Man, times have changed.

Before you all ask who I am, I'm from way back. Mid '98, something like that. I rarely post on the ASW boards now, I'm a lot more active on the alt board at (url="http://"http://stuartsda.his.com/evo/")http://stuartsda.his.com/evo/(/url)

And I was just looking down the list of people who'd posted. I recognised two of the names, Bomb's and andrew's. This was out of maybe thirty posts, summat like that. It's almost like being a newbie again (but without asking questions like "How do I get the Voinininininian missions?" πŸ™‚

It's wierd. I know most people here, if I mentioned HH or Jos would go 'Who?' In fact, if I mentioned Jim, Blazer, Beigejaguare33, Andy, myself, almost anyone active on the Alt. board--which is where a lot of the people from way back are--you'd go 'Who?' (Exception being Gildor and Bomb, maybe some others.)

It's odd. I was going to say that even though the community's changed a lot--anyone remember nash? No, wait, course ya don't--EVO's stayed the same, but that's not true either. I fired it up for the first time in ages t'other day, first time playing 1.0.2, and it was hard. I used to be a pretty nifty pilot, now I struggle to do, well, anything. Took me over half an hour to complete the Pariah mission in a UE Destroyer. I used to be able to clear that system out in seconds.

I guess the point of this post is that everything changes. Except that one thing does stay constant. We're always being promised the next upgrade to the game. Over a year ago, Joe Burnette and I were working on a plug in. News about EV3 kept on being leaked, and we had a long discussion about whether to wait or to go ahead and hope EV3 didn't steal our thunder. (It was gonna be a CR, Empire's Fall, I may still have it stuffed somewhere...but I don't think so.) We eventually decided to wait and then see if we could be first off the mark for EV3, get the first plug out. There's a whole load on paper. πŸ˜‰

And now here we are a year later, Joe's disappeared, and EV3's still in the pipeline. (Sorry, bad pun). Bizarre.

Actually, I guess that's the real point of this post. Things change, and they'll always be bizarre. If that wasn't true, the world would be a much more boring place.

Anyway, that's all I have to say.

Heh, a few of us are still around. I remember all the names you listed above.

Nash is one of the reasons why things CAN change for the better, as he is gone.

About a month back, there was an uprising. The pigs and their western ways were thrown off our backs by the people! Those who rejected the old regime, including the Ambrosia employees, were spared when they denounced tyranny and pledged their loyalty to the party, which shall usher in a shining new century for ALL the people!

Hmm..... I'm sorry for you, JG. But just stay around, and you'll work out who's
who like before.

I just hope that post didn't imply that us newer people were inferior.

You know, after that first smart aleck post I made, JG, you got me thinking. A lot of the members around here are "new" in more ways than one. I've noticed that many (not all of course) of the members on this particular board tend to be younger than those on some of the other boards, quite a few 13-or-so-year-olds, and then mostly mid-teenagers. Meanwhile, the mean age on the other boards seems to be closer to my age. Not that I'm a geezer myself, but it just seems I've got a few years on lots of people around here.

Hey, JG, I'm here. Of course, I'm on the alt. board, too...

I guess that means, in terms of recognizing, I don't count. πŸ˜‰ I do recognize them, though. What happened to HH, btw?

------------------

I wasn't on the old boards, but I know most of the people JG mentioned from Blazer's Board.

And Joe Burnette is still alive and well on the Mille Terrae webboard/mailing list.

I'm still around here... I left the ASW boards after they took down the discboards, but decided to come back sometime around January... Of course, I'm still around in the UEVO RPG and on the alt boards from time to time as well... And I know every one of those names you mentioned. πŸ™‚

I left for a week, and returned to find Jude had resigned.
I looked, but every thread I could find was locked or had been deleted... no place left to say goodbye.
So instead, I offer my sig for the next few days as a tribute... Thanks, Jude, for the time you spent here making the boards a better place. You will be missed.

Yes JG, we know who you are. Jomor hasn't really dropped out of sight, you just need to e-mail him to get a response. Interesting to see you here. Have fun. I'm rambling....

Why do people post these little "Changes" posts?

Same reason that if you're in a nursing home some old guy will corner you and start rambling on about how he'd attended every World Series game from 1950 to 1990 before his good-for-nothing grandkids put him in the home.

I remember all those names. I recognize your name but don't remember it, you probally don't even recognize mine. I've been around since week 1. Got the message from andrew that EVO was out and was posting on the board the next day. Course I very rarely post, very rarely but usually read everything. Most people that old are easily recognized and well known, guess I'm the exception.

Heh, JG..it's been a while. You alawys go by that name? I think I remember when you showed up, but who's to say.

Anyways, nice to see that you came back, if only to post a sappy post. Why not join the rest of us oldies and regularly post here, we could use the input of someone like you.

How's life been? How's the wife, family, job, school?

I reckon that the reason all us newbies are so young is because the game is so old. All the older people would have already joined back when the game was new. I've had EVO for about 5 years, maybe more, but I only just discovered the boards.

Q) - When was EV Override first released?

(A) - EV Override was first released on the 29th of April, 1998

Sounds like you're exagerating just a tad...

CS

You know what, I just checked and you're right! Doesn't time fly.
OK, I got EVO in july 98, but I've only just discovered the boards πŸ™‚

Don't be ashamed to live in Derbyshire, Jess! That's where I used to go hang gliding, before the Foot and Mouth thing practically outlawed the sport. I'm in Nottingham, so we're kind of neighbours. It's a small cosmos! (I didn't actually think there were any other Mac owners north of Watford Gap.)

My dad's a mac fanatic. Me too, of course. I don't hate derbyshire itself, it's the druggies and the faggots and the prostitutes.

Six macs....

Course, half are for my dad's work. And the other half, well, the most powerful is a Performa 5320. Needless to say, I use my dad's work ones.

And I'm a Brit too (London). Small world.

Hmmm, sounds neat. Need an extra hand around the house? Maybe somebody to help chop firewood or do some cooking?
