I can't find an explanation anywhere of what my different stats actually govern, what effect is produced by raising them, etc. For example, what on earth does vitality actually do? Although my vitality is a good 15 points higher than it was when I started playing, I can see no difference in anything my characters does. The other stats mystify me too, to varying degrees. A full list of what they all do would be swell.
Vitality effects how many HP you gain when you change levels, i.e., more vitality= more HP. More luck will increase the amount of "stuff" you get when you kill, after a while, with a lot of luck, the goods you'll get will be worth more than the gold, e.g., $5000 in gold, but $50,000 in "stuff". Dexterity affects you hit/deffence percentage, the more dexterous the better you fight. More strength simply means you hit harder. More percerption, means your better at hitting the mark.
I played through v1.0 and started stat hunting after reading the posts here; it can be quite fun...but then, it simply justs insipid. Anyway I started by increasing my luck and strength; when I got close to going up a level, I incresed my vitality. Then I did dexterity and marksmanship.

Will increasing my perception help my Swordsman hit better? I thought this was only for increasing my hits with bow weapons...
