Hate to tell the dork who started this string, but the ship doesn't matter.
Oh, yesssss it does. You can be the best strategical weapons user, have the best moves, whatever, but if you take on even a Voinian Supply Ship with a standard UE freighter you'll get whipped. Peesacrap Kraits are dead within two passes of blaze cannon fire. A Miranu Courier couldn't take on a Voinian Cruiser and its fleet. The ship matters. Granted, you do have to know how to use it, but it really is mostly the ship in the end.

Not True. Many small ships have fast shield recharge rates. I destroyed a the Dreadnaught in a Azdara. I never learned it, but the Monty Python also helps as long as you dodge secondary weapons.

Um isn't that carbon-based lifeform vs. AI?

Is it just me, or did Homer say "I hope I didn't brain my damage." ?
Frankly, I think the ship is important. Each player will use a different ship in a different way. For example, most people will run from most big ships when they are flying a Shuttle. However, get them in a UE Cruiser and they will fight to the bitter end. However, the pilot's skills are important also. Those of you who have tried (and maybe even succeeded) to take out the Dreadnaught in less than optimal ships are relying on their own skills more than their ships. Frankly, I wish Ambrosia would make a Multiplayer EV/EVO. Maybe even mix them. Have an arena available for pilots to test their skills against other pilots. If Ambrosia did this, I'm sure that it would be their most popular game ever.
I, for one, would pay almost anything to play it.

Mostly the ship?!?!?! How the hell do people beat Cruisers, Dreadnoughts, and other ships in shuttles then?! It's not the base ship anyway, it's the person playing.
I may have gone a bit over in saying "The Pilot", but it's the PERSON playing that makes the difference. The PERSON chooses the upgrades, the ship, and they each have their own piloting style.
So in the end, it's the PERSON playing that matters.

Heh, did anyone take out a Voinian Frigate with needles here? It takes a very loooooong time :-). I didn't beat the Dreadnought myself, but I accepted a mission on Outpost Blah (don't remember the name.) and let them beat the dreadnought. Unfortunatly, the fleet was destroted before they could kill it and I had to finish it with an Arada (without Monty Phyton, with Phase cannons)
That was difficult. Now I have a nice UE Cruiser, but it's a little slow for my taste.

Why use missiles or needles for? I could take out a Voinian Frigate with a scoutship and phase cannons. Just wait for them to waste the rockets and circle around them. The nuetron blasts are so damn slow and the rockets are very easy to dodge.
As for the ship I use... I got a UE Cruiser with 2 nuetron turrets, 3 phase cannons, 2 fuel scoops, a zidagar ECM, an ECM system, a needle jammer, a layer of bronev armor, a UE fighter bay w/ 5 fighters, a nebula penetrating device, 3 SAD launchers, and 30 SAD modules, a plasma siphon, and 2 shield enhancers. I still prefer to use fast ships. More skill is required to defeat your opponents that way. I also have 6 crescent warship escorts, all captured. I get 15000 credits per day from tribute.
Anyone know a good expansion plug-in? I explored the nebulas and I got a message saying that I wonder what secrets lie in these nebula (something like that). Is there something else I'm supposed to be looking for?

A plug called F-25 by Bombcat if you want to continue that thread (and many, many more, it's a goodie). Can't remember where you can get it at the moment, but someone's sure to know. If noone (me included) gets back to you, put out a request in a new thread. F-25's location should be well known.
I had a ship better than all of yours put together--I had captured the Voinian Dreadnought but not knowing it was the dreadnought i had boarded (there was a V. Heavy fighter next to it), i actually captured it, but i hit Use as escort. Than i got killed getting our of the system by some retarded Voinian cruiser.
Oops. Still, the dreadnought was cool as HELL for the 3.975 seconds that i had it.

