Let me tell you right straight and now. NEVER ask these questions.. It is the best way to peeve the moderators. They're going to point you to some web-board guidelines page that'll bore your eyes out and lock the topic up. Karma is just some dumb way of rewarding you that really doesn't matter at all. Just be a good boy, and stay out of the moderator's gait.
Nuff said.

What is karma? Here is the answer:

No reason to point him to a web-board guidlines page, you've summed it up pretty well right there.
Just to elaborate a bit, though: "stupid" isn't a good adjective to use for the karma system (Alien 5672, I'm looking at you... :p), don't ask a moderator to raise your karma, don't complain about karma drops (unless its a legit reason), and most importantly, just don't be an idiot. Idiocy never helps karma.
As for the topic being locked, good guess!
