Questions about shield enhancers

My question is "Do shield enhancers modify how long it takes to recharge your shields in full?" I do not see a modval for it so I am assuming that it does not. An example would be if you had a ship with 20 in shields (shipyard units). Then you got a 4 shield enhancers so your total shields are 40. Does it now take you any longer to recharge your shields from 0% to 100%? If the answer is no then your shield recharge rate has just doubled. I was wondering if someone could check this out because I am away from my Mac. A second question is "Is you armor recharge the same as your shield recharge?"

Why are there no maroon ships?

Hmm...I can't answer this question. I know for sure that shield enhancers and shield generators certainly work, but I don't know how fast they recharge / max out your shields. I'm sure someone who has viewed these outfits in RezEdit could tell you...

I don't know about the first, but I'm quite sure armor recharges faster.

If you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. If you don't give a man a fish, you'll have something for dinner.

Shield enhancers, the 5-ton things that add 5 points of shields (shipyard scale) to your ship do nothing else. If you've now got 40 shields instead of 20, it'll take twice as long to get from 0% shields (armour undamaged) to 100% shields.

Thus, these shield outfits help a little, but unless you have the patience of a saint, you'll probably find yourself heading back into combat by the time your shields claw their way back up to 50%, out of sheer boredom. This, of course, means that you are carrying 20 tons of dead weight -- until the next time you land.

I sometimes crank the game speed up to 450% and just stay away from hostiles while my shields build back up, then slow the game down and go back into the fight.

Newbies: Note that even an uninhabited ball of rock will give you the chance to make ship and shield repairs. If you can stand the delay, land the ship and take off again.

I believe the actual speed is the same, but you generally have less armor, meaning it repairs faster.

Yep, that's right. You ever tried to recharge a voinian cruiser? 🆒

Sorry, VoinianAmbassador, but I've got to jump in here and correct something. The shield recharge rate listed in the ship resource is in "number of frames to recharge 1% of shields." So, Jubee had it right. If you are flying an Arada, for example, it will take 100 frames to recharge 1%, or about 3.3 seconds. So it will fully recharge in about 333.3 seconds (about 6 minutes & 33 seconds) regardless of whether the Arada has the stock 50 shielding (yardunits) or has been modified to 70. So your ship will recharge an individual unit of shielding faster if you have put on extra shields. You can test this by tracking the amount of time it takes you to recharge your shields fully before and after adding some enhancers. But it's only when you add the Azdgari generators that the recharge field of the ship resource is affected, so that's the only way to drop your total recharge time in addition to the time for individual units of shielding.

As for armor, as best as I have been able to figure out, it seems to regen in the same number of frames per unit as the shields. So the game figures from your frames/% what your frames/unit are and applies that to the armor. This seems to be supported because the game clearly tracks individual units of shielding and armor rather than just percentages. In most cases, it takes less time to regen armor because there are so fewer units of armor.

I'm only about 90% positive about the armor stuff I've written here, but I know the shielding info is right (it's in the EVO Bible).

And how many frames will it take for you to become more positive on this?

Heh, heh. My apologies if my tech talk got annoying.

Oh, and since you ask, I'll double check the armor stuff tonight. So I estimate it will be about 432,000 frames before my positivity rating reaches 100%. Yeah, I recharge slower than a Voinian Cruiser. 😉
