The Dark Tide 3 - The Last Hope

Corocian Supercruisers are not just for war, but they were designed to be completely self-sustaining for years at a time. There are hydroponics bays in them where the crew can grow food, generators that produce water and air. Because of this, the crew of these ships will be away from home for long periods of time. So, some of their family come along.

Well, since my last attempt to insert myself into this storyline failed, can I at least be a bodyguard or something?

ElGuapo, your first attempt to enter the story failed because you broke the rules. You can still use your original character, just not that first post.

Well, it's Thunder who is doing it, so its up to him.

Meanwhile, I shall state some issues and where I stand on them:

1-I will not give up the Sol system.

2-I demand the hand over of Bakka and Centauri to the Corocians.

3-In return for Bakka and Centauri, I will give over Molos to the UE, and the Voinians will give over Verril as well.

4-No Corocian military bases shall be removed unless I look over the matter carefully and get 8.5 million for each base.

Ok... take 2

The Lazira "Sinkmaster" coasts to a docking ring on Station Unity.

"Anyone need a good set of neutral bodyguards?" the comm signal rings out. "I feel like i should play at least a small part in Galactic Peace... My crew can be a big help. Of course, if you don't need me, I'll go disappear. Any takers?"

Better?

Apologies for inadvertently breaking the rules earlier - it seemed like one side was getting too powerful, I wanted to even the odds a little.

There were only four days left until the peace conference was scheduled to commence; and Thunder and the crew of Station Unity were merely awaiting the arrival of the final delegates. Many delegates had arrived already, including those from the Miranu and Zidagar, as well as the Kayans and Strandless.

The Station Unity security staff were working hard to prepare a secure room for the actual negotiations; it was to be sealed off by a force field, with force field partitions to seperate each delegation and protect them in case of any trechery. A large table and chairs suitable to every race attending had been built, and were being placed in the room even now.

Thunder was busy brushing up on his diplomatic skills; he'd be attending with the Station Unity delegation. Though they weren't really a government, they could act as combonation observers/moderators, and they'd obviously play a part in the negotioations, though the main negotiations would be left up to the governments of the universe.

All that was left was for the final delegates to show up...

Carnotaur has entered the Unity system in the Demon with its escorts. Captain Scorcher, as I said earlier, is also cloaked in the Unity system, and his new type of cloak cannot be detected. He is there only to help protect Carnotaur.

The Station Unity crew directed ElGuapo7 to the main elevator and gave him clearance to proceed to the command level. He got in and did so, and as the elevator doors opened on the Command Center on Level 1, he could see Thunder waiting for him outside.

"Hi, ElGuapo7," Thunder said, "the crew has told me about you; it's rare to find someone so dedicated to keeping peace these days. Welcome to Station Unity."

"What about my request?" ElGuapo7 asked.

"Most of the delegates have brought their own bodyguards, but you can always go around and see if anyone needs some extra help. If none of them need extra protection, then the Station Unity Security force could always use some help from an experienced crew such as yours. We'd be grateful if you could help us with security on board during the conference. Or, if you'd rather, you could help patrol the system and make sure no troublemakers show up while the conference is going on. We'll leave the decision up to you; choose whatever you feel most comfortable with.

The U.E.S. Steadfast enters the Unity system.

"Attention, Station Unity, this is Admiral Samurai and the UE Delegation. We are preparing to dock."

"Second docking ring, section 17. Cruiser-class parking will be on your right. Enjoy your stay."

The U.E.S. Steadfast navigates into section 17 of the second docking ring. The UE Delegation, along with its six elite bodyguards, exits the ship and heads off into Station Unity.

Word of the galactic peace conference has gotten out to the mainstream media. Reporters and galactic satellite crews are pouring into Station Unity to cover the event. The event will be broadcast live on all UE and Miranu planets, as well as Corocian, Igadzra, Voinian, Renegade, and Azdgari colonies. Thunder has no peace. Between being asked to do interviews with about twenty-five different galactic news networks and magazines, with reporters knocking on his door with rising regularity, and being accosted by journalists and camermen everytime he enters a public area, he is starting to feel that the day of the conference couldn't come soon enough.

The Station's engineers have their hands full, coordinating inter-galactic satellite coverage and co-ordinating the media technology. All hands are at work, helping with wiring and audio/video output.

OOC: We're good to start the Peace Conference on this end.

