Now, the Krait has never been regarded as a top quality ship. But today I lost any semblance of respect I may have had for it. I was flying in shuttle, no upgrades except a fuel tank, no extra weapons, and no fuel tank. Yet I was able to, on two occasions, defeat hostile Kraits simply by stopping, holding autopilot and fire. Once with a Helian firing Needles at me. What kind of nutcase would fly something so weak? You're much more likely to die than to make a profit. I'd sooned fly an Emalghia fighter.

You made one tiny mistake, Kraits are REALLY called "Flying Death Pods with no meaning at all".
Aside from that little joke, I agree with you completely. Kraits stink. Plain and simple. It has no cargo, limited speed, pathetic fuel, and miniscule sheilds. I don't even see the point of letting you buy the thing.

In my opinion the point is to make the game REALLY challenging. Imagine defeating the Dreadnought or doing the final Igazra mission in a Krait, virtually impossible unless you can forego food, water, and human contact for weeks on end.
I one tried to defeat the Dreadnought in a Krait. After the first dozen tries I gave up.

(url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/dsghosh/evosite/shipyard1.html#krait")Kraits(/url) are pitiful. Just look at the description I wrote for my web site (link above) to find out exactly what I think of them. Only time they could ever kill me is if I was piloting a (url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/dsghosh/evosite/shipyard1.html#freighter")human freighter(/url) or something with no upgrades.

If you read the description for all of the Renegade vessels it will tell you that they are old and not very powerful. But in the end they sereve their purpose in keeping the UE army away. I mean they can be kinda usefull, all fighters are usefull when pited against a large Warship which is attacking you. They help to keep it's shields down so you can try and finish it off. Anyway the Krait does stink; but it is the best the stupid Renegades got.

Now, think of what would happen if you outfitted a Krait with 4 Neutron cannons? That would certainly make it better, but still not very good. But better yet, how about outfitting ALL Renegade vessels with Voinian technology? Then the Renegades would have no problem blasting away the UE Navy. I was thinking about this, and so I decided to make a plug about it. Right now I'm still working on it, but it will eventually be published. It's called "The Renegade Threat" and it's purpose is to make the Renegades much more attractive to Renegade-loving pilots who just can't stand the weakness of most Renegade vessels.

you could't outfitted a Krait with Voinian technology, it doesn't have enough space, think about it a Krait with one neutron cannon.

I agree. So a krait can be defeated by an Emalgha fighter, yes. And i'd rather fly a voinion fighter into UE space, yes. But say you had a scoutship, right? And then all of a sudden two Turncoats jump into the system. Your ship gets badly damaged by needle fire. But you just manage to escape, yes? And then when your about to jump into another system, (at 2% sheilds) then all of a sudden, WHAM! The krait fighters managed to overtake you, and shave the rest of the sheilds away. Krait's are good for interdiction when your prey is badly damaged, no more, no less.

Put the ex. generator on a Krait, it is so small, your shields shoot up fast enough, that only a HUGE barrage could kill you! I think......

i don't think that would work, as the krait has so little shields. i can definitely see you dying from a barrage of hunter missles or rockets. plus, its lack of space, cargo, and fuel pretty much rule it out as a serious ship.

Not quite. The Ex. Generator would indeed make it more formidable, but that isn't saying much. The Krait has so little shields that the advantage confered by the generator only comes into play if you survive that barrage. Highly unlikely.
Besides, if you like fighters and work for the Azdgari, why waste cash on a Krait when you could get a kick-@$$ Azdara?

There are some ships that are just fighters... no solo pilot in their right mind would want one for themselves, like, say, the defender in EV. What is is useful for is what everyone has been saying: helping out. Also, though, a small pack of Kraits could easily finish off a wimpy trader, which is what the renegades do anyway.
------------------ -Gavin gdstarkiller@yahoo.co m AIM: FlyForRabbi
kraits are definitely useful for one thing: dominating alien renegade planets. the defense fleet never attacks your escorts, and kraits are faster than crescent fighters. if you have 6 kraits, chances are only a handful of defender fighters or aradas will reach you if you hang out at the system boundary. just make sure you have enough disabled ships in the system to prevent new renegades from jumping in (who will attack your escorts).
unfortunately, this trick doesn't work well against human renegade systems: turncoat explosions will destroy your kraits! i have yet to test it on voinians--it is possible that the death delay may be long enough for your kraits to get away.

That's just what I said.
Anyway, the Kraits are only dangerous in large numbers. Of course, 15 UE Fighters are more dangerous than 15 Kraits. And actually, I had a rather frustrating experience with a Krait...(see "Best EVO Experience/encounter")
