Rooster's Law, the cornerstone for most modern webstories, recieved a new and much needed revision today. The following is an account of all three revisions which can be used with due credit. Questions about Revision 3 or any other WDC practices may be addressed in this topic.

The WDC lawbook is the result of the past three publisher conferences and deserves a good glance from any writer, WDC affiliated or not.

Yes. I don't care for rooster's laws, I believe every webstory has a right to create its own rules. Its just not something that can or should be standerdized.
As usual, rooster just wants to make himself feel important. Ignore it.

When has anyone done the opposite. Oh and you do bring up a good point OctoberFost, webstories could have their own rules. Now if people could just get off their rear ends and make them...

Saying as I don't follow the whole "web story" thing, I'm saying this as an outsider: nothing personal, but it seems that no one gives a rat's ass about your "laws", roostersw. Now, before you take that as a bad thing, keep in mind that I'm all for making your personal preferences as a standard; just look at what I've done with (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/")the Lair(/url) (I once saw a site that said "Welcome to the wannabe EVula's Lair"). However, I've yet to see any evidence that anyone follows your "standards"; quite the opposite, it seems that everyone kind of resents them.
Just my opinion.

Rooster's Law is ok. Everyone just doesn't like it because he throws it in everyones faces. Mostly everyone uses some form of it, but that's not because there his. it's because their obvious rules.

Hmm, kinda like me calling the online version of the EV and EVO Bibles (which can be found (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/ev_bible/")here(/url) and (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/evo_bible/")here(/url) :)) mine just because I added some formatting to them. I understand.
However, in his defense, he has every right to say that they are "his" rules, as they weren't taken from a previously copywritten source (as my example about the Bibles was); however, it is kind of lame to MAKE people cite those rules.
Nice to see you posting, EVula. By the way, may I please flame Rooster? Pretty please?
Sorry, lost control there for a moment.

Can you say anything without putting (url="http://"http://www.evula.com")your site(/url) in it?
These laws are useful if you can't make your own, but if you're going ot make a webstory why not write some rules for it? Every webstory is different, and they don't all work well with these laws.

Interesting how when people pointlessly complain that they use both sides of the non-argument. Why would you bitch both because 'everybody uses them' as well as that 'people can make up their own rules'?
Rooster's Law is only called what it's called to honor the first webstory that used it, and yes, it's producer. I don't think updating the name of the capitol with each passing president would make much sense, do you? Make the comparison...
Sheesh!
The fact that you haven't changed your name doesn't make you right. It makes you look even dumber. I still don't understand the point.

My opinion; Rooster's Law is a good basis for a webstory, but if you don't want to use it, then don't use it. It's not like Rooster is saying "YOU MUST ALL USE MY RULES OR ELSE!!!". He's just posting it here because some webstories, like GH, rely on a set of rules that are based on Rooster's Law.
Of course, on the other side of the argument, Rooster did act a little full of himself in one or two sentences about his law. He also has a habit of acting like everyone loves his law, but a lot of the time everyone hates it (thought a lot of those times the reasons for disliking them are unjustified). I also pretty much agree with Anatole.
Overral, I say this; if you don't want to use Roosters law, don't use it. Don't have to, and you have no obligation to listen to anything that Rooster says really. Of course, it doesn't mean you can't use his laws, because they are quite good for webstories.

Of course...and nothing can be so simple that the first time somebody drafts it they don't deserve credit in their own field. If you would like, I can rename the law to something WDC. I only decided not to at first because the 'WDC Lawbook' is something rather different. If you would also like, I can merge the two and make the whole thing simply a reference produced by the WDC conferences. Though, i'm not sure even the laws being something you produce yourselves would stop you from complaining.
I welcome any requests for these solutions or other ones.
WDC conferences
Wha...? Are you taking a conversation you had with your pet and calling it a conference, or what? Who is at these conferences?
It's a discussion over an AIM chat room with figureheads of the webstory community. You can view the third invitational conference here: (url="http://"http://www.roostermac.net/wdc/thirdwdc.htm")http://www.roosterma...dc/thirdwdc.htm(/url)
As you can see, while it's a very strict and clean-cut voting procedure, all attenders vote towards the lawbook. Rooster's Law is not only chosen by these, but by the entire registered WDC board group.
