I decided it was time to see what all the fuss is about, so I downloaded Magma v2.0.1, and dropped it in my plugins folder. Launched the game, and... nothing new. Sounds and graphics exactly the same as usual.
I've tried removing all other plugs, and bumping the memory allocation for EV:O up to a ludicrous level... still no change. Has anyone else experienced this problem? The plugin and its documentation expanded perfectly, as far as I can tell (••EVO MAGMA v2.0.1, Kind = EV Override document), but the game just isn't seeing it. Why might that be?
Your suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you sure you downloaded the full version of MAGMA and not just the updater? If the download was about 8k or something, that's the updater. Other that than, I have no clue what's wrong... maybe try reinstalling EVO? Maybe you have multiple plug in folders???? Mighty weird, out of 6000+ people, you're the first (I've heard from) with this problem... -david-

This happened to me too. In the end I just paasted all the resources into Magma 1.0

Thanks for your replies, gentlemen.
Meowx - the plugin I got is 9.2 megs. Think that's the full, basic Magma. Later I might have added the lighter ship grpahics plug, but I haven't included it yet.
CelticStarbase - a good idea, but if it were really necessary to do this, I think other people would have mentioned it before. shrug
I'll return to my vanilla copy of EV:O, then... :frown:
try starting a new pilot file
------------------
Yes, that's the correct one - that's very odd. I would just try a complete re-installation of EVO v1.0.2. The pilot file shouldn't mean anything, but you can try that too... if you really want to. Is ANYTHING new? You should notice right away - there's a new title screen and new music. Sorry for the trouble! -david-
Zhouj - I did try starting a new pilot file. No better.
Meowx - Nothing is new. Not the title screen, music, stellars, outfits or sprites. Weird, huh? I'll go for that full reinstall... don't see why it should make a difference, but it's worth a try. I'll post again when I have more news. Thanks!
After a succession of problems with the larger plugs such as Frozen Heart, F-25 and ROTVII, I finally figured out what was wrong.
I've been using the same version of Stuffit Expander for years, and somewhere along the line, Stuffit has changed. If you unpack a .hqx or .sit with a very old version of Stuffit Expander, the file looks okay (and checks out okay) but it doesn't work 100% as intended.
If you're having problems with a plug that crashes EV:O whenever you start with it in, try getting an up-to-date version of Stuffit Expander from Aladdin Systems, and unpack anew.
Now I'm able to enjoy all kinds of new material that wasn't working for me before. Full marks to MeowX and co. for all their work.

Welcome to the world of MAGMA, eh?
------------------ Hi! I'm Alien the Hinwar and I'm a stuiped jerk! I'm big, mad, strong, and Hinwar! I yell 'LONG LIVE THE UE!', but I smash vikimadegie lovers every chance I get! Cause I'm Alien the Hinwar and I'm a stuiped jerk! I'm always making the mods mad doing something or another, but I'll never learn! I'll never turn! Look at my karma!
Actually, I removed it from my plugins folder the same night. There's obviously a lot of hard work gone into that plug, but I prefered original EV:O's ship graphics. They look cleaner, somehow... and they point in the right direction. With Magma I was wasting all my rockets unless I fired them at close range or when pointing in one of the cardinal directions. To hell with that. If there were some kind of 'kit of parts' version with Magma split into several separate plugs, I'd use the combat sounds one though.
