Sorry for the long delay of posting anything, I've been busy (hiking, caving, some games of Marathon, you know). It looks like people are planning out their governments, so I may as well plan out mine. Remember, if anyone doesn't like this or needs it to be changed you're welcome to ask, this is all still pretty sketchy on my part.

Gah, I should have changed my password...its some random password, and by browser lost all its cookies...I can't remember it and I can't have it emailed to me since the email entered there is fake. Well, here is my new account. My email confirms its me.

They will be a faction of psyco-cultist humans. Their government will be called the Evadians (I wonder where I got that name from... :rolleyes: ). They will be isolationists and scientists, and well, here is some background, which the plot will continue:

The Evadians were originally a cult of semi-athiests. They believed not that some devine entity had created the human race, but some hyper-advanced intelligance elsewhere in the galaxy had seaded Earth with its first life forms, hoping to create another intelligance (of course, we ALL know that the chances of alien life in the universe is 99.999(alot more 9s)%. The chance of INTELLIGANT alien life is nearly nonexistant, or atleast alien life close enough to us to get to us before we're extinct). They were all strong supporters of the now defunct (I am talking in the future here) SETI program, but some of the richer bigshots in the cult kept some listening telescopes (satallite dishes) going. Believe it or not, they started picking up radio-band (uh, plain old radio) messages. Atleast, they THOUGHT they were messages. It was a repeating beat of thumps. They were looking for anything to be an alien signal. They pinpointed the source, which seemed to be a star a few hundred lightyears away. When cryogenics was first getting practical in 2053, the lot of them (about 100,000) managed to raid a cargo transport carrying these chambers to the moon, and turned the cargo transport into a tramp colony ship. I couple more raids, and they had all the supplies they needed. Being the psyho culstists they were, they set the nav computer for the system, and shot torward the star in the realm of hyperspace, in cryogenic sleep.
Back then, hyperspace engines were fairly premitive. No instintanious jumps, just one long trip. Even with hyper drive, it would take them about 57 years to get to this star system. When they arrived in the system, there was actually a habitable planet (a bit suspicious methinks). They colonized, and gazed up at their bizarre sun waiting for some sort of sign. Using the radio reciever on the transport, they listened for the star for a sound, anything it all. They got nothing. Absolutely nothing. Which was something. The star emitted no sound at all, which isn't natural. A few more days stay, and finally they got their sign- A flash of light heading from the star, impacted on their planet, and they knew. They just plain new. Everyone on the colony had thoughts of some leader or commander of somesort of some race, whose name was Eradia (well, thats what it sounded like). They didn't know what to do, other then to live. Afer a another week or so, nature kicked in and people started reproducing. Now its 2410, 300 years later. The humans have named their star Evadia after this leader, and their culture the Evadians. After just one generation of humans, the entire religion died. They new borns didn't 'know.' They were denied access to any of the Earth-based religions, which was a sure way to get them to find out anyway. No more was the Eradian religion. The name of their race remained the same, the new generation honored their elders to that extint, and no more. That still didn't explain the star, why it had no sound. There was good deal of other things wrong with this indigo star. It emitted photons, and several new types of radation, the effects yet unknown. There were no detectable heat waves coming from it. Their world had heat, the atmosphere kept alot of it in, but some got out...but there was no heat coming in. The heat was just there. They could not find any source, anywhere. Their world wasn't cooling, it remained the way it had always been. Their sun appears to be slightly displaced in the universe. Any science vessel, or ANYTHING for that matter that gets a certain distance is completely obliterated. The current popular theory for this is the star is slightly displaced in our space and time, and its gravity makes a displacement field HERE. Anything that is from this realm is displaced into the star's realm, and is destroyed. Any matter from our realm cannot exist in the star's realm for more than an vegasecond (vega is 10 to the -75th power I believe). Other odd things happen close to the star. The star has always been a driving force for the Evadians. They strive to find out its secrets, and thus are devoted to science. They now hold a large amount of worlds, and alot of resources, all devoted to finding out about the star. They have devoted little to weapons, but their ships have good defense. The player, if he chooses, will help answer many of the questions as the yet-to-be-planned plot unrevals.

