Golden Horizon - Part IV

The fighters hyperspace system to system, keeping an eye out for any sign of a nearing pirate base... They jump into another system.. empty.. about to jump out when a scientist at a scanner speaks up..
"I think... I think I'm picking up something..."
"What is it?"
"I dont know.. it could be nothing, but there is a slight energy residue leading into that jumpstream.. could be anything, could be a pirate trail, I just dont know."
"Hmmm lay course to follow that jumpstream"

Under Strict orders from REDchigh, Joint station begins replacing most of the mine weapon space on the Horoth fleet to use SDM's, and 12 Horoth Freightors are being filled with mines and the layers....

Around joint station, a battle plan is being worked out..
Horoth construction is increased, and a message is sent to the Kayans..
So far, there are the 90-something ships, plus about 10 gathered/built/outfitted every post.

Message to: Kayans
The RA and Horoth are preparing for a major assualt to take place in about a week. Haven't been decided to attack Akrahd or Pirates, but will be a very substantial battle. We know that the Kayans attempt peace whenever possible, but to prevent the loss of more lives, this has to be done. We ask for your help. The fleet will be above Joint Station until the last minute. If you refuse to assist our offense, we would still appreciate it if you would expand your patrols into our worlds to prevent a sneak attack and retaliation.
Thank you.

"Reports coming in from the battle in Akrahd," a Militia officer said. "Devistating casualties to both sides. The Akrahd appear to be winning, though with massive casualties. The Igadzra were all but oblitherated. We must send a fleet to help them!"

"We have no place to interfere in the Akrahd-Igadzra war - and the Senate would never support it. Need I remind you that we are a democracy?"

"Of course not - but we need to do something," the officer continued.

"Even if we wanted to, our military is already stretched tight protecting the RA as well as our space. We're a race of scientists, not warriors! We simply don't have the military power to protect the RA from the Pirates and take on the Igadzra as a protectorate at the same time!"

"Then what do we do?"

"I think we have an idea," Lasin replied. "Do we know who is in charge of the Igadzra people?"

"Our information on Igadzra politics is sketchy - they're a very secretive people. We can send a message to their command building though."

"Then open a channel."

"What do you have planned, Commander?"

"I'm not exactly sure, but I trust I can come up with something," Lasin said confidently.

"Okay, channel open."

Message to the Igadzra Command Complex - encrypted
Point of origin - office of Kayan Militia Commander Lasin

Our military is already stretched pretty thin helping the RA recover from Pirate attacks, and our people (and thus the Senate) don't support interference in foreign wars. What we can offer is our hospitality: Our space is open to all Igadzra refugees and we will repair Igadzra ships that come to Kayan ports. If necessary, we can send in a small detachment of ships to tow disabled ships to our space for repair. And any and all Igadzra ships within our space will have our full defense from any Akhrad that attempt to follow.

We are sorry we can't be of further service. If you need extra repair technicians or medical supplies, simply tell us and we will provide what we can. Lasin out.

We have recieved your message requesting military assistance in a strike against either the Akrahd or the Pirates. As you may know, the decision is not up to us, but to the people of our democracy. Under Kayan law, any act of war by the Kayan people must be approved by a majority of our voters. An emergency election has been scheduled tomorrow, and news broadcasts are informing our people on both sides of the conflict and the ramifications of our entry into this conflict. Whether or not we join your offensive depends on how this crucial vote turns out - we'll know in about sixteen hours (OOC - that means in my next post ;))

If our people vote to join your offensive, we will dispatch a fleet to join the assembled ships as quickly as possible. If our people do not vote for the offensive, our patrols of your space will be increased, and defensive fleets will be stationed in RA and Horoth space to protect them while your ships are away on the offensive. We will let you know as soon as the results of the emergency election are in.

(This message has been edited by Thunder (edited 11-07-2001).)

As the scientists were working abort the Savior to make the whg a reliable machine, engineers were upgrading the armament that would protect the Savior in the Andromeda galaxy. The predictions of the whg-council were that only one ship would be able to pass because the sub-space fields would have to be really close to the whg in other to create the longest and most stable worm-hole possible. This meant that it would have to assume its defense alone. Even if it is a big ship, the Savior would not be able to defend it self against a Milky Way size ennemy fleet!

The space that could not be used to supply power or to house any material to be utilized for the whg was transformed into weaponery. Five turrets had been added, four transfered, one Multi-kinetic torpedo turret added and two of the multipurpose docks were to be removed in order to let place ammo storage and more repair pieces for the Sladerei Fighters. Three multi-purpose dock would be fused together to dock permanently tree Destroyers. Six shield emitters would be incorporated to inssure a faster rythm of recharge in foreign territory and in case power from the shielding system would have to be used to aliment the whg system.

