Alright I was wondering since i don't really like it that much I wanted to know others opinions about it. First of all when do you use it (example) when you getting shot up and you wanna get away). Second don't you think its just a waste of fuel. And third what do you do if you have a ship and you wanna change it but you have the cloaking device on it, I don't know about you people but I change my ship about 3 times a day. Anything else you can thing of just add it in.
Quite a mouthful.
1. Don't use the cloaking device under fire, unless you have an opening (which is rare under fire). It'll drop you're shields and probably kill you a bit faster.
2. Actually, the cloaking device is one of the most useful devices in the game. Especially if making runs to hostile territory.
3. Get a plug-in that allows you to keep or buy back the cloaking device at (url="http://"http://www.escape-velocity.com/addons.html")http://www.escape-ve...com/addons.html(/url) . I don't really view this as cheating.

It's not so much cheating as altering a game design decision that many users disagree with.

If you have escorts, the cloak is incredibly useful for dominating planets. The defense ships, when they cannot see you, will sit still and not fire at anything, even while your escorts are tearing them to shreds.

Yes, claoking causes your enemies to stand still and lets your escorts blow them up... but, then you have to uncloak to let the second wave come, then lather, rinse, repeat. etc, etc. Eventually you'll run out of fuel, and die of boredom.
Anyway.... cloaking while you're under fire is not a good idea at all. Because, any shot that hits you while you're cloaked will undo your cloak.... and all your shields will be gone and you'll be in the middle of hostile ships. Now, normally, you wouldn't be targeted when you're cloaked, but you can still be targeted right before you cloak... thus, cloaking while under fire == bad idea.

In a combat situation, if your shields are already gone, you might as well try to cloak. Assuming that you can find the right key in time - it isn't used often!
The cloaking device is useful against swarms of fighters. Cloak, fly to the edge of the swarm where a single fighter has its back to you, uncloak and give it a dispersal rocket and a burst of phase cannon fire. (Then cloak again when all his mates converge on you.) With decent fuel tanks and scoops, you should be able to avoid running out of fuel... providing you don't delay between kills. It may be necessary to 'Python the fighter swarm, cloaking only when they get close.
I don't weep too much when I change ships and lose the device though... it's not nearly as much fun as having a plasma siphon.

Actually if you are in a voinian ship it is really useful because losing your sheilds is not that big of a thing. It is very helpful in escaping a situation that is going to ice you. Give an afterburner a push and cloak.
