OK I'm completely new here and I've just started playing EV:O. I'm finding it difficult though (laugh at me!) because I'm finding it really hard to land. I always seem to overshoot the planet and be going too fast. I've been reading a bit around here and I seem pathetic - but does anyone have any tips for me?

Well, there's not much to say.
Getting the hang of flying sometimes takes some getting used to. I remember the first time I played Escape Velocity, it took around a minute for me to successfully land my shuttle. Just mess around with your controls for awhile, practice spinning your ship and slowing it down, and you should be all set in no time. That's all I can really say on the subject...

Observations:
Ā People don't tend to readily admit they are a "newbie". Ā People who are so new to EV:O that they can't even land aren't exactly likely to know of Proxima Presley, one of the human renegade leaders. Ā People who've just started out on the boards rarely know how to use UBB code.
In answer to the question at hand, either a) practice a little, or consult your real persona on the boards.

How do you get dospect armor? I think I've completed the Paaren station bit (I don't get missions for that any more, so I think I've completed it...) and I still can't get the armor anywhere. Is there any other way? And, is there any way to get Bronev plating without playing the Voinian missions, such as capturing one of their planets? Thanks.
First of all, it's good to see help being given so openly - I guess I was just a bit late. Welcome once more though.. and I would agree on turning before you get to the planet - if you come towards it facing away from it, slowing down is all you can do.
And for the latest one.. it should be available at Paaren Station when you've finished the missions - by which I mean you have done 4 or 5 deliveries to the station, then been asked to rescue the defector once again, then escorted him back to Paaren Station - incidentally that escort mission gives you some quite nice escorts of your own who will stick around until you complete the mission, and are useful for other missions, i.e. dreadnought, etc. :). And no, you can't get Bronev without going Voinian - if you capture their one planet that actually sells it, it will only allow you to buy the basic things - doing their missions sets 'bits' in place, or something.. :).

OK, this is where I always get confused. If Bronev plating is the more powerful one (which I believe it is), the only way to get it is to do the Voinian mission string. As for the Dospect armor, just look (url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/~dsghosh/evosite/missionsuemil.html#paarenstation")here(/url) and see if you've completed all the missions listed there under the Paaren Station mission string. If you have, Dospect armor should be available at Paaren station.

Thanks, all. I used to only have 10,000 credits because I couldn't do anything ( :frown:) buit now I've got around 200,000 from playing for about 10 minutes. Again, thaks for all your help

Welcome to the boards Presley... I wouldn't post with this name but it seemed kind of appropriate.
Keep in mind the backwards(ish) key which turns your ship to the opposite direction of your motion... this is handy for landing. If you don't know what it is check it in the prefs section.

When you get to the crescent, help the Azdgari so you can get an Azdara... now those can be hard to land at first... heheh

Proxima, pick between the Cargo Transporter and the Scoutship first. It's a hard choice. Note that the Hatuli system (southwest of Sol) is deadly with renegades, but great for trading. If you take it, have 6 Cargo Transporter escorts, and you can clean the system out in seconds.
And when you fight Voinians, remember sometimes good control of a UE fighter is better than even a UE carrier.
