I have studied the names of the weapons used in EVO and have seen that some unlikely facts arise from the names of the weapons. In this following discourse I will lightly discuss the Neutron Cannon and the Plasma Siphon.
The Neutron Cannon: The Neutron Cannon is a powerful Voinian beam type weapon. However, neutron energy does little damage to metal or other types of non-organics. Instead, it does much more damage to lifeforms. How then does it do the heavy damage it causes in the game? The response I may get is, "Who cares! Play the game instead of looking that stuff up!".
The Plasma Siphon: Plasma is a gas of positive ions and free electriciy with a roughly equal negative and positive charge. What then would be it's effect upon a ship?
Well, an ion is an atom or a group of atoms that has lost one or more electrons or gained one or more. As you may or may not know, electrons are the conductor's of electricity found in atoms, the building block of all life. If negative and/or positive atoms bombarded a ship, it would either cause it to lose energy because of lack of conduction, or overload with excess energy because of the disruption in the normal conduction. Plasma has positive ions, so the result would be that the ships systems are overloaded and scrambled, thus disabling it or causing it to damage itself.

This is all just theory, but I hope that my humble knowledge has enriched you.

Good point! But as far as we know, the neutron cannon does not truely fire neutrons, merely something made up of mostly neutrons.. perhaps a shell of sorts.

neutron bombs work by srpaying loose neutrons over a wide area. but a neutron cannon, hypothetically firing a dense packet of neutrons (or maybe even degenerate neutron matter) could pack quite a punch.
also, don't forget that plasma is generally quite hot. and one would expect a bubble of directed plasma (necessarily short-ranged and difficult to control), would create an unpleasant environment for the energy fields of a space craft.
and these weapons are, to a certain degree, achievable with modern technology. by the time of EVO, they could be more advanced than we can currently imagine. not to mention that both weapons are, in the game, non-human designs.

Thanks for the feedback. As I said, it's just theory.
While we are on this subject, would anyone like to ponder the fact that there is no sound in space, but yet there is a sound effect for nearly everything. I love playing this game, and I don't really care about all the technical conflictions.
You will notice that the "laser beams" move slower than some ships.
EV/O is just a game, not real..

Especially when you consider that in EVO, you can fly from Earth to Mars in a matter of seconds, while in real life it takes at least four minutes for light to reach Mars (depending on its position in orbit)

Has anyone also noticed that there is no sun in any of the Solar systems? It's just a game. It's not real.

As far as realisme goes, lasers should really be beam weapons, since they should theorectically be going the speed of light.
However, note the scale. Earth and Mars are awbout how far apart? And the laser beam, assuming it had the range to go that far, would take how long to cross the distance? about 20-30 secs? Wouldn't that mean that it is going faster than the speed of light?
Quit poking holes in it, it's fun, and it works. And it doesn't have huge gaping holes of logic in it. That's good enough for me.

It's because every sci-fi TV show and movie has them. It may not be possible in reality, but it's a necessity if it's set then. Also, wouldn't it be kinda eery to play a game with no sounds for almost the entire time? I mean, it's basically there because it would be awful not having sounds going on (unless there was music in the background. That would be cool and solve the problem). Related note: Wouldn't it be cool if when shields are hit, they act like the Star Trek ones, and appeared for a second? Wouldn't that be cool? (whatever, IMO at least) Basically though: It's a work of fiction. Beyond that, it's a game. Those details don't matter.

I know.....just thought it might be interesting.....
It is after all as you said, just a game..

Lasers don't have to be beam weapons. There's nothing unrealistic about a laser bolt. In any case, EVO doesn't necessarily have lasers.
However, note the scale. Earth and Mars are awbout how far apart? And the laser beam, assuming it had the range to go that far, would take how long to cross the distance? about 20-30 secs?
lasers are not always beams, if the quartz(talking about todays lasers)flashed for but a second, only a blast would be a short one. and the plasma siphon, seeing as it emits large abounts of plasma larger than some ships, would melt all but the toughest, thickest armor(plasma would desintigrate a person if they were even 100 feet away from it), while in the game, it does nearly no damage to armor

How about this: your ship's computer adds simulated sounds for everything that happens in order to give the pilot more information to work from.