Anybody notice how this never really happened on the old boards, or the Unofficial board, etc, etc.
Yea, we used to get mad at each other for not "going easy on the newbies"
--to newbie: The V. Dreadnought sucks because you can't refill the Salvo Rockets or Voinian Interceptors. You are really stuck with a slow piece of crap after a while. I suppose its only use would be in the crescent, sitting there, having no fun....
I am sure we are all impressed with your l33t skillz at EVO. Not like any of us have ever captured the Dreadnought before, or had a whole fleet of them (legally) for that matter....
------------------ RIP THE SYSTEM!
I have been playong on a mac at school, and I got I captured a Igzarda or whatever you call those big long yellow and orange ships, with my WUSSY ARADA. Two fleets started attacking this thing and I stood around waiting and when it was disabled I flew in before it was destroyed and stole the credits and ACTUALLY CAPTURED IT. I only had a %6 chance and it worked so now even the dreadnaught only lastedabout 20 seconds under my two shield enhancers and 10 phase turrets(I think).
------------------ Otaku Forever!!! Vykk
Vykk you kicked ass!
i did a few missions, earn't money and bought a Igazra! it rules i can beat pretty much anything!
except one thing, you suck cause your lying, you can't have ten phase cannons on a Igazra cause the limit is five, and for anything to capture a igazra its only a 1% chance to capture it, so i'm figuring your just bullcraping or you cheated!
'not a good idea to lie cause someone, someone will work it out' - dude5432
Granted, an Igazra can only have a maximum of five turrets or guns of any sort. The capture percentage is considerably higher than 1% on a good many ships however because an Igazra does not have much crew. A UE Cruiser for instance (having a crew of slightly more than 600) would have well over a 50% chance of capture an Igazra with less than 1/8 the crew.
Probably closer to 75% though.
I have a cresent warship with SO MANY GUNS ON IT (I acedently killed the dreadnought when i tried to capture it:mad and i dont use cheats and i had 100 million before hecter stole it and I own all the pirate stations and the planet izarda and I took over all vonion space because i was bored AND I RULE AS A PILET
I still haven't figured out why someone would choose a UE cruiser over an igzara. Apart from the fact they look funny and are slow they also have less shields. I guess if you are into using fighters they are cool. Anyways someone mind telling me why they like the cruiser?

Thimoty wrote: ** Now I have a nice UE Cruiser, but it's a little slow for my taste.
If its slow then go to the agradusialasanas or what ever (they are on the galactic east of the galaxy, jezz i forget their home planet (I think there is 3 planets in home system) and on one of the planets in the home system you can buy a thrust upgrade it makes a ship go alot faster I use it on my Voinian Carrier/Cruiser (i have a very bad memory) and it is much faster than original i can fly circles around all those other slow ships (although those aradas and stuff are very fast i cant outrun them, my fleet is made up with at least 3 of them to do stuff fast) and yes i am Voinian and I dont really dilike them but i have already completed the UE missions and got bored of them in search of something different. I have The Carrier with the thrust upgrade sheild enhancements and bronev and dorospectic armour ecetra with hunter missiles and some other stuff and cant forget some nutron turrets oh and a afterburner makes go real fast can almost keep up with aradas with extra fuel tanks of course. And this ship is junk compared to my first ones. but those people are right the piolot matters alot. Also those aradas are fast and stuff and the sheild recharge is good but (of corse this is the computer which isnt smart) if im up against one of those crecents i just let them sit there and pound on me and if by chance my esquarts dont get them by then and my sheilds go down it would take them hours to take down my armor. Why let them pound on me cause I have given up fighting it got tireing and unless im in a dangeous mood i dont bother just go where I'm going. Always remember though all us 'hot shots' that we are playing a AI not another human being playing against other intelegent beings could shut most of us up in an instant.
Also, when playing Voinians you have to fight 3 (give or take about 1) of the Emelphia dreadnaughts at once which is very fun
aint editing great?

An Igazra with an Azdgari fighter bay is pretty leet. Heck, you can put damn near every purchasable bay on one. So an Igazra is great for anyone who likes fighters to.