You've put a lot of effort into this, apparently. A few points of necessary criticism, however:

- We already have a scientific-oriented anti-religious government, the Pavonians.
- Stars emit no sound. Acoustic waves don't propagate through empty space.

- A 10^75th of a second would be many, many orders of magnitudes smaller than Planck's time quantum, which is the shortest possible time interval in quantum physics. Thus, it makes no sense.
- I'm at a loss to comprehend (or to justify scientifically) the "displacement field" and the "several new types of radiation" you're talking of...

Sorry if I seem unfriendly, but as a physics student who's facing 3 months of intense labor (learning for the 1st pre-diploma in September), I'm kinda allergic to such "Lois & Clark" or "SeaQuest" physics. 😛

Apart from that, the government trying desperately to investigate a mystical object transcending scientific explanations is definitely a good idea; feasible, thrilling and, for once, non-violent. 😉

Well I just came up with another idea at the swimming pool. This took me only 1 minute though. Again it still has some holes but I will fill them in. I can't wait to show you my ship skethes as well as the Colorian ship sketches. Okay

Long ago on a planet known as Jin, was discovered. It was a completely habitable place except for one minor detail. There was only one piece of land about 2 feet in length and width. The rest was just water. Suprisingly, all planets in and around that system were somewhat the same way. There is also reports of unidentified ships or creatures (no one is sure if it is a living creature or not) that look somewhat like squids. There is also reports of lights and under the waters of these mysterious planets. These reports all lead to what some believe is a race called the Jinquoe (pronounced Jin as in "gin and tonic" and so as in "so what". It is pronounced like Jinso but is spelled Jinquoe).

The Jinquoe:
The Jinquoe are an amphibian type race that lives just about always in the water. They have gills and fins but they can also be out of the water for more than one week. However, they prefer to be in water most of the time. They have colonized other worlds by the use of there space craft. However, as soon as they get to the new planet, which is usually dry and flat, they use a technique of bringing all water from the water table to the surface of the planet and then adding water from other worlds as well. This makes the world habitable to them. That is why all planets around the Jin system are almost completly covered by water. They build huge underwater cities and are highly advanced. They are very mysterious and make almost no contact with any other species or gov. They rarely travel but instead mine valuable ores, fossil fuels, metals, and other valuable items. They are kind of closed off to the rest of the universe unless you would like to trade with them. They are very honorable and compassionate towards nature.

Jinquoe ships:
Oh I can't wait to show you the designs for these ships. They are soooooooooo sweet. They mostly look like huge squid or fish. They are kind of slow do to the fact that they are full of water to keep themselves alive. However, they have heavy hitting torpedos that will kick the living $#!+ out of you. They are very short range but are extremly powerful. They rely alot on shields and some on armor. They are pretty tough to defeat unless you have long range weapons. All of the Jinquoe's weaponry are short range but are still extremly powerful. They weigh alot as well. They are normally 40-20 tons of space. They all have a well balanced share of space and cargo. All the ships are pretty big. Their smallest ship is abot the size of a UE Destroyer. However, they only have 3 ships.

Landing:
Landing on a Jinquoe world will be unique I think. When you land their will only be a small strip of land to land on. There will only be a small outfiting shop (if they like you that is) where all they have is a small sub (It can just be an escape pod with a different color). Once you purchase the sub, you go under water instantly. Here is where you really get stuff. There is a bar, mission comp, shipyard, outfitting shop, and commidities. As soon as you sell the sub though, you will resurface and you can leave. Cool huh?

Interactions:
These places are a gold mine for traders (literally). You can buy precious commodities like gold, oil, metal, and so forth for dirt cheap. Plus you can sell salt water anywhere for a lot of money. Of course lots of traders, lots of renegades. Humans can have a mission string where they can get the underwater technologies so Earth can have underwater colonies as well as land colonies (which would keep them more guarded from enemy attack). Explorers can finally reveal the universe to the Jinquoe (who just think that any traders are just passer byers). Even the Colorians can ask for some commodities from them to stableize their gov.

