he's started firing rockets at me! It started with blaze cannons then moved up to phase, now rockets. What next?

I didn't find Override worth registering, so I let Hector satisfy his money-hungry self all he wanted. Hector wasn't nearly as annoying in Escape Velocity, yet I registered soon after I started playing.

Ive played the game for about 20 hours several hours a day. In my first game which I didnt complete but I had the Zidagar warp ship. But I didnt like the races that liked me and disliked and such. So I started anew. I now have a alrod or whatever which I captured by luck with the cargo transporter. I was in the middle of a fight between the zidagar and and the idazagra and I boarded two of the idazagra war cruisers and stole about 500,000 each!! Then I stole about 400,000 fomr the zidagar. I had about 2,300,000 so I only needed about 500,000 to get the lazaira and Dam Hector stole about 700,000 from me DAM HIM!!! He then stole two times more from me practically on the same day. And I cany avoid landing on planets to get missions and such. ANd I dont want to register because I am running the game on a mac emulater so I cant play any of the plugins because they all error. SO I dont get the full proportions of the game. No he has not shot at me but stolen enough to make me kill him. I couls easily avoid him if he only attacked me but this is much harder. I dont really have enough room to carry lots of things that are worth enough credits.
There are two very easy ways of dealing with Captain Hector:
Ignore her all you want. Granted this won't keep her from stealing your credits or attacking you, but I learned to do it until the beginning of 2001 in which I registered. I may miss Hector, but I have since overcome that brief period.
If you wish to get rid of Hector so she does not steal your credits or kill you after 30 days, there is one simple thing you can do. That simply is: Register.
There is an alternitive, although I would only see cheats and people of low moral to do it. You could always take Override and open it with ResEdit and commit the act of software piracy, basicly ripping off Ambrosia in the procces.
Those are all the options I have to offer.

I ended up registering because there isn't much else you can do (except that res-edit thing). I tried to get the credit stick thing (am I saying this on the Ambrosia Web board?) but all the links were screwed up (wonder why...). So I tried to make my own Anti-Hector plug. I had 100,000 and 1,000,000 credit cargo bays that didn't do anything and didn't weigh anything. The problem was, however, as time goes by the value of things you buy for your ship goes down, so you end up losing about 200,000 credits on the million before actually being able to buy a warship. So I registered. (Actually I bought the CD)

I only started playing EV:O after having clocked EV, so I figured I'd be alright until the trial period was up. After playing for a couple of days, I had about seven million creds when hector struck, which forced me to go for a lazira rather than a crescent warship.
On the other hand, you could just lay-off playing for a few days until your registration comes through. I really don't understand people who don't register good shareware, considering the lifespan of both EV and EV:O compared to many off-the-shelf titles.

Dude... You are asking about cracks for an ambrosia game on an ambrosia webboard? Not incredibly intelligent. As stated previously, you can commit software piracy with resedit, but how would you feel about ripping off the people who made something you like? Sorry to sound preachy; it's really none of my business. Enjoy the game however you play it.

It bothered me for a while, but it gave me a little consolation to blow up his ship when he attacked me.
I had to cheat and use a forklift, but it was always fun to watch his lonely escape pod drift away.
I finally registered tho, but you said the plug-ins dont work? maybe they dont work because you're unregistered...

Plug-ins don't work for him because he is on a PC. Not quite sure WHY they wouldn't work if the game does, but that's probably because I have virtually no experience with Windoze computers.
As for the topic at hand: the easiest way to get rid of Hector is to pay for the game. If you enjoy the game, it shouldn't be an issue.

For me Hector isn't an issue. I have 23 million just sitting around and nothing to spend it on, so he's welcome to it...
Hector was certainly annoying...especially the first time he stole my money, but I went through Override pretty quickly and had a UE Cruiser so now I have absolutely nothing to do with all this money! I have the original EV Registered but I never bothered registering Override because I went through it fast.
