The ideal starship - post here

I'm sure everyone who reads these boards frequently has some idea of the starship that they ultimately go for in EVO. There are plenty of missions that will simply cream you if you don't have the right ship and the right outfits for it. Can you take on a pirate fleet using just a UE destroyer, straight from the naval yards at New Tokyo? Doubtful.

That's what this topic is for. If you have a ship in mind, kitted out with all the stuff that you can find and install without cheating, that can take out said pirate fleet, post it here. I want to see what kind of creative solutions you guys can come up with.

Keep in mind that not every ship can accomplish every mission. Doing rush missions with a UE Cruiser is an act of futility. That said, let's see what's out there.

------------------

Ship Type: Crescent Fighter
Phase cannons maxed out, 1 Repulsor beam, Zidagar systems ugprade, sensor upgrade, density scanner, IFF decoder, speed upgrades, shield upgrades, fuel scoops, ECMs

Situation: Any battle against United Earth, Human Renegades, Miranu, Alien Renegades, Zidagar, Azdgari

Method:
Use overwhelming speed and the Spearhead tactic to bring down any warship but Voinian (possibly and indeed easy, but takes a while) and the dreaded Igazra, which cannot be Speared effectively in that ship.

Use the handling rate to out-turn any ship slower than an Azdara and take it down with Outcircling (also known as the Rosie, Circle of Death)

When coming up against a fleet of Azdaras, use the Repulsor Beam to knock one backwards at a speed worked out by the Azdara's mass and the repulsor beam's impact. This speed is
slowly than your speed, so while the Azdara is knocked back chase it down and destroy it.

Ship Type: Arada
Mass expansions, Systems upgrade, IFF decoder, Sensor Upgrade, ECMs, Density scanner, 2 pursuit missile launchers, 35 pursuit missiles, 3 swivel phase cannons

Situation: Whenever there's only one big ship around.

Method: Press "Shift"

Crescent Fighter

Remove all phase cannons. Add 3 neutron cannons and Dospect Armor.

Situations: Anywhere but Voinian Space. Even there I can do it but I don't like spending 20 hours destroying Voinian Cruisers. However in the Crescent, you can take on a warship head on and still survive.

Morgan

Ship: Azdara

Upgrades: Max swivel phase cannons, sheild upgrades, speed upgrades, jammers, IFF, Density Scanner, sensor upgrade, I think that's all you need.

Method: Destroy any large ship ship other than an Igadzra with circling, holding (a) and (space) , applying thrust as needed. Take fighters head on, only thing to watch for is dispersal rockets, which can be outrun.

This will work even against Voinians, but takes forever.

Ship: Azdara

Upgrades: Ditch the three swivels; replace with three standard cannons. Add Dospect, a fuel scoop, and a shield recharger

Method: Sit close and shoot. You absolutely cannot die in the crescent. You'll withstood close-range fire from two Igazras with no trouble. An Azdgari cruiser with it's Azdara's requires you to fly around a little, as you can't stand up to the cruiser and the fighters at the same time. But separate the cruiser from the fighters and you've got no problems. Voinian space is probably a little more tricky, but not really.

Frankly, I consider that particular setup a bug--a built-in cheat. 😉

I prefer a tanked-out (Magma) Lazira with all the nice Azdgari upgrades.

Ship: Lazira

Upgrades: Everything possible - add sensor upgrade, density scanner, IFF decoder, afterburner, all the stuff that they give you in UE missions (such as needle jammer, cloak, extra sensor thing for the nebula), turn upgrade, engine upgrade, dospect armour, swivel phase cannons, phase turret, fuel scoop, azdgari shield things, and shield upgrades, an ECM system and more that I can't remember - it is, unfortunately, necessary to ditch the missile launcher, and sacrifice some cargo space, to get all of this.

I tried this recently to make for a change from my usual crecent warship, and have found that it makes for really interesting battles - it's a cross between the power of a crescent and the manouverability of the arada. The only problem I have is the lack of 'carried' escorts - I like one-on-one fights (at which this ship is fantastic), but am too much of a girl to really appreciate big battles without escorts.... I usually go down and capture a few renegade aradas and laziras for moral support and a helping hand with the big stuff.... it's a great ship, though, fast, zippy, powerful and FUN! 🙂
