dead in the water--stalled missions

I've picked up the game after leaving it for a year. I started a new ship. I've done a LOT of exploring, but I've basically turned into a shuttle/currier. Where are the weirdo missions in the bars? I ran a few, here-and-there, but they've stopped appearing.