The Land Academy had open its doors. The first land troops of the Solidarity are training in some of the harshest palce of Grenits. The formation of this small army, 1200 Sladerei will be supervised by a Federation group, since the last land engagement the Sladerei had occured three centuries ago. The data files research had discovered methods that would be compared to the Greeks... The Land Academy only provides the formation to defend Grenits in case of an ennemy landing, it has a three transports, and will be able to help in case of natural disasters. The formation will be continuous over a year and two weeks a year, the soldiers will have to give their time, like in the Swiss Army.

Also, time is running out for people to vote on whether or not to use the economy report. If you want it, vote for it. If you don't want it, vote against it. The total votes are:

For - 1
Against - 1

Also, I would like to point out that characters who do not post for extremely long periods of time WILL be removed from the story if necissary. Thunder came back, which is good. RMA is on vacation, and Rigadaz has little computer time. Those are good excuses. Excuses like "I forgot about it" are not good. In order to keep GH going, people need to post on a regular basis. If you cannot post much, at least post some to keep up with GH. So far everyone seems to have returned, with the exception of ImmortalFirefly5 and to an extent Rima (who posts, but not often at all).

Finally, who here does not have AIM? I'm wondering this because I wanted to soon start a little GH Discussion Chat on AIM to work on different GH issues, here what people have to say, here complaints, get suggestions, etc. It will take place sometime in the afternoon, but not on Thursday or Sunday.

Days after the failed final assault on the Akrahd homeworld, as the Igadzra continued to mourn for the loss of so many lives, something amazing suddenly appeared in the Cerebrus system...

While patrols were busy in Zeus, the Akrahd sneaked past it and into Cerebrus, dropping off something then running back to Akrahd space...

It was the Templar.

Battered, smashed, and scorched though it was, the Templar was there, real as ever. Inside were the bodies of all its crew, including Sans. But they weren't bloody and lying everywhere; they were all lined up, each in his own coffin (yes, the Akrahd use coffins), in full military honor.

There was also an automated holographic message left on the bridge. It showed Admiral Threckan, the leader of the Akrahd navy. It read one simple message:

"You are indeed worthy warriors. May Rokah be with you."

--------------

OOC: Rokah is the Akrahd Warrior God. Yes, I know it sounds strange for the Akrahd to give such compliments to their enemies, but that's the way the Akrahd culture works. 🙂

The polls throughout Kayan space had been open throughout the night and into the morning, allowing everyone a chance to vote on the emergency election. The topic: whether or not the Kayans would send a fleet to join in the offensive with the RA and Horoth. Turnout had been incredible - over 90% of those eligible to vote did so. Now the polls were closed, and the results coming in. Thunder, who had long been on the far side of the gateway, helping with the efforts in the Milky Way, had returned aboard the Kayan Gunship K.S.S. Illusionary - the Storm had been left on the opposite side ofthe portal in case it should be needed to re-open the gate for some reason.

Thunder watched from the Prime Minister's office, watching as the results accumulated on the viewscreen on the wall. At first he had expected the measure to be defeated by a landslide - but it was not turning out that way. As the votes came in, it became increasingly clear that this would be a very close election; the number of "yes" votes consistently hovered slightly below the 50% mark required to pass the measure. Only the system of Sioron Minor was left - and it's votes were just starting to roll in. Sioron, near the Igadzra and Akrahd border, was more aware of the violence than some of the core systems - Thunder couldn't help but wonder how that would affect their voting.

As the minutes passed, it became clear that Sioron's proximity to the violence had given them a strong desire to stop it - even by means most Kayans would consider "un-traditional". Slowly the "yes" column inched upwards - 48.6%... 49.3%... 49.7%... Slowly but surely it continued to climb, passing the crucial 50% mark and continuing upwards. Thunder continued to watch, completely absorbed in the statistics on the viewscreen.

Finally, he was awakened from his concentration as Kyala tapped his shoulder. "That's the last of 'em, Prime Minister. All the votes are in."

"I can't believe it..." Thunder said, astonishment clear in his voice. "Get the RA and Horoth on the comm. I've got to tell them we'll be joining them." As Thunder stepped over to the comm unit, the final tally flashed on the viewscreen. "Pro-attack: 51.3% - Against attack: 48.7%." The majority of the Kayan people had just approved the counter-offensive.

Point of Origin - New Kayia - Office of the Prime Minister

You're not going to believe it, but our people, though usually defenders of peace, have approved the counter-offensive against either the Pirates (or Ahkrad, as the case may be). The militia is already taking action - a fleet of 50 Gunships, 30 Aradas and 20 fireflies is on it's way to the joint station to join your forces already accumulated there. The remainder of our forces will remain on high alert, with our patrols extending throughout RA space and even into western Horoth space. Our production of the Planetary Defense Drone is complete, and the first ones are just coming off the production lines as I speak. We expect to have enough defense drones to fortify our core systems by the time of the attack, allowing us to allocate more of our ships to patrol RA and Horoth space.