Dave, I like you idea for a government: the history etc. Like Cinga, I think that the science could be simplified a little. Although I have no problem with scientifically inspired nonsense, I'd recommend you don't reinvent more than one scientific law at a time. If your sun appears give off the wrong electromagnetic spectrum for its class, or something, that would probably be enough mystery to justify something momentous going on. You should consult with Stormbringer, who also is planning some sort of mystically inspired plot.

I don't know how you'd make an invisible barrier to your space in EVO and I'm not sure you'd want to. Your government shouldn't be completely isolated, since we're trying to make an integrated galaxy. Maybe if your government were partially isolated? Defended by heavy metior showers in like those in FH, or something?

Dangit! I have made 2 sweet @$$ govs and only one person has responded to them. He just said that my Colorians idea was cool and how it reminded him of the Azdagari (by the way, thanks :D). I'm trying to ask you if I can help you make some govs and send you some sketches on my ideas. So far no one has said anything. I'm not upset (though it may sound like it) I just want to know if I can participate even a little. As I mentioned earlier, I can't help you with graphics but I can send you sketches that, if you can, you can turn into graphics. Just a simple reponse and an e-mail is all I am asking for.

By the way, I got this idea from playing Colony Wars for Playstation. An organic planet. A planet that is living basicly. It is just a huge plant really. Lots of vegetation. It was born from the spore of a planet similiar to this one so there could be others.

Although your ideas are fine, we aren't really looking for more ideas for govts right now. We have seven or so and that fills all of the slots we had assigned so far. That doesn't mean that we don't want your help, though. If you haven't signed up with CS at his 1000 worlds site, you should probably do that. If you have, you'll have to wait a little bit for any response from him, but eventually he will start pulling the 1000 worlds project together. Anywho, by sound I just meant just about waves of anything. Whatever it is that we hear on all those Novas on PBS. About not emitting any sound: Thats one of the mysteries. As is the planet being heated by apparently nothing.

Allow me to explain the displacement field a bit better. I actually got the idea from some Star Trek: TNG episode I saw a while back when it was still on TV...I'm no ultra-trekkie so no, I don't know the episode name/number/etc.

So our favorite Klingon, Worf, is returning from a tourney or something, and he keeps shifting realities. He alerts that Spandax-wearing Brit about it, and Data scans Worf. He discovers that his quantom flux rate or something like that is different then what other matter in their reality was, so he didn't belong in their reality. Well, eventually Worf finds his way back and everyone is happy.

I was thinking, what if matter was obliterated if it was inside a universe with a different quantom flux (or whatever). Nothing violent like matter/antimatter, but something like combining 100 Amperes of energy (yeah, thats an eletric measurement, but I lack a better one for measuring pure energy) and 100 Amperes of negative energy. What do you get? Nothing. We remember that lesson on integers in pre-al, right? I was just trying to come up with some really interesting mysteries to work the player plot around...Bubbles, you said something about defining some scientific time or something? The topic is too large so I can't read what you said at the moment. The time thing can be changed (2410 or whatever). I think there are some other things wrong with it, I need to reread some of the replies...

I was just trying to come up with a time that would allow alot of population growth. Again, I am no expert at society growth (or anything?) so I don't know. My estimate is even with 300 years, to have a good number of planets with alot of people would require a culture that had absolutely no worry about sexually transmitted disease, was strongly agaisnt safe sex, and had weekly orgys. Shrug.

Ok, now I reread the posts. Come on! People invent about a dozen new scientific laws with each dësc resource describing how a weapon works.

New types of radiation = (...dammit lemme find my list of Greek Letters...) uh, we've only reached Gamma, right? Delta, Epsilon, maybe even a thrid one. They'll have rather different effects than normal radiation...I don't know what yet. If you don't like the radiation, it can be scratched.

