I'm posting this here to inform all the EVO fans out there that the (url="http://"http://uevorpg.cjb.net")Ultra EVO RPG(/url) is about to restart!
Ever wanted to play multi-player EVO, but realize that it will probably never be a reality? The Ultra EVO RPG is just about the next best thing. Here's what the RPG website has to say (okay, it's mostly from the website - I modified it a bit :)): "Ultra EVO RPG is the original text based multi-player RPG based on Ambrosia's Software's space fantasy game Escape Velocity: Override. Players take control of a fighter wing of 10 crescent fighters and become part of an independent Mercenary Fleet (MF) that will fly for any government that offers them a chance for missions, challenge, and glory. Players choose their mission strategy, and then game admins code all the variables into a custom made battle simulator and run the missions based on the choices of the players. The mission writers post the results in a narrative that describes what took place in each mission (storytime, everyone! ;)). Players use the prestige (like credits) and experience they gain each mission to replace ships lost in battle or upgrade to better ships. The choices of the players determine mission outcomes and often will result in the story line branching off into different directions - which means the actions of even a single player can affect the course of the game. The MF may split into different directions, offering the player options on which mission strings to follow. The players also often need to work as group to discuss strategy."
To answer a potential question - no, this is not the same as the uEVO RPG that Captain Scurvy ran. This is the same UEVO RPG that Blazer started over two years ago (if you've ever played the plug-in Journey MF, this RPG is what it was based on.) It ran for over 80 weekly missions - and kept going for more than a year and a half before Blazer decided he no longer had the time to devote to running it, leaving the RPG in a state of limbo. Now, thanks to the efforts of several veteran players it's about to reset and restart. The first mission runs on November 11 - new players will be able to sign up until November 8th. (You can still sign up after that, you'll just miss out on the very first mission.) Since this is a full reset everyone will be starting out on an even playing field - new players who join up will be starting with just the same ships and experience as veterans who have been around since the very beginning.
One of the best things about the RPG is that you can put in as much time as you want - or as little as you have available. There is enough to the RPG to keep you entertained for hours, but you only need to put in a minimum of around 20 minutes each week to play. Simply read over the current mission, send in a Join/Change form to create or update your player stats, and wait for the mission results to be posted. It's that easy. If you have more time on your hands, try strategizing an attack plan for the upcoming mission, or hang out in the RPG chat room, or test out your writing talent on the never-ending stories (these three things are optional, of course). You might even win the coveted Purple Donkey Award! Trust me - it's fun.
If you're interested in signing up, or have questions about the RPG, find out more on the RPG site at (url="http://"http://uevorpg.cjb.net")http://uevorpg.cjb.net(/url) , or drop by the UEVO RPG discussion board at (url="http://"http://stuartsda.his.com/webbbs")http://stuartsda.his.com/webbbs(/url) .

Honestly, it doesn't seem too scary, despite Thunder's long speech.

Sounds cool! I'll check it out.
(edit) Hey, I just checked it out and wanted to join. How (i)exactly do you register all the information? Like the thing about ship type and mission stuff? If you could post again with that info I'd be glad to try to join again. Thnx!

Hey Ford, you should come back. It'll be just like the old days--literally.

All you have to do is use the join/change form and make sure its set to "joining the RPG," not "making changes." The current string is MF-R, and you have to use the cover strat for the first mission. Everyone starts with a wing of Crescent Fighters at the start.
If you have further questions, just ask on the discussion board. I guarentee that they will be answered; the folks at UEVO are cool & very helpful towards new people.

If anyone else out there is interested in joining the UEVO RPG, be sure to do so by tomorrow if you want in for the first mission. You'll be able to join after that, but you will miss the first mission. Join/Change forms (which can be found on the RPG website at (url="http://"http://uevorpg.cjb.net")http://uevorpg.cjb.net(/url) ) for the first mission are due tomorrow night!

What does "mission string" mean on the registry form thingy?

That's a good question. At the moment, not much of anything. It's for later on in the RPG when players will be able to split into various storylines (otherwise known as mission strings). Right now, everyone is doing the same mission, so it doesn't really apply just yet.
