Everyone Please Read(and respond)

Hi everyone

I'm making a plug(Dark Destiny) and I was going to rework some dialog boxes/windows to allow for larger graphics/descriptions. The two that I'm asking about are the Spaceport Dialog and the Outfit Dialog. These, if I were to modify them as I wanted, would need the computer monitor to be set at around 600x800 resolution. I was wondering if anyone here can't run thier monitor at that resolution. For the spaceport, I was going to do full-sized landing pics from Andre Vandle's website, and for the outfit, I was going to give a standard description, a sales pitch(from the manufacteror) and spces(like the shpi specs). Please respond, escecially if you can't run your monitor at 600x800.

Well, my old 6100/60 (which was the first Power Mac) has a graphic card which can handle 600x800 okay, but only at 256 colors. So I think anyone who has a Power Mac will be able to handle it, unless they are using a relaly small or old monitor with it.

As for pre-Power Mac computers, there may be a problem there. Don't know because the only one of them I have is an old B&W; Powerbook 100.

By "full-sized landing pics," do you mean the ones that are sized for EV3? I was going to start doing that on my site, too, but have been too busy.

But, I know that Clare has a few on her site (because I help her maintain her site). Check out these:

Actually, it's a system requirment to play EV and EVO to have a 640x480 monitor. So anyone without one can't play EVO in the first place, so your question is moot. 😄

"A newt?"

One of the strengths of the EV* games is that they don't require up-to-date computer equipment. I can play perfectly well (with a slightly odd keyboard remapping) on my 5300 laptop, for example.

I think your proposed change would alienate those who use LC-series Macs (except that oddball powermac LC), I seem to recall that the monitor settings on an LCII I messed around with only went to 640 x 480 - and 640 x 400 at 'thousands of colours'. LCs ("low cost macs") proliferated in the first half of the 1990s.

Still, you'd be okay for about 95% of your potential market, I reckon. The choice is yours.

Yes.

And Jim, i can play EVO and EV at about 600x800(I don't remember the exact number), so don't tell me you can't.

Only macs equipped with the Full Page Display can achieve 600x800 resolution. It is a vertical screen setting and can't be used on standard horizontally wide displays. This display is quite rare, and i don't think you'd be able to find anybody with one. If you did happen to mean 800x600 resolution, make sure you understand it is not the same thing flipped.
