That's kinda neat. I think it is prolly a coincidence though, not like the person who named it loves EVO.

Some of the names in EV/O are taken from somewhere. Not all are made up.Centauri is a real system.

So is Barnard, and a couple other ones. (My example is from original EV)
Yes, that's probably true.
But if we ever find out that they've named a real star named Voina, then we'll have something...

In EV the system Arrakis and the planet Dune are from the book series DUNE.

EV is far more astronomically correct than EVO. EVO has very very few things named after actual stars.

I agree.
PS: Joozlman5-I made you a mod on my boards You seemed like the right type of person.
Yeah, EV has hella places named after real stars. Most of them are, I think. EVO has barely any.
------------------ This is all soooo unimportant...
d00dz, you can actually see Mira yourself, I recall doing some star gazing about a year ago and remember that the star I was looking at (Mira, hard to see), was the same as in EVO.
EVO is pathetically unrealistic, especially in how the galaxy is laid out.

BTW: What is funny is that the planet that orbits Mira in EV is a livable planet! It would fry and freeze constantly if it did exist there. As I recall, the description there has you "outside". Ouch.
What does BTW mean?
Anyway...
One main difference between the EV systems and EVO systems is this: EV systems actually exist - EVO systems usually don't. Most of the system names in EV were actually gotten from astronomy stuff, and the names for EVO were just made up.
Oh, I almost forgot; cool thing with the star!

Well that's bound to happen, considering they're mapping all the stars in a 2D map. But I don't think it really matters as much for EVO as it did for EV, as EV was more of a 'humans alone' sort of thing, and seemed to be going for a more plausible situation. EVO is more far-fetched.

Actually, I've heard that the galaxy is flat. I'm not sure how true it is, though.

The galaxy is flat, but it is also thick up and down as well, just not nearly as much. Also, our galaxy is not the only type of galaxy. A few others, I think, are differently shaped and are much more 3D.
here is an image of a galaxy believed to be similar to our own (we can't see ours from the outside, so other methods are required to determine its shape): (url="http://"http://seds.lpl.arizona.edu/messier/Jpg/m83.jpg")http://seds.lpl.ariz...ier/Jpg/m83.jpg(/url)
the quest for accuracy in EV/EVO is somewhat chimerical--our galaxy is about 100,000 light years across, 3000 light years thick in our neighborhood, and it contains over a hundred billion stars. nevertheless, i've put together a small database of nearby sunlike stars that i can email to anyone who's interested.

Well, a lot of things in the Universe are somewhat flat. Out galaxy is MOSTLY flatlike..The only way I could desribe a 3D model of our galaxy is like taking our Earth and pulling it in all directions at the equator until the Earth is 2 or 3 times wider. Even our solar system is "flat". If the planets rotated about the Sun on an X-Y plane, then there is very little change in movement on the z-axis.
