I'm looking for a good (and preferably free, or at least cheap) mac emulator so I can play EVO on my PC (no responses based on that please).

Um, I don't know about emulators for PCs. The only emulators I know of are programs like "Virtual PC" that turn your Mac into a PC...I don't know about programs that work the other way around, though.
Visit my EVO website! (url="http://"http://artworks.tmgmedia.net")http://artworks.tmgmedia.net(/url)

Why would you need to know

I believe he meant you're a mac user so why would you need to know how to emulate mac on PC :).
About the mac emulator - I used Executor which seems to be pretty common around these parts... go to (url="http://"http://www.ardi.com")www.ardi.com(/url) and you can download it for 30 day trial, just like EVO... and it has details on buying it each time you load it up. For playing EVO you won't have sound - and press alt-shift 5 within Executor to make sure screen update is on animation otherwise it won't work too well :). Gameplay otherwise is fine, except you can't capture a ship and use it as your own, and every so often it will say unexpected application error for no apparent reason, but that's bearable because, well, it's EVO :)!

Mart is right------Maybe EVN will be better translation, I don't know. But I think its great that PC fans are looking to play Mac products. Seems to be always the other way around. If you wait a while, maybe that number willl increase, and you can get a petition or something go and ask Ambrosia to port some stuff to the PC.
I do agree that there are no mac emulators, but i think that could change. I am guessing OSx may be an easy system to emulate (Maybe not fast or anything) but since i don't know much, I could very well be wrong. If anyone is going to make an emulation product, it will be Apple, because they know the stuff and may want to make it.
Anyways, Pc guy, I greet you in Peace (since I'm new and all).
About executor, theres one thing thats probably common knowlage about emulators but it wasn't listed on the site. And scince I've never used an emulator before, I don't really know. Will the executor emulator negativly effect my PC?

Most emulators will effect your computer somehow, the question is how much. Like on my Mac, when I turn it over to a PC so I can do my schoolwork, the iMac will crash if I try using the CD ROM, or starting up any other program while Virtual PC is running. However, I don't know for sure how much this will effect a PC machine...
But can all the effects of the emulator be turned on and off when you want to use EVO and when you don't?
Executor didn't seem to 'negatively affect' my PC in any way :). Although it obviously put something somewhere to tell it that the 30 days had expired, as I can't run it after downloading it again :frown:. The only annoying thing was that each time I loaded it it decided to check for a floppy disc, and gave that awful sound for about 5 seconds - I couldn't see how to get around that, but big deal... I also downloaded SoftMac 2000 demo but it requires a mac system and the ones that you can download didn't seem to work for me :frown:.
About the number playing mac on PC, I find it really good and a little surprising, but I'd say it has a lot to do with, like my situation, with macs being so much more expensive :frown:.. but I guess you pay for what you get eh :)? But personally it's not just EV/O that I need a mac for, but stuff like marathon, warlords 2 and of course, the other Ambrosia games that I played on our old LCIII. I feel I might need to get a mac laptop at some stage - maybe one of these nice titanium cased ones with cd writer - hmmm :).
As long as no one on this board perfers macs and AOL, I can bear it. LoL. Thanks MartiNZ.
I just looked at the price list, and $65 as the cheapest price is just ridiculous! If somebody has this CD, how much to buy it off you?
(forgot to put this in:) and if nobody has it, is there a cheaper (and still preferably free) product with the same effect?
ok, I've changed my search. I've found a freeware emulator, but I need to know what a ROM image file is and where to find one.
Actually, the system itself has little to do with the speed of the emulator. It is the coding of the program that translates the code... 'emulates'. A cheap POS program will run like crap, but a program like VirtualPC on Mac OS that has alot of demand and has been worked on for a long time runs quite well.
If you are going to emulate MHz is important and RAM is VERY important. I wouldn't emulate with less than 64. It also depends on what you are emulating. For example, Windows95 emulates very quickly. However, a system with a bigger core and more features like Win2000 or WinME will run much slower. So try and go with a smaller Mac System... 7.5.5 or 7.6..etc. Also reducing the number of programs and features from your system is important.
For example, I run a processor-native emulator for Linux called Mac-on-Linux. It runs slower if I have a graphical interface, but log out and run MOL from the console and it runs great. Being native to PPC it runs almost as fast it would normally.

Uh, jsut asking, but HOW exactly do you get EVO to work on the emulator? I'v tried everything! When I try to open it, it's a text file.
A probelm is that the only reason you woud want a mac emulator would be to run games like AMbrosias, and there arn't that many compinies like ambrosiasw. Ambrosia should port the games, that is the solutions. maybe they wouldn't make their money abck, but they need to try. A good amount of PC users like EV adn EVO, so i think that E3 might make its money back on a pc version, deppending on how it ports. Of course, the mac and pc are totalyy different, and since i know nothing about programing, who am i to say.
OK, could somebody do me a favor? I need a new ROM image file and have a program that will make it. Just activate it and it creates a new ROM images file. Thing is, it needs to be activated on a mac, and I'm away from macs for a week. Could I send this program to somebody and then have that person send the ROM image file back. I'll owe you big if you do this.
Thanks.
Sure. Ill help out