I saw that one! I'm not a trekkie either but I remeber flipping through the channels and seeing that. By the way, I think it is still on TV (no new episodes though). A while ago, I saw it on CBS late at at night. I'm not sure if it's still on though.

I know I keep asking this but I really want your opinion on my govs (even if it won't be used (or even if it will 😕 (I'm still waiting for a reply from someone on the project to confirm that they will(wow, 3 quotations in one! ;))))). I think they are unique and cool but I want your opinion :).

OK, I've re-read your post on the Colorians... I didn't like it much the first time (it seemed somewhat vague) but now I like it, really. Even though we don't have many resource IDs to spare, your gövt might be feasible in our galaxy if you used the regular human ships and tech, with a few special items (like your needle-like missiles) created from other gövt's surplus resource IDs. Also, since the Cypiens look as though they're not going to use up many shďp, s˙st and spöb resources, you might get some IDs from them.

I like the idea of the splinter group trying to overthrow the government. Will those Rahians be a "reasonable" government as opposed to the Colorians? Will helping them out eventually lead towards a more peaceful and integer Coloria, or will it just replace one evil with another? Anyway, there's some potential there. 🙂

I feel my skills would be best put to use working with someone who has some great ideas, but insufficient detailed plug-making knowledge. Since I have just the opposite, you see. I'm glad you like it. The Rahians can go either way. They just want to overthrow the Colorian hypocrites. They can be nice and peaceful to. However you must understand that's how the Colorians started out. They got violent when they tried to expand. They tried to expand so they could get some good sources of resources. They soon became violent because others wanted those planets as well and they have been scrambling to find a good source ever since. If the Rahias take over, they will be put into the same situation and may become just as violetnt.

But maybe not. The origianal human gov may like the Rahians better and start a good trade route and better protecion from the huge plague of renegades that goes through their systems.

You decide.

That's another idea I have. Maybe there could be a renegade system in the middle of the Colorian systems. It could be a good mission string to try and help eliminate them. By the way, if the Rahians do start a war against the Colorians (which they most likely will) you can take either side. Overthrow the Colorians or contain the Rahians. There could even be a third side which is the origianal human gov. They can either help the Rahians to overthrow the Colorians and then help them become peaceful or you can help the origianal gov wipe out both of them to take back the lost colonies. Again, you decide.

I also want to add one more note. The Jinquoe are hidden and no one knows anything about them. In fact, no one knows they exist. You can't even land on the planets. They are just considered uninhabitable since they are all water. You don't know anything about them until a sighting of strange ships around those planets are sighted by some explorer group. You go in to investigate with a sub. That's how you are able to go under water for the rest of the time (see Landing in the Jinquoe explanation paragraph). I thought I made this clear but after rereading it I found out that it wasn't.

The Jinquoe idea is certainly very fascinating... however, it seems to use up quite a lot of resources... you might want to make the discovery of the Jinquoe the big mission plot, rather than doing missions within Jinquoe space after having discovered them (the idea with the sub is fantastic by itself, but it would suck if you had to buy/sell the sub many times to do missions for the Jinnies.

My suggestion: Make an outfit "deep submergence conditioning" that makes your current ship seaworthy... when you purchase it, you flip a VisBit that replaces all planets in Jinquoe space with inhabited ones (since now you can visit their underwater cities)... just make sure that the planet where you actually buy the conditioning doesn't change its visibility, as that would f*ck up EVO. Maybe the player should buy it on a space station above a water planet? The mission arc would be to find the Jinquoe, to make first contact, and to investigate out their worlds for scientific purposes.

Nice idea. I like that one better than the Colorians (which are still kinda vague).

PS: I nearly forgot my compulsory criticism... 😉 Only a small point. As a hobby langmaker, I find it difficult to cope with the spelling of your race name. I see no reason why the phonemic string /'djinsou/ should represented with "Jinquoe" in latin transliteration... the q seems a weird choice for /s/, and the u is completely superfluous. Apart from that, 95% of all players are going to mispronounce the name anyway. :frown: I'd suggest something like "Jinso".