Thunder was awakened by a knock on the door of his quarters. He'd been trying to catch some sleep after completing a long day of interviews, security arrangements, diplomatic training for members of the Station Unity delegation, helping put the finishing touches on the conference room, and various other activities. He walked to the door, hoping it wasn't another galactic news network looking for a comment. To his relief, it was merely his cheif of operations. "Sorry to wake you, Thunder," he reported, "but I thought you'd like to know, all the delegations have arrived."

"They have? Great! Thanks for telling me."

Thunder tried to get back to sleep, but he was to excited, or maybe nervous, or a combonation of the two. The peace conference would begin promptly at 9:00 this morning; just three and a half hours away. Deciding to give up on getting any more sleep, he got dressed for the conference and prepared the computer files on the datapad he'd need to take with him in order to keep his delegation in order and keep the peace conference on track.

With a little luck, and a little faith, he and the leaders of the various races would hammer out a peace agreement and make galactic history today...

A hatch opened up and the aliens said,

Carnotaur walked along the conference room where the nagotiations were to be held. He was still going to stick to his original desicion:

1-The Corocians will not give up the Sol system, the Saalia system, the Kavkaz system, and the Ersadt system.

2-The Corocians demand the hand over of Bakka and Centauri to the Corocians.

3-In return for Bakka and Centauri, the Corocians will give over Molos to the UE, and the Voinians will give over Verril as well.

4-No Corocian military bases shall be removed unless Carnotaur looks over the matter carefully and gets 8.5 million for each base.

5-The Corocians will pay no more than 9 million to each government.

6-The Corocians expect 3 million from each of their enemies (the UE, the Igadzra, the Miranu) due to losses the Corocians suffered.

Meanwhile, Scorcher still was in the Unity system, on the cloaked Omega and along with a whole Corocian battlefleet. If anything dangerous was to happen, Carnotaur would immediately teleported away. Teleportation had just been perfected by Captain Scorcher, but it required more energy than a Voinian Cruiser, an Igazra, and two UE Cruisers need combined. So, one teleporter was placed on all Corocian Supercruisers because they were the only ones that could give it the power it needed.

The day of the Peace Conference had arrived.

All the delegates funneled into the main hall, and the leaders of the galaxy's races sat down at the prepared circular table. Thunder took his position. He shuffled his notes with a tremor of nervous excitement, and began the conference.

OOC: Take it away, Thunder.

Trying to ignore the various camera crews on the far side of the room, and how they were broadcasting every word spoken in the conference room to every corner of the galaxy, Thunder looked up at the assembled leaders and began.

"Thank you all for attending. I know we have had our differeces and our wars. I can tell there is great tension in this room; delegates from rival races and bitter enemies sitting together. I make no mistake in saying that this will not be easy; but it is something we must do. Our races and governments have fought for long enough. The suffering of the civilian population is simply too great. Resources that could be used to better all our lives and help those in need are instead being spent on weapons of war. Homes and entire worlds are being destroyed. The casualty count in the Great Wars has topped two billion. We need to end this.

I know each and every one of you came here with expectations, and perhaps demands you expect to be met. And I know that the idea of bargaining and negotiating with bitter rivals may seem distasteful, to say the least. But the civilian population demands it. The purpose of a government is to unify its people and ensure their security and happiness. If you allow your hatred to keep you fighting, then entire races will be wiped out, and civilian casualty rates will be staggering. Please, stop the killing. Let's all work together to forge an agreement to restore peace to our galaxy."

Thunder paused, and was greeted by sporadic applause by some of the delegations. Politely acknowledging it, he then continued. "Now, let's get down to buisness. One of the key issues we face is territory. Various worlds have been gained, lost, and destroyed in the Great Wars, and obviously some of them are disputed, with more than one race feeling that they have a legitimate claim to ownership. If we can draw up borders for the new government territories, then it will open the way for the other matters we must deal with. I suggest we begin with each race stating which disputed systems they feel they own, and why. From there, we can conduct negotiations where disputes arise. Which delegation would like to begin?"

------------------
A hatch opened up and the aliens said,
"We're sorry to learn that you soon will be dead,
But though you may find this slightly macabre,
We prefer your extinction to the loss of our job."

Then Carnotaur spoke.

"Though I want peace, there are some systems which I will not relinquish and wish I feel I have legitimit ownership. Here are my demands:

The Corocians do not want any other systems that were destroyed by our attacks, such as Liat and Zanat. However, we will not give up any bases in the UE/Miranu Void, nor will we give up the Stror system. The Voinians will give up the Kirrim system for 2.5 million credits. We will be willing to give up Innirian for 8.5 million credits.

And I have a question; will there be any limit on weapons and ship production?"
