Frozen Heart Black Hole Mission

Well, I guess I just am too stupid to figure out how do deliver the bomb. If I live, the Black Hole survives, if I kill the Black Hole, I get toasted. I've tried high speed, low speed, reverse, veering away, etc. Do I just suck? What's the proper technique?

All of the above. No, I'm not kidding.

Dang. Does everyone share this view?

For the most part. You gotta be able to make a run, deliver the bomb close, and not be close when it blows. It took me about 10 tries with it (maybe less, don't remember), but it is doable. You just have to be patient. You'll get it eventually. Good luck!

The mission is insanely tough, and not easy to finish successfuly on the first try. My strategy is to line up my Tachyon fighter and rush the black hole at top speed (this is important because otherwise, in my experience, the black whole will kill you as you pass, and the faster you go the faster the bomb goes as well) and time the release of the IMP Bomb at just the right time to kill it and count on good timing & speed to keep me alive. I like to hold down the auto-pilot key as I approach, so I approach the black hole in what amounts to a straight line. I've had good success doing it this way. Sometimes though asteroids do get in the way, and I have to do it over. Asteroids mess up the mission for me more than death does. Timing is key, but you need some luck too. If luck doesn't prevail, just reload your pilot file and keep doing it until you get it right. You should get it before too long, hopefully.

I found that firing the IMP missile then turing around and using some afterburner helps get away from the blast. Worked for me.

Yeah, Iron Fist. Fire an IMP missile, it catches the black hole's attention, so to speak.

I couldn't really do it in the end. I just cheated. Okay, I admit it - happy? <smiles> It's a difficult mission, and I didn't have the time. One day, I'll do it. I have to admit, it's difficult in an Icax...

Word.

Well, geez, that would be your problem. An Icax? Gimme a break, Esponer, this plug is built for the Tachyonic Fighter. And cheated? clucks I beat it without cheating, and I'm not a very good EV:O player. Just kidding, man. But I did beat it without cheats, and you should be able to, too. It just took about 10-15 min. 😄

Exactly. That's why I use an Icax. And I know I shouldn't have cheated. I'll do it sometime. Sometimes, however, the boredom gets above the challenge, and at that point, I wanted to finish the plot, not sit around trying to blow the thing to Hell.

speaking of cheating on tough plugins dealing with organs...

Do any of you have a good pilot file i could use for frozen heart? My computer keeps on running into problems with critical missions (or i get the 3@#$ plague.) i just ned to feel the tachyon fighter in motion...

Read the included ReadMe files, Temporal, and you may find that you may be falling victim to the QuickTime bug. If so, follow the directions in the ReadMe. This is an EV:O bug, and the only way to fix it for Frozen Heart is to remove all the movies from the Plugins folder, I believe. But the read the included documentation, that will tell you all you need to know. 😄
