Cheating or Not Cheating?

Right now I am in the process of trying to dominate the galaxy. At this moment, I have dominated all of Zidagar space, almost all of Azdgari space, and all but the Igadzra system in Igadzra space. I've also dominated many other systems but I won't go there. Anyway, to dominate Council Station without having to destroy all those CWs, I simply got myself a bunch of escorts through the process of buying ships, capturing ships, etc. In all, I made it so that only 1 ship could appear in a system at a time. Then, I went to Council Station, and dominated tribute. After I destroyed the one CW that it sent out, I did it again and again. Finally, after destroying four or five CWs, I dominated Council Station. I don't know why it worked though.

Now, is this cheating? I don't like cheating, so if it is, I don't want to use this proceedure in dominating the Igadzra system. If it isn't cheating, then I will go ahead and try to dominate Igadzra. What is your opinion?

I'm confused, because it isn't exactly cheating, but it may be called cheating because you are using EVO's limits to your advantage. So, is it cheating? Or is it not cheating?

Comments?

I think that what you described is a bug in the game or something like that. It might even be a cheat they out in, but I'm not sure. However, what matters is that you did not know it was there, so you were not intentionally cheating, if you were cheating at all. If you continue to do this, knowing of your unfair advantage, that would be cheating.

Whether or not it's cheating depends on who you talk to. I eschew escorts so I've only used that method as a trial effort to see if it worked. I just has to do with the number of ships that EVO can allow to appear in a system at one time. You can do the same thing in EV as well.

Whether or not it's cheating is up to you.

Back when I used to play MUD games, exploiting a bug or limitation of the game was considered a form of cheating. You were supposed to report any loophole that you found, and cease using it. People who used game limitations to get rich or powerful were fined. In some extreme cases unrepentant players had their characters files altered or deleted.

Of course, since EV:O isn't a multiplayer game you aren't really spoiling anything for the rest of us when you choose to exploit a game limitation. So... is it cheating? I would say no, but I still wouldn't go around using the same trick all over the galaxy. There's no 'legal' alternative if your heart is set on capturing Council Station... but you're not supposed to be able to do that anyway.

I got this .sig file at insanely_great.com - don't even think about taunting me!

Maybe I'll just do this special method for Voinia and no where else, except for maybe Igadzra...

Wow, it's a bug...! No, it's a game-feature. Start the discussion here? (Since the rules are made up by our great creator, AmbrosiaSW, HE knows everything. And HE surely knows about the problem.)
Ernestly, why does this limitation exist? I've read about it in many posts, but never had enough escorts to experience it. (Can't look the topic(s) up, since my beloved search-feature is gone.)
As long as this "loophole" is official, reported, and nothing done about it, it's not cheating. You could start the same argument on saying "monty python" is cheating (well, some really old EV-veterans probably would, though in EV:O it's much more a "cheat" than in original EV).
And there are limitations in every game. The enemies are so predictable, you can take out a CW with an UE-Transporter (m.p.-style, of course), there's no real A.I., and so on; but so what? It's the game. As long as you're not cheating (like using god-mode in Marathon or a plug in EV:O) in the way that you're adding features not originally in the game, it is just the game. Beat them the way you can. (No big reward for taking out Council Station, is there?) (btw., there are plugs and plugs: e.g. FH and FF are no cheats, they are different games.)

No, the Council are just really big cheapstakes. I want my credits worth! 😉

Hmmm, I say that's a matter of opinion Carno, like everyone else here has pointed out!

I love escorts, so I say why not?

There's my oddly bent $.02....
