They tick me off - I have never been able to land there and find out what the heck is there. In the FAQ, it says that it is a storyline for plugin developers to expand on. I think that's a nice way of saying it's there to drive people crazy wondering what is there.
Example: (for you Diablo II fans) The Battle.net chat gem. Just a conversation piece.
Anyway, if I am wrong about this, please enlighten me before I lose the rest of my marbles.
Yup, unless you play a plug-in that deals with it in some way ( Beyond the Crescent or Secession , for example), the Council is simply a mystery to wonder about. So you can keep your marbles.

You could always try taking them over... that's worth a try.

Ahhh.... I always wondered what the hell that gem did. After all that pondering, it's a herring??? damnit. Well, thanks for telling me
Oh.... and welcome to the boards! It's good to see new faces!

Does anyone remember the 'Dork ring' magic artefact in The Bard's Tale? (Successful but poor quality fantasy RPG for ST and Amiga, circa 1987.)

before my time that... anyway, Council Station was really put in as a topic for future plug-ins, such as BtC
------------------ OOh, arrr! It's Ambrosia(aar)!!! If anyone needs a story guy to help with a plug-in, i can help: mission breifings and description for outfits, ships, planets etc. e-mail davee-p@talk21.com
If you reaaaaalllly wanna land there just scan mission computers everywhere. Once in a while you will find a mission to the council station, but you will be sorely dissapointed at the description. (ie. no secret doomsday device or anything) You get to blow it up in Beyond the Cresent though
About the gem for D2, it seems it was used for something that didn't work (which alot of ppl think) some think way back in like version 1.1 they tried to make it do something (some think out of game trading) but it made it crash, version 1.1 made the multi game unplayable untill they released the new ver. Of course this is all rumor.

I know this is off topic, but...

From what Blizz says, the gem is functioning exactly as it was meant to...which makes me believe that they have a sick sense of humor and want to see how many people push that little button.

They get mad when I do that... Has anyone actually dominated that station with an original EVO ship? Ubermegadestructoships don't count. What did you do to take it over (besides the flood-the-system-with-fighters trick)?
More off topic -- Is the wine you can get in Avernum and Realmz also a red herring? I just always have my main character drink it and stumble around. Hmm...

Another kinda off topic question.Where can I get Beyond the Crecent?(you were talking about it earlier) and all those other plugs like Frozen heart and Feme fatel.

No, you only get to blow up Kade station (I think that's how it's spelled), to open the link to the hidden arm of the galaxy.

A few people have bragged to have done it. They say it took hours... I believe them; I mean, look at the losers on this board (just kidding)

There's a mission in realmz where you have to bring wine to someone. Maybe that's in a different scenario. In Bywater, the Wine is only to tell you that ummm.... Waterford exists. The cook guy you can visit in Bywater hints about the origin of the wine, and from there you're supposed to go off in search of the good ol' sunken city.

An Azdara might work, I've never tried, though.

I believe them too...a quick look at the defense fleet numbers for Council Station using ResEdit revealed that the DefCount is 32755. If I understand that correctly, that means 2,275 ships in waves of 5. That means you have to kill 2,275 Crescent Warships and 6,825 Crescent Fighters (unless you bribe them - I don't know if that would even work, but it would cost a heck of a lot of money). That's a total of 9,100 ships. Hours sounds about right. I think I will stick with dominating the renegade systems.
Dominate renegade systems and if you worked with the UE and completed the UE Central Objective. Dominate all the Voinion systems because if you get the plug-in F-25,it shuts the systems out but you will still get paid.

I got a mission there once the description sorta went like this: your cargo is unloaded entirely by robots. you feel that someone does not want you here." it was strange.

In reference to my advice to you in the Interstellar Travel thread, this would be the kind of addendum to an old topic you wouldn't want to make.

I took over Council Station in a UE Cruiser with a rather large fleet of escorts. After wasting about five hours of my time on this earth, I found that for the effort, the station is a huge rip-off! If I remember correctly, you only get paid somewhere between 1,000, and 3,000 credits per day   .

Calm down Rooster. Leave him alone
You get that few credits for Council Station because its TechLevel is low, I think.
