I had thought it a fluke, but now two of my saved games refuse to load. The screen will flicker black, and then return to exactly what it was before - even if another open game. If relevant, I think both final saves were underground.
Did you happen to have a plug on, like Trinity, but forgot to start trinity the next time you loaded?

No, Trinity has stayed on. The first load failure for each was immediately following death of that character.
