combat rating... can it be an on going goal?

hi... ive havent visted this forum in a while but i was wonderin if this were a possible plugin idea...

ok... it seems to me that the combat rating system just doesnt go high enuf. i mean... gettin an ultimate combat rating happens way to earlier in the game. i think improvin your rating should be an on going thing, always tryin to reach the next lvl (kinda like lvling a character).

i dont know if this idea has ever been mentioned, or if its even possible to make a pluggin like this (i have no knowledge on makin plugins whatsoever). any imput from sum of u experienced plugin makers would be appreciated. thx.

I'm not sure, but I don't think it would be possible to make additional combat ratings. Besides, to make them be useful, you'd have to make more missions that require the higher ratings. You continue to accumulate combat points once you're at Ultimate, but the rating itself doesn't go any higher.

That's not a bad idea; StarStrafer, I believe he means that they should have infinite combat ratings instead of the limited number of names the game has. For example, one simple solution would be to just display the numerical combat rating you have (divided by 100 or something), and put a double as the number; that should make it a high enough goal. 🙂

<edit>
As for putting it into EVO, first off, I can tell you that it isn't in the plug-in architecture to do something like that. That means that I, and the vast majority of plug designers, couldn't do it. That said, there are many graphics and other resources (as used in Magma, etc.) that can be modified outside the basic plug resources. I don't think this is one of them, though -- it seems to me that this would be a part of the code for the game, and outside a comprehensive (probably illegal) hack, it's probably illegal. The actual names for the ratings may be changeable, but the calculation is part of the source. Of course, I may be completely wrong, but I don't think it's likely, in this case at least 🙂

It's quite easy. You hack the data files - there's a section with combat ratings
lists, and quite simple add new sections. I've done it before - although I never
did get to Donkey class. <grins>

"Like I said, I'm awfully sorry for killing you, but the voices were insistant."

So the rating calculations continue at the length of the STR#ressource that stores the names of rating EV(C,O,N, ) is really a well-made game.

Y'a personne qui parle français ici?

It would be way cool if you could have a negative rating, in Nova at least cos they board you, then if you spoke to a ship they would laugh at you for being so lame.
There should also be a reputation setting, sort of a combination between legal and combat, well directly linked to them, so if you are well known and are rock-hard, people will give you lower prices, and vice-versa

Hey woo-hoo number 100!!. I'd like to thank all my fans, my parents for allowing me to reach this point and also freeola for the free web connection and....