You have the full support of the Kayan Senate and their Prime Minister - May we fare well the upcoming battles, and may we be forgiven for these actions of violence.

Thunder out.

In the Horoth system of Kar'Neth, as Horoth ships patrolled the border, they all wondered what was going on in the battle between the Akrahd and Igadzra. Though the battle was over, news had not yet reached the Horoth fully about the result of the battle.

As the few patrolling ships continued their duties (a lot of the ships had been pulled away to joint station), suddenly, a fleet of 150 Pirate vessels jumped. However, they didn't fire, they just launched dozens upon dozens of large, grey objects at the Horoth then pulled back. The Horoth charged them, but it was too late. The 50 space mines that the Pirates had launched obliterated the Horoth, and then a second wave of mines was launched. The two waves then headed for Kar'Neth itself.

When the barrage of deadly warheads was over, hundreds if not thousands were dead on Kar'Neth. The Pirates then quickly turned around and ran, taking as much sensor readouts of the Horoth Minefields as they could. They had lost almost 20 ships in the assault due to mines, but they would have lost more if they hadn't left; reinforcement fleets were on their way and the defense fleet (at least the ships who didn't get blasted apart by the mines) was launching.

The Pirates scuttled back to their nearest base and waited for the possible counterstrike...

OCC: I am in for the economy report.
IC:

The Solidarity-council and the WHG-council had decided to test what they had done for on the Savior. First, a stellar warm-up and an hyperdrive to DSN-1003, stop all machines, load the kinetic powerplants to the limit that would pblige the whg to work then hyperdirve back in Grenits. Find a not that welcoming fleet, battle, load the kinetic powerplants, hyperdrive back to DSN-1003 and come back to Grenits.

The fleet meeting the Savior in Grenits, will be composed of nive squadrons of Fighters (72), six squadrons of Destroyers (36) and three squadrons of Frigates (12). They might appear from behind Grenits all at once, or receive some reenforment, the Savior's captain did not know. The exercice would take place in five days to let enough time for the scientists to finish immediate work. They will have to come with the Savior in case something went wrong.

In Jaleis's laboratory centers, work had progress for the regeneration of the Sladerei kinetic weaponery. The tachyon emitter had been miniaturized and was able to emitte steadily. The inconvenient was that more energy would have to be use, thus the ship would have to carry one more kinetic capaciator. The tests had worked well and the Tachy-kinetic gun was working.

More powerful, the tachyons sent to the target formed a intermitant dimed grey beam. The color came from the very low space distortion that occures when a tachyon incounters a sub-light speed particle. It damged equally shields and armor since the energy released when a tachyon hits both of them is the same: when it slows down to the speed of light, the dismantlement of the tachyon provoques a distortion. In one week, it will be ready to test on a fighter with his complementary kinetic generator.

The small station had been officially open by Nelson Psack, the members of the Solidarity-council. The shipyards for small ships, fighters and transport, was almost finished. The vaster space-farm building facilities were impressive: 180 meters in radus and thirty meters in heights. In fact, it had been built as teh center piece of teh station: everything would be added to this and the nearby shipyards. The construction would take more time than wished because a high level of toxic matters had been discovered in Grenits's biggest mine. The term "small station" means that not may Sladerei can live in it, it is not in comparison with its size or economic importance.

The Zidagar Civil War was escilating. Yori had been taken by the Isolationists, but then retaken by the Loyalists. Titan had to be abandoned by the Rebels when the Isolationists, but they had to abandoned the system and hand it over to the Loyalists. At that point the Rebels counterattacked and took the system back.

There wasn't a single Zidagar system with the exception of Kedan which hadn't switched owners at least once or twice. Rossoni and Makatee were in complete ruins and dissarray, abandoned by all.

Millions of civillians had been killed or injured. If help didn't come soon, it would be a hopeless situation for the Zidagar...

The tests for the Tachy-kinetic gun had started abort the fighter Wing Seven. During the next week, multiple tests will let the scientists perform additional information to make that weopon one that will make the difference against a more numerous fleet. The statistics (res-edit) had shown that that the armor and shileding damage was of 14. But the addition of the other kinetic capaciator should increase the power of damage to 16. The speed is faster than the speed of light, but does not defy the law that say the other ship will be hit before the shot is launched because when it enter in contact with the shield or armor, the tachyons distegrate and the Ťrealť time comes to 0.

The great excercice had started and the Savior had pass the speed tests with its speed of cruise speed of 80, the travel would be long. The maneuvrability was better with the added lateral thrusters and upgraded engines: it could to a 360 in three minutes, but to come back on its path, another seven minutes had to be counted. The power powered by all kinetic powerplants had been done in thirty minutes and the decharge took more than two hours. The hyperdrive in DSN-1003 went perfectly and so did the departure back to Grenits.

