The Crew of One Challenge is pretty much over now, and slipping down the message board, so I thought it was time to throw down a new gauntlet. Let's play:
E X O T I C E S C O R T S
The aim of the challenge is to start a new pilot file and play the game in the normal way until you've got yourself a decent ship. Once you have a ship which retails for 1m credits or more, you must attack any unique ship (pers) that hypers into your vicinity.
The idea of the challenge is to get yourself the most impressive fleet imaginable. It doesn't matter what you fly in or how it's equipped - that's not part of the challenge. Just get yourself up to six unique ships as captured escorts, and post here to tell us who you've managed to get working for you.
Da roolz:
Use no cheat plugs.
Preferably no plugs at all, but state whatever you have installed.
Your fleet must all be operational simultaneously - keep them alive!
Um, can anyone else think of any rules that might be necessary?
I'll be going after a Voinian Dreadnought (maybe the prototype as well), a beam-equipped igazra, the Disco Bison, um... the UES Ironsides, and Matt Burch, I think!
Have fun.
------------------ I'm sorry my karma ran over your dogma. (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/evodude2001/home.html")New & Improved: Cerberus Station!(/url) I got this .sig file at insanely_great.com - don't even think about taunting me!
I'm sorry VoinianAmbassador, but that doesn't work.
The second you land, all the special outfits vanish, and Matt Burch will become just another Turncoat. The Disco Bison turns back to an Elmalgha Frieghter.
I know, sucks, but I know this cause I attack every pers that I see..
(You oughta check out the S.S. Surprise, YOWCH!)
Hmm, I wish we still had a SEARCH facility. There's another thread where some folks were talking about getting hold of the Igazra with the prototype beam weapon. If you take it for yourself, I believe it reverts to an ordinary Iggy as soon as you land... but somebody said that escorts keep their special outfits. I'll post a link here if I manage to find that other thread.
Hmm....Escorts actually do keep out-of-the-ordinary weapons, such as a Miranu Freighter pers. with Neutron turrets (I did it myself) or a Miranu Courier with Pursuit missiles. But if you take them for yourself, they automatically disappear and the ship becomes a normal ship of its type. I haven't done this yet, but if you capture a ship with a weapon that you can't purchase, and use it as an escort, it keeps the weapon. But if you were to use it as your ship, it'd disappear when you land (the special weapon).
------------------ ESPilot; Ship: S.S. Honor Blade, Alliance: Anyone who pays him huge sums of cash for killing people (currently the NTR's), Combat Rating: Boosted to Ultimate after wrecking the Z.S.S. Dramatic and a gang of CW's.
If I understand you correctly, ESPilot, it would be possible to retain a set of unusual escort ships. So... game on!
It is true that pers ships revert to normal ships when captured. However, it is totally feasible to take the Voinian Dreadnought or Beam-equipped Igazra as escorts since they are specifically different ships in the ship resource.
------------------
Well, these are the Escorts I already have: The Nadir...............The Nadir (name of ship res) ASS Frivoulus...........Figure it out Ali Saidi...............A real cool Lazira The Disco Bison.........You know... UES Incontravertible....you know Matt Burch..............Turncoat
------------------ The difference in insantiy and ingenious is measured just by success.

There are basically two problems with using përs/mission ships:
1. If a përs ship is captured, it becomes a completely normal ship of its class. For example, the U.E.S. Incontrovertible becomes a typical Destroyer. There is a little loophole, however. Some mission ships such as the Dreadnought, Igazras w/beams, and the Nadir have their own shďp resource, and, when used as escorts, keep all their goodies.
2. All special weapons on ships you capture as your own are removed as soon as you try to buy upgrades. These are weapons like Salvo Rockets, Igadzra Beams, and Enhanced Neutron Turrets. Basically any weapon you can't get without capturing a ship. Of course, you could just not go to the outfitters, but who wants to fly a shp with no upgrades?

...Okaaay, so which six of the vessels that have their own shďp resource are the most powerful? Can you suggest a 'dream team' fleet?
Keeping original weapons: 6 Dreadnoughts
Ali Saidi and Igazras with beams are also good, and Nadir isn't bad.

Ali Saidi lacks a shďp resource and reverts when captured.
Unique, mission only ships:
Voinian Dreadnought The Nadir The Turncoats escorting the Nadir Enhanced Azdaras (no armour) Enhanced Aradas Beam-equipped Igazras The Prototype Azdara
