I think I am quite close to the end of the game now (famous last words), I have the shields completed and am on my way back to the northern part of the map.
The areas around the South Coast and the Cyklops Coast are the only ones I haven't explored entirely. Is there a point? Are there fun tidbits hidden that will make up for the fact that I'll die over and over again?
Is there a way to kill those big dudes who whack you with a single hit?

------------------
The big dudes that kill you with 1 whack are the sea giants. There really isn't anything vital to the completion of the game down there. However many people find it sadistically pleasant to go on a campaign of getting gold and buying stat enhancing potions in order to go down to the south and kill them. If you decide to do this with your character, just be sure to save your game before entering the last gate that leads to the final battle. Once you've defeated the last guy standing in your way you will be unable to "continue" your adventures elsewhere. I recommend going and winning the game(but as I said saving the game before you do), and then if you feel interested, restart that earlier game to do the stat-raising boogie and go kill some sea giants.