When the Savior hyperdrived out from DSN-1003, a fleet of 80 fighters, 42 destroyers and 24 frigates met them, having seeing the Ťworm-holeť for a few days. They requested immediate surrander. The Savior asked for a meeting but it turned out with a negative answer. The fight started and the Savior launched its torpedoes to the heavier ships and let the fighters to its 24 multi-kinetic turrets and 40 fighters. The three destroyers inboard went to encounter some of the ennemies. The ennemy fleet's destroyed vessels went back to Grenits and came as renforcement, a continuous assault was done on the Savior.

The Savior suffered from heavy losts having its shield, at some points dropping to 100. During the battle, most of its fighters had been destroyed and as well as two destroyers. The good point was that some of the power that was originally created for the WHG had been used to increase the shield. The kinetic powerplants could also refresh the WHG's capaciator, diminishing the time need at the to open the worm-hole. However, once the decision to filled to capaciator to a higher level than the critical point, they added to start the WHG.

We will indeed join your fleet in the raid, but wwe are also scattering our warships about, taking a few shots, and then slipping out. If they get confused enough, they might stop fighting for a day or two, letting us come in and set up some safety zones, especially for the civilians.
end of message sequence

She sent a few Warships and then a few fighters to the raiding fleet, and then poised the rest of the Miranu fleet out side of Zidagar systems. Most of the Warships would stay outside, letting the smaller, faster ships to make peace.

But, effectively, the Warships be safeguards, and if the plan worked, then they would come in, along with Freighters. If it did not work, a full retreat had already been planned, and some of the fleet was still in Miranu space, guarding it some. This plan would either work, or backfire. Helena prayed that it would work.

DSN 3133 system, far outer system

A lone Edien destroyer jumped from slipstream into a previously untraveled part of DSN 3133. Few ever traveled into a system's outer rim for there was nothing really worth exploring. Yet something in this part of the system had warranted a look by the Edien commander of the nearest outpost. There had been a brief but massive burst of subspace before vanishing again. It happened two more times before it got the full attention of the Edien commander and he had dispacthed a destroyer to see what it was.

Aboard the ship, an Edien captain sat at his command chair and ordered for immeiate scans of the area. Privately he was thinking that this had better be worth his time, because he wanted to get back to the front lines. The sensor officer soon reported in on something, her voice essatic. The captain ordered it on the veiwing screen and even he gasped...or whatever Ediens did when amazed. Before them was a massive stable supspace rupture in normal space...or in lamen terms a wormhole. It swirled about into its infinty, and its interrior was a swirling hue of ebon black and emerald green.

The captain ordered all information to be sent back to the outpost...but before he could give the orders, his sensor officer panicked. He soon saw why as fifty-one ships suddenly appeared on screen. They had been hiding under a stealth field but were ready...with weapons charged. Fifty ships were registered as Kiran Blades and Stalkers, while the remaining one was the biggest threat. It was one of the two commonwealth battlecruisers that had come to Kayia some time ago. The Edien was about to order full retreat when the Kiran ships started firing. The captain instead ordered a full attack run towards the nearest ship...a Kiran Blade. The Blade was gone soon as it was not entirely up to a Edien destroyer. Things turned for the worst though. During the brief fire fight, five ships had gotten near the destroyer...one of them was the battlecrusier.

Twenty seconds later there was nothing left of the destroyer beyond scattered debris and burning wreckage. The Kiran ships were nowhere to be seen though. All that remained was the debris of two ships one Kiran and one Edien and the massive wormhole.

"Sir! Our destroyer has lost conatct. We belive it has been destroyed." The commander knew something was wrong.
"Dispatch squadren 12. Put a holocam on each figher."
"Yessir!"
--------
The small squadren of 10 interceptors came out of slipstream into the system of DSN-3133. They saw nothing out of the ordinary until one of thier sensors picked up a huge tear in space. The holocam turned and caught sight of it. The fighter sent the info back to the station, which agreed to send a small fleet of 13 destroyers and 3 BC's to investagate. Meanwhile they were told to stay away from it.
--------
The small fleet arived in the system. They slowly flew to the hole in space. Suddenly a missile from behind a fighter made its pilot jump. His hand hit the control stick hard and the fighter went spinning into the hole. Meanwhile the other ships had turned to see the 51 ships. All fire was concentrated on the commonwealth ship. After an hour, it slowly lost control and exploded. But it itself had taken a BC, 8 desrtoyers, and 7 fighters. They now had only 1 inerceptor, 4 destroyers and a BC. They all attacked everything but it was to much. The Kiran had won with 39 ships left.
--------
The commander was outraged. He told 20 destroyers, 6 BC's, and 20 fighters to go on standby and the second the station heard from the lost fighter that fell into the hole to attack the fleet that lay out there.
