What will happen to EVO!

Nova is going to come out sooner or later. With the promis of better graphics more ships etc. will everyone migrate to it and forget EVO and EV?

Yeah.

If you have any complaints about my behaviour please direct them to a brick wall.

I believe EV is better than EVO. I only frequent EVO boards because I played that most recently. When EVN comes out, I'll not even visit it for half a year. After that still only a little - the EVO boards are my home, and EV I'm sure will in my mind remain the best EV series. I don't know why, it just will.

Is EV still kicking? I didn't know anyone actually played that anymore. When I miss the kestrel or something, I just make a plugin that gives me the ship, or aliens that kick butt on the Voinians and UE alike... hehe

------------------

EV and EVO won't die, but the focus of plug-in development is going to shift heavily toward Nova beause of the awesome capabilities of its engine. EV/O will still be played, though. EV will always be a classic, and there are some good plugs for EVO that people will probably still go back to.

What I think would be awesome would be if both EV and Override were ported to Nova, and then enhanced with new missions and the like so people can experience them under Nova's engine....imagine taking on the Alien Crusier or Voinian Dreadnought with Nova's AI, or crafting together new misson possibilities for either universe that could previously only be dreamed of. Anyway, we'll see.

Games as good as EV and Override never wear out. I still play both games, although EV would be my overall preference (mainly because of Galactic Scourge, but they're coming out with versions of that for EVO and even EVN when it's released). Still, I'll probably download EVN as fast as possible.

Actually, I think that EVO is better than EV, but I wont sidetrack this topic into that debate. EVN and EVO (and EV I guess) will be almost equally popular (with the majority of popularity in EVN). I personally will play EVO till I ethier get really sick of both it and its plug-ins, or I become completely engrossed in EVN. In the both cases, I'd probably end up playing EVO again after a while.

Why?

Someone was saying they were developing a tool to port plugins, and that there was one out for Ev to port to EVO...

You definitely can convert EV plugins to EV:O ones. I encountered that capability in one of the editors or utilities a couple of years ago. (Can't remember which.) Be warned though, it's a unidirectional conversion.

Personally, I have stopped playing EV because I prefer the universe of EV:O with its greater number of potential allegiances. I know some folks like the rebels versus all-powerful government theme, though.

Unfortuately, the editor happens to be EVEdit, which is... 'very' buggy.

I have stopped playing EV as well, except I sometimes go back to it to play a good ol' plugin. I excpect the same thin will happen to EVO. EVN will definitely be getting much more attention than EV/O though.

Umm, I got a stupid question, but it's on topic, sorta, so I'm gonna ask it. Considering that happened with that Wand game Ambrosia came out with, that they put it on a CD, who says they're gonna let you d'l EVN? Maybe they've said they will, but from seeing Ambrosia's tendancy towards CDs I get the distinct feeling we're gonna have to go to the store to play Nova.

Andrew Welch has said several times on the Nova board that although final distribution plans have not yet been made, it will ~probably~ be downloadable, although it will also be on the Ambrosia CD for people whose modems can't handle a game that's over 60 MB uncompressed.

As for Ferazel's Wand, it wasn't put on CD so that they could sell it in stores. In fact, they don't sell it on stores. They put it on CD because the game was just too big for most people to download. The demo that they distribute online contains everything that you would be able to do in the unregistered version, anyway. The only difference is that when you register Ferazel's Wand, you have to wait for them to mail you a CD of the full version.
