I certainly hope you all know that you where not the first here. Long before this UBB monstosity, long before karma, there was the Disc Board.
Andy. Skunko7. BombCat. Mazca. Blazer. So many others...
If I were to ask about Jos Delbar, would you shudder or cheer? If I were to ask about nash, would you know how to react? We were broken up by a catastrophe, many never to hear from each other again. The Mods you know now are upstarts, newbies compared to them. We had no karma. If you screwed up, you were banned. Period. The respected people were not earmarked my karma, nor were the offenders. Rember, that every day, new people join, and one day, these mods will be gone, and you will too will be an old, grizzled veteran, bitter for "better times". I am by no means inciting rebellion, that would be irresponsible. Just remember the old addage: "Remember those from whence you came." ....This is the first post of a phoenix, risen from the ashes.... (Okay, this makes me sound like a jerk. I promise, I'm not.) ------------------ -MacCabe, the original Wild Goose drgo@mail.com

I remember all of those people. Mazca is a mod at the Developer's Board. nash was, well, nash.
"Catastrophe"? Please. Our world changed. People bitched and moaned when it did. Some people didn't, and dealt with it.

cough Oh really? And just what, pray tell, am I?

Alright! At least we've got you, EVula. Is the webring still going strong? I didn't mean to come off THAT negative, just merely to set my character as the bitter old timer. It's good to see some familiar faces. By the way, does Ford still talk in 3rd person?

Yeah, we know all about Moki. Somehow, I don't think you've got anything to do with "from whence we came".
Sure, you may have been around the discboards, but that's no reason to have an ego problem.
And by the way, this should have been posted in B&B;, or preferably, nowhere.
Thanks, Esponer
------------------ Word.
Once more, apologies are in order. I still have a lot to learn, and hopefully, I could do the oldsters proud. Who was I? An insignificant little poster named Yajirobe. But that is not the topic. I realize that I have errored, and thus I will strive to be a kindler, gentler, poster. Heh. I got chewed out.

And long before the DiscBoard, there was the original escape-velocity.com WWWBoard. Neither of them compared to the new system.
Originally posted by MacCabe: If I were to ask about Jos Delbar, would you shudder or cheer?
During the time I knew of him, he was better than Mason Sims, although I understand he become problematic after my second departure.
Originally posted by MacCabe: If I were to ask about nash, would you know how to react?
No, he came between my last departure and my most recent return.

And before Mason Sims had Jay Tingley implement IP bans ("The Empire has a good dental plan" - anyone remember where that's from? ), they didn't really have any way whatsoever to enforce the rules other than deleting posts. There weren't even user accounts - anyone could post under any name they wanted to. Anyway, welcome back to the boards, MacCabe.

No offense meant, fella, but who cares?

And, of course, there was the old EV discussion list.

Heh. The 'good ol days'. Crazy, that. If you're looking for more of an old-time feel, check out Blazer's board (url="http://"http://stuartsda.his.com/evo/")here(/url)... Good to see some oldies come back! -david-

And I hope you know it gets rather tiresome for people of the old boards to pop back once in a great while to show their 'oldieness'
Andy.
Haven't seen him in a while, or maybe I haven't been paying attention.
Skunko7.
He still pops up every now and then on the Banter and Brawl. I'm sure you can find him and some of the other oldies on the #ev on afternet.
BombCat.
Goes by Bomb and has been giving in a hand on the Nova project.
Mazca.
Stil around, on the developers board tho, along with Blackhole.
Blazer.
Following the death of the old boards, he and others had migrated to his alternative board that is still around today.
If I were to ask about Jos Delbar, would you shudder or cheer?
I'd be rather apathetic about what he did and how he left, like I've always been.
If I were to ask about nash, would you know how to react?
I'd wonder who in their right mind would want to remember him, I'm glad he is gone.
We were broken up by a catastrophe, many never to hear from each other again.
No, we were not. The boards were relinked to this current board. You either remained posting or went to one of the alternative boards.
The Mods you know now are upstarts, newbies compared to them.
Well, considering that Chamrin , EVula , Micah L , blackhole , Mazca , mburch (Matt Burch), Frandall , ShadeofBlue , ElGuapo7 , Bomb (Bombcat, whom you mentioned) and myself (Soviet, mikeeJ..etc) were posting back in those days and remember the old boards well, it is apparent your memory is not clear.
We had no karma. If you screwed up, you were banned. Period. The respected people were not earmarked my karma, nor were the offenders. Rember, that every day, new people join, and one day, these mods will be gone, and you will too will be an old, grizzled veteran, bitter for "better times".
Exactly how are the boards worse then they were back then? The people of the board make up just as strong a community as back then. I've been around for years, and unlike may of the oldies today, I never left to come back. I've been a regular here for a long time, seeing it all.
I am by no means inciting rebellion, that would be irresponsible. Just remember the old addage: "Remember those from whence you came." ....This is the first post of a phoenix, risen from the ashes.... (Okay, this makes me sound like a jerk. I promise, I'm not.)
Memories usually seem alot more postive and fun then what actually took place. That's why so many adults wish to be children, when childhood, flat sucks.

I call it the "Oldie syndrome". Many people returning here for the first time in a year or so seem to get it.
It seems to me that these "oldbies" are just another form of "newbie". But don't worry, MacCabe, you'll get the hang of this place.
This board is a little controlled. If you want something slightly more anarchistic, try B&B.;
Originally posted by MacCabe: ** By the way, does Ford still talk in 3rd person? **
Ford doesn't come around much anymore, at least not that I can tell. He used to be in Blazer's UEVO RPG, but left that about six months ago. Up to that point, yes, he did still talk in third person.
As for his sporadic, more recent appearances... I'm not really sure if he usually uses third person or not.
------------------ Ad Astra Per Aspera - "A rough road leads to the stars"
He left uEVO RPG too, didn't he?
As for a couple things and locations that weren't answered:
The last I heard of Jos Delbar he sometimes tells xmatt and Skyhawk that he's "very busy" and will be helping them with AEON when he isn't "very busy".
And every so often nash pops up on SL or on Jericon's DiscBoard (virtually dead though) with something to state. His website is kept pretty up-to-date however.
I'm still around, though I went by a different name then... LOL... Actually, it'd be more accurate to say that I'm back around, since I was on EV-hiatus for about two years.

Heya yajirobe. It's good to see yet more of the old community returning, though I must say, as others have, that you were a bit insulting to the new. There are new people here that are just as good and decent as the oldbies, when they were semi-newbies. Just adapt, it's worth it.
To whoever said oldbies are just kind of like newbies, I have been around since whenever I joined, 1996 or 1997, I think, and have been on the EVO board since it began, and on the Ambrosia UBBs since they began. I'm not a newbie to anything but EVN (considering it doesn't exist yet... ). Ah, it was you, SilverDragon. I am reminded of a funny quote said by moki, which may or may not apply here: "I have stuff stuck in my teeth that is older that you!" (paraphrased)
To sum up this post: welcome back, people of old, welcome, decent people of new.

Heh. You said it. Oh, and welcome to the board Mac.

I must say 'yajirobe' vaguely triggers a memory, but I can't remember anything about you. You seem to have made several people pretty annoyed! However, as I was listed on your original post I can hardly complain.
Welcome (back) to the boards.

You are right, MacCabe/Yajirobe this post does make you sound like a jerk, as others have pointed out. I don't remember you posting like that in the dim distant past, but then I don't remember much about you but your screen name.
Welcome back.
