Armor??????

I actually read some of my EVO Bible the other day and it said a ship became disabled when its armor reached 1/3 left. I also thought about the fact that a player ship never becomes disabled, it just begins to self destruct. My question is that as a player do we get the full use of our armor? It seems to me that when you fight a Voinian Crusier it only has effectively 333 in armor not 500, but if you capture that Crusier do you get to enjoy the other 167 in armor. Just something I thought about and was just wondering if others had too. I think a good way to test it is to create a plug with one Voinian Crusier in the system and someone personally fight it in a nonupgraded V. Crusier. Then just compare to see it you have much armor left or if you get killed. Just don't use you fighters and kill off his before you attack.

Why are there no maroon ships?

An interesting issue. It's a little like AD&D;, where 'disposable' monsters such as orcs are described as dead as soon as their hitpoints reach zero, whereas players go unconscious, and only die at minus 10 hitpoints.

It seems, initially, that the game is favouring AI ships, because you never see your own ship get disabled. In reality, though, it's a convenience which makes the game better. It'd be dull and frustrating to be diabled and then just watch which the battle rages on among your escorts and the bad guys. The EV:O game has no provision for rescuing you from such circumstances, after all.

If you're right, and player ships explode at the same point that AI ships become disabled (I doubt this - think players have the advantage), then neither 'side' gets the use of that last fraction of their armour. So it works out about even... with the additional advantage that you get to steal their credits. They just get hit by your fragments.

Maybe it's not entirely fair, but it's clever. Good luck with the experiment, and let us know how it works out.

Eh, you, don't forget a flag have been added in EVO (to use with voinian ships particularly) in the shďp ressource that make the ship to be disabled at 10% armor instead of 33%. But what you ask is interesting, but the amount of "added" armor to our ship (I think our ship has the full armor, including the 33% or 10%) is never so much that it would influence the game.

You play AD&D;? Ever heard of WEBRPG?

Pedro, that last few % of armour can make a lot of difference. I read a post on this board once, from a guy who claimed he finished a very, very nasty fight with exactly 0% armour left! I've never managed that myself. I've had it below 5%, but after that you've either won or you're doomed, I find. Doesn't really matter unless you use strict play, I guess!

Never heard of WEBRPG, Bubaganoosh. I do my roleplaying the old-fashioned way.

Actually I was hoping someone else could experiment because I will not be able to get to the com. that has EVO for a long time. Thanks to Pedro about the 10 percent I did not know it had been changed. Personally I think the an AI V. Cruiser gets gipped 50 points in armor in a fair fight against a human controled V. Cruiser. This my hypothesis. I hope someone can prove or disprove it.

In EV and EVO, the player dies when his armor reaches zero - effectively, the player gets to continue fighting when an AI ship of the same type would already be disabled.

In EV3, the player's ship can be disabled and boarded too.

I ask you to look both ways- for the road to the atom leads through the stars, and the road to the stars leads through the atom.

Thanks Matt.

On the topic of bording, will a ship you board be able to capture you if it has too many more crew then you?

Do radioactive cats have 18 half-lives?
The Person who misspells "Voinian" knows not of the 50 gigaton nuke coming at their cranium.

What would happen if you ship was boarded?

I USE STRICT PLAY, but I was never in this kind of situation : for any situation I find myself in (mission, crossing the north/south tip, etc ) I outfit my ship far more than needed (the firt time I played EVO in strict play my shuttlecraft was almost accidentaly destroyed by a Voinian frigate 1 jump from the start; this made me careful ).

I'm always making the mods mad doing something or another, but I'll never learn! I'll never turn! Look at my karma!

I've also got an empty armor bar, and from making plugs I knew that the player gets all aromr.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet we get boarded!

Is the answer to this question 'no'?

I suppose maybe an enemy who boarded your ship would force the crew into escape pods at gunpoint, and jettison them. There are obvious reasons why you shouldn't kill the people whose ships you capture:

  • You're less likely to attract the attention of law enforcement if you don't kill your victims.

  • You're less likely to hang, if you get caught some day.

  • You're less likely to come up against desperate resistance if the victims think their lives will be spared and you just want the ship.

  • You won't lose as much sleep, and you won't go to Hell when you die.

Here endeth Piracy and Pillage 101 for the day.
