Cool. I didn't know that either.

Anybody with an experience in EVO knows that. But, I would have to agree. The Voinian Frigate has better stats than the UE Destroyer, but who wins? The UE Destroyer becuase of its Hunter Missles and becuase of its speed.
Yeah, one stray rocket can really @#$% someone off. In the Dreadnought mission where you have to destroy it, I got hit by a Rocket, and BOOM, I'm dead. I also agree with Captain Carnotaur about Guided Missles. I send my fighters at the target if it is being engaged by my allies, then fire guided weapons (Hunter Missles).

OKAY!! I didn't ask for tactics or speed vs. power debates!! So far, only one person has helped me at all... But what I really need to know is what is the name of that plug?

However, that only applies to some ships. In cruisers, battleships, battlecruisers, carriers, dreadnaughts, etc. you don't want to concontrate totally on speed, you want to focus on shielding and weaponry. This was one problem the British had, their flagship, the H.M.S. Hood, was fast and powerful, but lacked armor. Thus, it was sunk when it engaged the German Battleship Bismark, who had superior armor and thus easily won.

Well please remember the H.M.S. Hood was a World War I vessel, which meant that it's armor was very good during its time (but terrible by WWII). The ship was obsolete, and should have never been sent against the Bismark and Prinz Eugen. It's firepower was incredible, however, and five of the Hood's 15 inch shells hit the Bismark, but did not explode, instead went through the ship. It was actually the Prinz Eugen's 12 inch shell that penetrated the Hood's thin hull armor, entered the forward magazine storage chambers, and ripped it in half. (3 of the Hood's 3,000 crew members (I think it was 3000) lived) Anyway, my point is, the H.M.S. Hood was only sunk because it was such a terribly old vessel that should have been retired by the second World War. Now ships like the Bismark, Tirpitz, and Scharnhourst were like the Voinian Cruiser, where they depended on their immense firepower to survive. But look how the Tirpitz got destroyed...By Royal Barracuda dive bombers. My point being, it was the small, little things that destroyed it. The Graf Spee is another example. When it was engaged off of South America by two British destroyers and a light cruiser, guess who won. The Brits again! :)Actually, the Graf Spee was scuttled, but this all still proves that the little guys do make a difference, even in World War II.

One thing you forgot; the British could have easily upgraded the Hood, but they didn't. Besides, there is no way to 'Sink' a spacecraft like you sink a normal boat. Ships (water) and spacecraft act and operate a little differently than each other. Besides, I wasn't saying that speed is bad, I was just saying that every advantage has downsides. I pointed out the weakness for speed, and you did the same thing for armor and firepower.

Well, I figured you would know that "sinking" in sea warfare is the same as "blowing up" in space fiction. And yes, you are right, everything has its downsides...From ships to people.
Anyway, wasn't the Hood an awesome ship? Personally, I like studying about German weapons more then anything, but I still hold much respect for the Royal Navy. I think the Prinz Eugen was my favorite ship, and the Panzer V "Tiger" or the American "Pershing" class heavy tank are my favorite tanks. Anyway...

Ah, speed may have its weakness but its weakness only shows up on certain terrains.
Your example of the H.M.S. Hood was an example of speed's weakness in Water. Speed is utilized in a totally different way in other environments, such as Air, or Space in EVO's case.
Let's saym for example you were in a jet, and you had an enemy launching missiles at you, would you want extreme armor and the ability to tae the hit and risk the possibility of damage? Or would you want speed, and the ability to shake the missiles and not get hit in the first place? Same in EVO, in my suped-up Arada, I can take down Voinian Frigates somewhat easily, I dodge al the rockets, and circle around and around, so I rarely get hit, I'll use afterburners to help dodge more rockets and even a few neutron blasts. When up aganst a Voinian Cruiser, I do the same, it just takes longer
In the original EV, I was the opposite, all I wanted was the Confederate Cruiser because of its size, firepower, and ability to take down almost everything that came its way, I looked at the small, nimble, agile ships, and disregarded them as flies waiting to be swatted. I learned that speed is better when I came up against the Aliens.

Sounds good, only remember not all Germens were Nazis. General Erwin Rommel is my favorite World War II general, and he was one of the men who attempted the assisination on Hitler, so you have to have some sort of respect for him. He was virtually impossible to beat, especially in Africa, when he had the right supplies and manpower. (Which he never had on the Atlantic Wall)
Favorite U.S. Ship: U.S.S. North Carolina or the U.S.S. Saratoga. Favorite Royal Navy Ship: H.M.S. Prince of Wales and the H.M.S. Nelson. Favorite German Ship: The Prinz Eugen or the Tirpitz. Favorite U.S. Tank: In World War II, the Pershing. (The German tanks could beat a Sherman anytime... :frown: ) In more modern terms, the M60. (I don't like the Abrams that much)

Yes, I also like Erwin Rommel a bit.
The reason the Sherman was so good was that it could be mass produced, and swarms of them could easily beat up the Germans.
Originally posted by Captain Carnotaur: **Yes, I also like Erwin Rommel a bit.
Yeap, Rommel was the man.
The Shermans success did come in numbers. (The Americans built 120,000 of them in 1944) But it's one inch of armor didn't seem to help it out much. I read recently (I can't remember if it was in "Citizen Soldiers" or some armor book I have) about a single Panzer V Tiger blocking a road a few miles east of Paris in 1944. A French armor unit, composed of 200 Sherman tanks, came across this sigle Tiger, and during the next 15 minutes, 26 Sherman tanks were destroyed. The Tiger was only destroyed when the French tank commander called in air support, and a P-47 took it out with a salvo of rockets and 500 pound bombs. This is all goes back to prove that mass, size, and firepower are sometimes excellent, while light, small craft are sometimes at the advantage (sounds like I'm proving the point you made earlier. ). The Tiger's 88mm gun could penetrate just about anything, and the Sherman's 75mm gun wasn't effective against the Tiger unless it got a direct shot in the rear section of the Tiger's tracks. I also believe that Germany could have easilly won the war had it not been for the Allied air forces. It is true that throughout the years on the western front, the Germans outnumbered the allied forces in manpower, but just about everyone gives the credit for victory to the mass numbers of B-17s, B-24s, P-47s, and any other fighter/bomber.

Only one inch of armor? I'm sure it had more than that. BTW, I heard once about a German Tiger tank that was hit 8 or 12 times by Sherman shells, and they didn't do a thing to it.
