Graphics question

I using Meowx's EV:O Magma and it's really cool. The problem is that thet ships don't look solid. I've tried the ship lightener and it help some. Is this problem fixable or just the way it Magma works?

That's just MAGMA. The graphics were created dark, and that's the way they should be. I believe David said something about this being intentional, since there are more darker shades of color in 8bit format...

EV MAGMA's graphics seem to be somewhat brighter.

Yeah, they're dark, which is why I don't enjoy MAGMA as much as normal EV:O. Add on the fact that my computer tends to make everything darker, what you get are invisible ships attacking you, and you have ot squint to see which way you're actually facing. It wasn't worth it for me, so I swapped back. Not for everyone, I suppose. shrugs It's nice-looking, just a bit dark for me.

Wow, haven't been to this board in a while. Now, what do you mean by "not solid"? As in, 'you can sometimes see through parts of the ship you shouldn't when you're on a planet'? If that's what you're talking about, it's because I did EVO MAGMA back in the day when I didn't make real masks - just crapmasks™ that sometimes look crappy. If you're refering to something else, they by all all means elaborate!

I rather like Magma; the ships definitely look more realistic than in stock EV:O. I don't like the perspective on it, though -- it'd be really nice if the people (or person or whatever) behind Meowx could re-render the ships with a flat overhead view perspective, at least to give people a choice.

Also, the needle missile is too hard to see. I finally removed the picts (and spďns) for that entirely from my copy of it because I just couldn't see the blasted things, so I'd hear the sound of launching and see little explosions around my ship but that's it.

Other than that, the ships look great. I bet they'd look even better in EVNova's 16-bit color.

Same here. I replaced the MAGMA needle missile sprites with the original Override ones, since you really couldn't see them.

I've noticed that on my grandma's iMac i can barely see the ships in Magma but on my machine the graphics look great, i can see everything from needle missles to every ship. Maybe its just the monitor that makes all the difference.

(just for the technical, i have a SuperMac monitor that is like 22 inches or something, its pretty big)

Finally, someone sees the light (literally)! Everything looks fine on my Apple Studio Display (and this is an old school one, not one of those new bright flat panels), I'd be interested to know what kind of monitors people have and how dark MAGMA is on them...

I tried MAGMA on the built-in video of a 5500-series Mac. Everything was visible, though I didn't spend any time in the galactic south during the time MAGMA was installed, so I can't vouch for the clarity of needle missiles. I didn't need to add the plug for lighter graphics. Furthermore, I keep the brightness pretty low on that machine, in accordance with the setup procedure demanded by Riven and Exile.

Hope that helps.

On my iMac and two G3s (which both have 21" ViewSonic moniters), MAGMA is extremely dark. I have a hard time seeing many of the vessels and weapons, although MAGMA for EV is a big improvement in terms of brightness...
