I was just glancing through the keys and noticed the hypermode key. Pushed the button, the game beeped, no apparent effect. <shrug> Can anyone enlighten me?

Ah, a semi-newbie. Hyper mode is a quick way of selecting a Hyperspace destination. You hit the Hyper mode key (Default 'H'). Normally, if you select the destination on the map, you see it on the status bar (The green bar on the right). If you use Hyper mode, it should say "No destination" (Or something to that effect). Now you hit the Hyper select key (Default '') to cycle through possible jump routes. When you get the hang of it, it's way faster than using the map.
