Personally, I've always thought of Voinians as grey Klingons, but stouter and with no hair and a VERY complicated uniform.

I guess you have to be a regular to get noticed & respected around here. True, I haven't played the game a whole lot but I still like it, it's plot and teh universe it's set in. Cinga, best of luck to you and hope you can provide the EVO people with the likeliness of all the alien races. Would've been fun to part of it tho. I guess our ideas just goes to far apart. Or something.
Am I being overly dramatic about this? Probably, but I just don't like being overlooked/ignored. I have better things to do with my time
May the Force be with you all. ^_^

Cinga: Hmm, I just didn't see anyone approving of my version of just about anything, except for you. But you don't really count, since you at the same time have your own versions and are practicing those beliefs. I just thought it'd be cool for the fans to be able to use "real" images of their universe, and in some way contribute to make it happen. But I only saw recognition of your work, and not even anyone taking notice of mine (again, save for you). Thanks for the positive feedback, btw. ^_^
So I didn't see much point in continuing my quest before deaf ears. That's all. I don't seek appraisal, just some form of recognition. Even critique, cause that'd help me achieve my goal of producing a model for the EVO fans. Instead I feel a discussion taking place over my head where people are continuingly making references to stuff I know nothing about, and not taking notice to the existing atempts I'm making. Therefor my feeling of being overlooked.
Rip: Actually, I think that's exactly what my Miranu looks like. Well OK, not exactly, but those aliens are ugly. Mine isn't. You can't expect people that have met aliens to be able to make exact replicas of them, they'll be random. So just giving them big eyes and the same basic shape would be enough to make them pass for your regular version of the alien visitor. Or at least that's my take on it.
I'd really like to give the Miranu bug's eyes, like the ones of a fly (a thousand eyes in one). But people mistake it for being only one eye, because they just give the aliens a quick glance and then head for the hills. ^_^
And I just finished my Idga... (url="http://"http://home.swipnet.se/~w-60667/evo/ziggy.jpg")Ziggy Stardust(/url) pic.
I originally meant to make it a happy alien, but over time it kindof.. Mutated. My pics always do that. I have no control over them.

And you shouldn't have control over me. Gimme back my keyboard!
Whyatt: I didn't say anything because, frankly, I didn't like your rendition. I'm not saying that to be mean, because I didn't like Cinga's, either It's not because they were bad, or wrong, it's just because I didn't agree with them. I think that trying to build a reference model for the EVO community to work from for the entirety of EVO isn't going to work. Since the original author only gave us vague ideas of what the races look like, each player has cooked up their own version of what the races look like. Getting a concensus is going to be like pulling teeth.
The other reason that I didn't like them was...because...I'm also drawing my own I'm going to use them for the models of the aliens in my Burning Season plug, for planetary still-shots and briefings. I don't expect anyone to accept them as cannon in the larger universe, but in my plug it's what they'll look like. I'm working on sketches, and finished drawings. However, I have an old 3D model that I made of an alien a long time ago that I'm using as the basis for the Strand variants. (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/4004/hunter.jpg")http://www.geocities...4004/hunter.jpg(/url)
This isn't what they look like now. More like a few million years ago, but it gives you an idea of what their physiognomy is going to be like in TBS. Also missing from this model is their third eye
I'll try to put a more formal page up for the 'new' TBS when I get time.

No offense taken... I don't agree with your pics either. But it reminds me of the "Preying Mantis" (no typo) I once drew... once I find a scanner, I'll show you... it's cool.

That's really cool. Actually it looks a lot like my rendition of the (url="http://"http://home.swipnet.se/~w-60667/evo/alienrace1.jpg")zid... Something(/url). You know. Same hunchback, lizardy (stupid & brute?) look. Maybe a BIT too stupid, but still very similar to my thoughts.
If it's not possible to get a consensus of all the EVO players, maybe it'd still be possible to make some sort of gallery of different versions of the EVO inhabitants. Do you know anyone working on page with similar contents?
It'd be cool if there were a fanart gallery that could start up such a section. And maybe then people could vote for which version they like best & agree most with. And then you could make those contributions somewhat "official". Or something. I'm just ranting here.
The way I think of the Miranu is sort of like the Elves from the Lord of the Rings...The Strands would have to be an alien that you wouldn't get freaked out sitting in a bar with 25 of them...The Voinians just HAVE to be ugly...in movies, that's how you design the bad guys...
I know, incorrect use of the ellipses (sp) ( that's the three dots...)
------------------ #29 on the Periodic Table
I don't know if anyone is doing an EVO fanart page. Seems like something one of the story archivists would do, but I haven't heard about anything like that.
As for my alien: Only the Adzgari still look very similar to that pic. Very lean, very fast. Their raider's lifestyle doesn't make for steady meals. They also tend to use a lot of implants to enhance their piloting abilities, going so far as to have their third eye replaced with a sensor interface.
The Zidagar are more upright and have a shorter neck. They also dress like classic British sailor-types, as they've absorbed a big chunk of British culture through their dramatists' love of Shakespeare Of course they have phase beam sabres...
I'm playing up the Igadzra's paranoia, and having them wear masks and long coats, making it hard to tell one apart from the other.
The Voinians are very thick, and vary in color from dark brown to battleship gray. Their faces are similar to that of a walrus, but with protective ridges along the upper eye and no giant tusks. They're semi-aquatic, much like a hippo. Their skin needs constant exterior moisture, and they wear special suits for this purpose. Their need to expand comes from their utter wrecking of their ecology over the last 3000 years, as their industry grew without regard to polution or resource limitations.
The Miranu are much like the Grey aliens, but not quite as blank-looking.
The Emalgha...are dead. Though I do have some idea about them. Probably the only common non-humanoid race.
The Hinwar...i'm still figuring on the Hinwar.
There are a few other alien races I'm adding, but for the most part they're a secret
OK, I've redone my Miranu pict with somewhat starker shading/highlighting, using black and white airbrush rather than lighter and darker blue tones. There's also more detail. All in all, it's lost that somewhat naΔve child's drawing feel.
I've tried to send it to Whyatt Thrash through a third person, and if everything works out fine, you should be able to check it out on his page (url="http://"http://home.swipnet.se/~w-60667/evo")http://home.swipnet.se/~w-60667/evo(/url) real soon.

It's there! Finally! Thanx for the hosting.
Yeah! The completed version of my Miranu picture is finally online! Many thanx to Jan Peratt for the hosting, and for the crucial shading concepts he suggested for my picture. (url="http://"http://home.swipnet.se/~w-60667/evo/")http://home.swipnet.se/~w-60667/evo/(/url)
I hope I can find the time to draw the other races, too... and I hope I won't be the only one sharing his imaginations on the EVO races either.
That miranu pic is like I imagined them aswell. I reckon the voinians kinda like the Jem Hadar from startrek: DS9. Why not do that for a comm pic? Have a pic of an alien instead of the ship. But, this means that all traders with the same ship would look alike.
That Miranu pic was good, I think, but it was too human. It had a humanoid body, armes, hands and even fingers. I just dont think aliens would be like that. -Gav
------------------ My name is Gavin, and dont you ever forget that. -King and leader of athiesm
I imagine the Azdgari as looking like humans, except for rougher skin, a different head, longer arms, and colored green. I imagine the Voinians as people in grey metal suits, and a purple visor. I have no idea what the other races look like. It would be interesting to have a something that would show what alien races look like.
You know what's really wrong with all your drawings, guys? the EYES are too human.
Voinians: Dry, thick, leather-like brown-black skin (to keep water in). 2 lizard-like eyes (to prevent water from leaking out), very reflective retinas. Venom sacs on their necks (remnants from the days when they were still hunters), tiny hooked teeth. No hair (that would absorb pollution). Swollen joints (to allow wider and faster arcs of movement), 2-4 arms with 3 fingers each (2 dexts, 1 opposable). Thick endo-skeletal structure, and possibly a few blood-filled fins on their backs to disperse heat.
Azdys: Thin, frog-like skin. Very large, round eyes (at least 3). Highly developed cranium (lightning quick reflexes). Pale-grey skin (spaceflight). Several layers of lips conceling many rows of long, thin molar-like teeth (they'd have to be herbivorous to have those kinds of reflexes). VERY dexterous, long fingers (better control).
Iggies: Same kind of skin as Azdys. Small, beady eyes. Always wear thick clothes, even in spaceflight. Possibly have long thick hair.
Ziddies: Very large craniums with a blood-vein-laced fin running down their backs (they work in hot enviroments). Thin, possibly red (or whatever color their blood is) skin. Absolutely hairless.
Miranu: Sorta like the generic pale-faced-big-eyes-Roswell-aliens, but with more color. Gills (their homeworld is aquatic). Long skulls (because it looks cool ^__^)
This is just using what I know about Biology.
Has NE1 ever played Descent: Freespace? I always imagine the Voinians being like the Vasudans off of that game for some reason...their ships look kinda similar...
Well, I did find a few more clues as to what the races might look like:
Miranu: Their eyes probably have discernible irises/pupils (i.e. not Communion-style). On the Miranu/Igadzra station's bar (Veranil, or something like that?), there's a reference to the Miranu rolling their eyes at the comparative futility of trading with the reclusive Igadzra. Now, how would you be able to tell?
Strands: If we had to choose an Earthian analog, probably humanoid or porcine. On Meagh--the Adgazra vacation world--there's a demand for sun cream. That implies that the Strands can tan/sunburn (or some analog, depending on what metal their blood's based on). On Earth (at least), humans and pigs are the only animals that can experience this.
I'm an artist to (sort of) but I rarely draw EVO aliens. I draw more machines and humans and other strange and unusual things. I don't have a scanner so I can't post them but a well. I havn't seen anyones pics yet but this is my opinion.
Azdagars: From one mission regarding an azdagar(sp?) the message said a large reptillian creature approaches you. Thus I think they look like Spiderman's The Lizard. Of course with the pointy ears (Cinga ;)).
Idgadzars: Tall, yellowish, very nomadic, and exclusive.
Miranu: I think they look like the mega-evil guys from Oddworld, except with smooth features and slits for eyes. Very friendly helping people.
Voinians: Ever see Aliens? That's them.
Thanks for listening.

Actually, the documentation hints at this, but it isn't very specific. My theory is that the Strands are three different castes of one species (i.e. the Moties from Pournelle/Niven, or the Minbari from Babylon 5), each with specific jobs and talents. (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/skyblade500/omega_conspiracy")The Omega Conspiracy(/url) will go into more detail with this theory, as well as explain Gadzair, the Council, and the Strand War.
P.S. Please do not lock this topic simply because it is old. I find it very interesting to read the opinions of others on this subject.
